the book I'm not reading is riveting
the book I'm not reading keeps me up at night
the book I'm not reading is better than TV
giving me insight
the book I'm not reading is history
the book I'm not reading is by some paperback writer
the book I'm not reading is a mystery
who done it don't matter
oh I need someone to read me stories
oh someone to turn the page
oh the endless quest for love and glory
oh does not fade away with age

the book I'm not reading is ancient tome
the book I'm not reading was born yesterday
the book I'm not reading keeps me off the phone
with nothing to say
the book I'm not reading is the self-help kind
the book I'm not reading has a life jacket enclosed
the book I'm not reading is a friend of mine
god knows we need those

oh I need someone to read me stories
oh someone to turn the page
oh the endless quest for love and glory
oh does not fade away with age
the book I'm not reading's on the internet
the book I'm not reading is a brand new movie
the book I'm not reading isn't out yet
and it's all new to me
the book I'm not reading isn't written down
the book I'm not reading is an English translation
the book I'm not reading should be read aloud
and I'm getting impatient

oh I need someone to read me stories
oh someone to turn the page
oh the endless quest for love and glory
oh does not fade away with age

Reading is good for you.  Sounds like you're behind.

Thank you, I'm not the only one late to the game.

There's a cut on this disc which is just a Patty guitar solo--chops that are akin to and perhaps rival, say, Richard Thompson. Very cool.
Sounds interesting, I'd like to hear that!
Pleasant but unremarkable. Needs a good hook. Like Indigo Girls without the strong harmonies.

Very much "related" to Alanis Morrisette, who made a stronger impression on me, so far.
Always looking for the comment I'd make in the posts. That being said, being found, we're all done. Not a bad song, but not memorable either.
Woah, I was just singing this to myself about an hour ago. You're freaking me out Bill...
I wish this was the song I'm not hearing.
This reminds me of Animal Logic. Q
Is it over yet?
What is the point with the vocal effects?Somebody drag that producer out back and smash his fingers. This has a thin, artificial propped up feel to it. The good percussion is wasted. That ,the main vocals and the snappy acoustic would have made for a tight sound.
I saw her perform this song in front of Boston City Hall in a show that opened with Jen Trynin and closed with Leo Kottke. Patty's guitar chops were just awesome - she's easily one of the finest players around. This whole album is fabulous - some truly beautiful music.
This woman has horrid reading habits.

is she happy in that jacket, or cold? i can't tell.
She's happy, because now she's warm?
Coming to Greenville, SC to the Handlebar Fri. July 28. I am so excited to see someone from RP coming to a venue within 2.5 hours of me!

Repetitive?! O the hypocrisy!
I've never understood why a person who says, in a variety of ways, that they don't like songs is called repetitive while people who swoon dramatically over every track aren't.
How low must a song be rated before it falls out of its playlist(s)?
To quote Carmela Soprano, this is not my favorite.

I hear strong shades of Shawn Colvin's "Diamond In The Rough".

she kinda sounds like she's listened to a little bit too much ani difranco. she's trying to sing like her, not working for me :(
Oh hell yeah you hit the nail on the head with that one my friend. I felt that way as soon as she opnend her mouth.
Which reminds me, I have some apples in the crisper drawer which need to be pitched out.

The rest of the song ranges from Acceptable to Pretty Good but the "the book I'm not reading" is so repetitive and hard to understand (in both senses) I have to rate this as Marginal.
even the album cover photo seems self-absorbed
isn't one cheryl crow enough. this isn't as clever, or as cute, as patty thinks it is
I have several library books I'm not reading. Oh well.
I like everything about this song. Fun tune, goofy lyrics. It suits me fine!

I always like Patty Larkin. I feel sorry for the those who don't.
I've never heard any of her other stuff, but I quite liked this song. Personally I felt that the message was more about how life sometimes just happens and you never manage to get to that thing (ie; a book?) that you meant to do...
Nice catchy tune. The lyrics are a little puzzling. Is this a song about the futility of reading?
There's a cut on this disc which is just a Patty guitar solo--chops that are akin to and perhaps rival, say, Richard Thompson. Very cool. :propeller.gif:
lame. empty. deadly mediocre.

hmm.. the beginining sounds like that song on the TV show Carnival on HBO.. does it not ...
perishable artist. This song doesn't do anything for me.
this song was both extremely annoying and extremely boring. sometimes lyrical repetition is a bad thing.
I feel like this song might work better as an instrumental. sorry
