Tryin' to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
"What's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
Hey-ey-ey
I said "Hey, a-what's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
Hey-ey-ey
I said "Hey, a-what's going on?"
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
Ooh, uh huh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
Ooh, uh huh
And I try
Oh my God, do I try
I try all the time
In this institution
And I pray
Oh my God, do I pray
I pray every single day
For revolution
And so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
Just to get it all out, what's in my head
And I, I am feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
"What's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
Hey-ey-ey
I said "Hey, what's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
Hey-ey-ey
I said "Hey, a-what's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
(Wake in the morning and step outside)
Hey-ey-ey
(Take a deep breath and I get real high)
(And I scream)
I said "Hey, a-what's going on?"
And I say, hey-ey-ey
(Wake in the morning and step outside)
Hey-ey, yeah yeah yeah
(Take a deep breath and I get real high)
(And I scream)
I said "Hey, a-what's going on?"
Ooh, ooh
Ooh
Ooh, uh huh
25 years and my life is still
Tryin' to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination, mmm
This song is in the soundtrack for the sci-fi series "Sense8" -- the perfect foil, gives the words a whole new meaning.
I absolutely love that scene to bits.
But for some reason I always think of Journey when I hear this song. Strange?
Woke is another word that Fox, DeLoser, et al. have weaponized because, in their limited view, there is something terrible in progressive thinking or in thinking about what's best for society rather than oneself.
I don't think you've thought your thoughts through quite enough - Mr. My side is the right side no matter what. Please, think harder and better. It will benefit us all.
Umm. What's wrong with "woke stuff"?

The 'song' speaks for itself!
The end.
All the "woke" stuff aside, there aren't thet many Female 'power' songs (vs say, Queen 'We Are The Champions')
I submit this as a *very* excellent Female- based "Power Ballad".
easy 8/10 from me.

I still remember where I was (driving into the office parking garage) the first time I heard this song on the radio. Sat in the car with it cranked up, not caring that it was making me late to work.
Now, that’s the spirit!

Oh c'mon. Tell us how you really feel.
hahaha your posts are occasionalIy informative and frequently make me laugh out loud
i'm with you on that. most likely one of the only songs on RP i'd rate a 1. my god that caterwauling...thank god it's over.
The lyrics aren't very good either.
What's up is right. And here's the answer. This is quite possibly one of the worst songs ever. The interminable caterwauling in this "song" is truly an anthem of the damned
Nah mate. If they had a chart for 'the worst songs ever', this one wouldn't even be in the top ten...
Raving reviews, and 7.6 average?
Wow. Really excited about Linda Perry. I get it.
Guess I need to look at Now Playing more often......
i wonder how this would sound
if other singers covered it
Well, there is this interesting cover.
That cover is fabulous! 😆🤣

Life was messy, it was the 90's what can I say - and it still makes me sing.
once a decade works for me.

Different, one would presume.
And poof it was gone
if other singers covered it

Once a decade is once too many
Dean Ween: I don’t remember where I was, or what I was doing, but I remember hearing it and thinking, “This is the most obnoxious f@cking hollering I’ve ever heard in my life.” I could envision the horrible, horrible female that was singing it, and I knew that it was gonna be a hit, just by how bad I hated it. I knew that it was going to be played for years by every f@cking bad girl band that came through my local bar, and sung on every karaoke night for the rest of time. I was just instantly overcome with a sense of dread, and of course it’s all come to pass.
