I find you in the morning
After dreams of distant signs
You pour yourself over me
Like the sun through the blinds
You lift me up
And get me out
Keep me walking
But never shout
Hold the secret close
I hear you say

You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
It spits you out
When you desire
To conquer it
To feel you're higher
To follow it
You must be clean
With mistakes
That you do mean
Move the heart
Switch the pace
Look for what seems out of place

On and on it goes
Calling like a distant wind
Through the zero hour we'll walk
Cut the thick and break the thin
No sound to break no moment clear
When all the doubts are crystal clear
Crashing hard into the secret wind

You know the way
It twists and turns
Changing colour
Spinning yarns
You know the way
It leaves you dry
It cuts you up
And takes you high
You know the way
It's painted gold
Is it honey
Is it cold
You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
It spits you out
When you desire
To conquer it
To feel you're higher
To follow it
You must be clean
With mistakes
That you do mean
Move the heart
Switch the pace
Look for what
Seems out of place

It's o.k.
It goes this way
The line it twists
It twists away
Cuts you up
and spits you out
Keeps you walking
But never shout.

Hi all. A little memory of no importance that I would like to share: 40 years ago (more or less) at a Bauhaus gig I was knocked to the ground by Murphy´s flying/spinning  microphone. I came round in the arms off a little punkette who brought me back with sips from  her warm  hip flask "hidden" in her fishnet stockings. She prontly disapeared... I wonder If shes listening to RP  thinking about that skinny idiot sitting in all that spit!

Absolutely great story, and beats the hell out of mine:  36 years ago I found myself in LA driving a rented car on the way to a corporate meeting in a job that was sucking the life force out of me.  I was a single dad and hated to be on the road on top of that.  Then this song I had never heard before came on the radio and catapulted me out of the depths.  It wasn't the first time music has saved me, and I was silently grateful to the DJ who played it, probably some bloke like Bill - sorry, WILLIAM!  It couldn't have been you, could it?  (I have listened to RP for two decades, I know he reads these posts.)

And moss lucky you, to have crossed paths with that little punkette - your very sketchy description of her makes her as compelling a character as any I have read in a novel.  So compelling, I wouldn't mind meeting her myself...  in line behind you, of course!
The driving Drum... with the floating strings... over the top ... wow .. then that voice comes in ...

10 ... all the way....

Jees! How long did it take to dream that  up?

What a great story!
YES!
the great peter murphy!
this really brings back the late 80s for me. and while i write this, "crosses" by josé gonzález starts playing. hail to you, oh bill, the grandmaster of the perfect segue . now i'll probably grin and weep for a few minutes simultaneously - well, that will go along very well with my 1980s feeling...
What about "Roll call" from the same album?

Found this poster I had forgotten was still in collection from back in the 80's.
Now it hangs in my garage (out door man cave) where I see it everyday driving in and out.

When you meet your biometric-marker doppelganger you simply... know it.
Thanks Bill. You are awesome.
He likes short

I've always loved this song.
Good song.

Bizarre story: Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy Ejected From His Own Concert: Report
I do like this (8) - 2nd time in last few hours.

No PSD used either.
Well, isn't he an odd fellow?
Looks quite fit and trim actually, and there's nothing unusual in doing a little stretching.
powerful{#Propeller}
Our gen's PBS (Percy B. Shelley) always gets a 10 outta me. Yeah, so there are some that are not so 10-ish. Not this one.
Sisters of Mercy?
One of the best male voices in 80s rock. Still gives me shivers.
Rock needs more cello.
This just in: Bela Lugosi is still dead.
Just heard this 2 songs ago, so must be a glitch, but that is ok, it is great :-)

Mr. Extraordinary !
Murphy's great!  hey DaidyBoy have you tried chi-gung calisthenics while listening to him? I slowly alter my center while extending my arms in windmill like rotations, eyes half-closed, deep breathing, almost like you're a robot cleaning a big window in slow motion, and all the while remembering those wicked Bauhaus days of so long ago...
epically epic {#Bananajam}
Compelling and wonderful.

I remember Donna Donna on LIR.  She was great - fun days.
Peter Murphy was one of my first introductions to "alternative" music in the early 90s.  Really opened up a whole new world.
Awesome..

Applause.

Miss that station. Every time a halfway decent alt station shows up (not counting college stations) in the NY-NJ tri-state area, it never lasts for long. thank god for RP.

it was WLIR where I first heard this tune.

Was a feature spin on WLIR radio out of Long Island. Really kicks that drum kit!
Too bad I didn't connect much with his other tuneage.

One of my all time favorites.  What a great voice and the violin is delicious!
This takes me straight back to college.  Thank You

Meh
His work is just beautiful, and although I find myself partial to "Indigo Eyes" and "Dragnet Drag," this definitely resonates.

What always struck me about this song is that the musicality of it (compared to the tracks you mention) doesn't make it less Peter Murphy.  Also, this track holds up for me after 25 years or so.

I'd love to hear Bauhaus stuff, but it doesn't fit with RP.

Just about anything fits with RP.  "Bela Lugosi..." is on the playlist but it hasn't been played in two years.  Anyhow, I agree that this isn't any less Peter Murphy.

I can't stand this song :/

One of his most resonate tracks from his best album.

I came back to the computer a few minutes too late-argh!- and will, of course, now have to hunt it down and listen to it....
from 9 to a 10 imo, PM's a wicked singer and his lyrics are a cool read

Some singers/musicians don't do as well once they leave their band. Peter Murphy isn't one of them.

I still love the teeny tiny revvy basteard fiats, I wish I had a 500 Abarth, they are absurdly expensive in NZ.
Like most Italian machinery love affairs it defies logic, you either hate it or you love it. My first bike was a Ducati and I absolutely hated that.

My current love is a 2011 Subaru WRX, Red and Black like this bad boy. Back roads watch out! Big powerband from a turbo that doesn't know it's only a 2.5 liter engine.

Have always liked this song. This album is awesome too. Makes me miss the days of Bauhaus though...

Takes me back to Boston Uni days.  Thanx Bill

Great song! Ik like it at least as much as the original Bauhaus stuff and the voice sounds as powerful and biting as it did then.
Unless there's a really good reason, I can't give more than 5/10 to a song with synth violin.
On the one in a zillion chance that any one here gives a crap — I love this song!

Discovered this tune when I was "coming into my own" in Boston.  This straight guy discovered Manray night club in Cambridge.  Once I got past the discomfort pf being in a gay club, I realized, "these people" know damn good music.  Pretty sure I discovered the music of Peter Murphy in that club.  Then when I started traveling for work, I would seek out all the gay haunts in every town because I knew it would be interesting and fun and I actually made friends so now "some of my best friends are gay".  Oh that sounds terrible.  But anyway, Manray, Peter Murphy ... great memories.

Cuts ME up.
Nice disc- nice change from Bauhaus - good for its time - a wee bit dated, but nice.

Did this one live in Madrid last October but semi accoustically having 5 minutes previously had a good old bust up with his bass player in front of all and sundry (never to be seen again!) - great showman, grossly under rated imho - would love to hear his latest stuff on here too if possible.  Love how he has kept going keeping some of his original feistiness together with some great tunes.  I think his supreme self confidence/arrogance  is great too - he's good and he knows it and why not!
