Yesterday I got so old
I felt like I could die
Yesterday I got so old
It made me want to cry

Go on go on
Just walk away
Go on go on
Your choice is made
Go on go on
And disappear
Go on go on
Away from here

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween
Without you
Without you

Yesterday I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday away from you
It froze me deep inside

Come back come back
Don't walk away
Come back come back
Come back today
Come back come back
Why can't you see?
Come back come back
Come back to me

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween
Without you

If I had to pick the quintessential Cure song, this would be my choice.
Has a breakup ever been so danceable? Of course, Head on a Door!

I just realized the same thing! All those years with RP and somehow I've missed to rate this. Back then it was a solid 10. Still is.

One of my favorite concerts of all time. I figured it would start raining like hell and maybe even cause the show to be cancelled, it was looking that bad.

The warmup band, pretty good, but I forget their name, came on looking at the sky nervously but the rain held off and they had a great set.

Then right before the Cure came on, I'm getting a shiver as I recall this now, the sky literally turned into a giant green swirling cauldron, complete with the occasional lighting flash hidden in the depths - those of you from the midwest may have seen these pre-tornado beasties. The wind picked up and the temperature dropped, now I'm thinking not only might the show be cancelled, but in this large crowd and the car far away in distant parking lot, I might be in danger.

The Cure took the stage to the most perfect Cure-like environment imaginable, dark and dangerous, like a Hollywood movie, only real, and played a killer show. Damn that was a fine night indeed.

Heard them live twice, summer outdoor festivals both times, rained both times only on the day they played :)

Great story! I just saw them last night (indoors, so no foreboding weather), and Robert and the boys killed it! The setlist had songs from 1979 along with new ones, and everything in between (days). Best show I've ever seen by them was in Giants Stadium in New Jersey in 1989; it was astonishing to see over 50,000 people show up for a band that didn't even get any major radio airplay.
Check this and other Cure hits  from 2023 tour on  video.

They sounded great
In 1999, Robert Smith was behind me in the queue to get into The Electric Ballroom in Camden, London. I was so star struck, all I could think to say was "Why the f**k are you queueing? I think they'll just let you in!" He just laughed a slightly awkward laugh and said "I'm British. We queue!"
It's my adolescence, so, necessarily! 9

Poor Stingray. Whatever became of our capslock comrade?

1/20/23: Nice segue from Rush "The Spirit of Radio" --> this.
This has 1986 written all over it.
The Bed's Too Big Without You - The Police
I Will Possess Your Heart - DCFC
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
In-Between Days - The Cure

A heartfelt set there BillG

Same here, MM Prague.  This takes me back to tons of college parties at the Univ of Illinois back in the day.  Great times with some great friends.

I think this is the first time i've read the lyrics despite loving the Cure for decades.

"When I said it was true that it couldn't be me and her inbetween without you"

IS this a song about someone begging his partner to come back because he suggested a threesome?  :P
From Dick Dale to Death Cab to Joy Division to this. Get out of my head, Bill!

The Cure is hit or miss for me. ...this is a HIT! ...I like it a lot!
Ahh the good days of unquantized drums.
This is one concert I am sad I missed in my younger years.

going out in Beleek castle in ballina. bliss. great tune.
One of the best 'new music' bands of the late 80ties and 90ties.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! Takes me back 30 years ago to great memories!
Dancing at my desk.  Thanks, Bill!!  {#Dancingbanana_2}
I always sing the first two lines of Yes' staple 'Yours Is No Disgrace to this

'Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race,'
(For those not old enough to remember!)

Never really went for The Cure in the day - I was too much of a music snob.

Radio Paradise has (hopefully) resolved that problem.
Just been to see them play live in London last weekend. What a fantastic live band! Over two hours of back to back songs.
If you get the chance... get on down!
Just bought "Mixed Up" Box set, Deluxe Edition.

What will the "Shiver Mix" - 2018 remaster of this song be like...........?

Odd, since this song is from 1985; older than either of those songs - much older than the second one you mentioned.  There are some similarities in some of their chord progressions and guitar sound sometime, though.
Interestingly, some thought the Cure were "over" and then this one was released. They had some life left in em, that was for sure

Well said. Listening to the arrangement, and trying to remove my personal knowledge and bias from the equation, I really believe this could pass for a new song. It certainly doesn’t sound 30 years old. The energy from the drumming is palpable. A solid 9 for me.
Just makes me wanna dance. {#Dancingbanana}

The Cure was considered to be one of the coolest bands around when I grew up during the 80's but their songs never really touched me. I like this one though.
When you say it's true  first becomes a make do, and then true.
Just saw Robert Smith and the band last night at MSG in New York City. They sounded amazing, and played a 3 hour show featuring 4 encores and 31 songs (including this one!). It's my third time seeing them (1989, 2008 and 2016) and they are always fantastic.

Hearing 20,000 people sing along with this song was a great feeling!

Of the Cure tunes, I like this one more than most. I ask though...how many times must we hear the Cure on a given day? I feel that with the wonderful variety that RP offers...there really isn't any reason to have more than one in a day at the most. Not really complaining, just venting a bit. I'll still take this over commercial radio any day.
