Bones sinking like stones all that we've fought for
All these places we've grown, all of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world

Bones sinking like stones, all that we've fought for
All these places we've grown, all of us are done for

And we live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world
And we live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world

Oh all that I know, there's nothing here to run from
'Cos yeah, everybody here's got somebody to lean on

The first song on their first album in my opinion also their best. Could be quite tragic though I don’t think they care much :-)
This clearly shows a pre-large-stadium song writing for Coldplay. And it is amszging.

me too. so soothing.
For my ears, this just hasn't aged very well.  Twenty years ago, I was digging their vibe...now it seems like so much dross...
It's a beautiful world we live in
A sweet romantic place
Beautiful people everywhere
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
For you
For you
For you

Coldplay is not for me
I'm not Coldplay's greatest fan but my partner likes them so, as a present, I got two tickets to their recent show at Cardiff Principality Stadium on the Music of the Spheres Tour.  I have to say that I was mighty impressed - a stunning show in very many ways, even though the venue had all the rock and roll ambience and intimacy of a neglected public convenience (great for watching rugby though).

We were once coming back from the club, everyone pretty much completely smashed but my driver friend (who was a bit smashed), it was an Autumn night, just transforming into the early morning.
It was chilly and foggy when we slowed down as we were entering the town our first friend to be dropped at lived, and this song came on the radio.
Everybody in the car, without meaning to, slowly shut up the drunken mutter that was going on, and had a moment of gratitude and clear presence.

I don't remember a lot of things, especially from that age and time as we were all partying alot. But that moment, I remember it clearly.

So yeah obviously a 10 and this whole album is a real treat. What came after is not relevant for this comment.

10 for me... I love this album....... It's all about the memories.

This is such a simple honest well-written song, and the whole album has the same quality. Their next album was still pretty good, but they lost me after that. Too much fluff, trying too hard. Sometimes a guitar, a bass, some drums, and a singer is just all you need.
a guilty pleasure...
What a rarity…a Coldplay song with mostly positive comments. Great tune.
great song, great little band, God knows what happened to them......
Knock me over with a feather. . . This followed Hurt by Johnny Cash.
Back when Coldplay music had a meaning.

Brilliant in its hopeful and melancholy tone while being morbid and depressing at the same time.  Love this song.

I don't know what happened after the second album either. It was like someone flipped the trivial switch.

This is my fave Coldplay song.  Not a huge fan otherwise.  Don't Panic - nod to Douglas Adams.

I can't find it on the app for my new soundbar, either, which is bit of a stresser.  It limits my peace of mind when I can't skip some of the more obscure tracks we hear here.  Or the entire Coldplay collection, of course.

It seems unfair to dismiss such a competent band of musicians so easily, but sometimes I just have to say that I don't like it and that's good enough.  Chris Martin's delivery winds me up.  The quiet, croaky bit at the beginning of every track and the guaranteed attempt at falsetto which he treats us to every time.  I also don't like Neil Young's voice, or Tom Jones' style, or whatever.  Who cares what I like or don't like.  Only me.  And I love RP on a daily basis, especially when I can skip the ones that I don't like.

You ought to pair this with The Eagles' "Journey of the Sorcerer."

Yep, for me too. This album was beautiful in its honesty and simplicity, and this song is probably the best example of that. ‘A Rush of Blood’ was still OK, but after that it went downwards quickly.

Depends on what you're watching, I suppose - there are some great shows that show us nature and the world around us in gorgeous ways that few of are ever likely to experience first hand.

That said, spending your life glued to the tube is sad - and the ratio of ick to yeah on TV these days is awfully high, it's true.

Love me some early ColdPlay - this album and A Rush of Blood are fantastic.

Used to wake up to this song.  Brings back memories of a beautiful girl and a quiet house full of canine and aquatic life.

World is beautiful when we turn off television.
The band everybody loves to hate.
I will love Coldplay forever ... they were the "drug of choice" during the darkest days of law school.
They will always have a special place in my heart, and this song is of course, up there in my pantheon of Coldplay songs!

Actually, if you'd bothered to check out Coldplay's discography before assuming they mass produce the same trash over and over, you'd find that every album of theirs is massively different in sound.

Yes, everyone here seems to loathe Martin (besides me, I suppose), but I would argue that their music itself has always been interesting and, until the most recent album, actually quite pleasant to listen to. And certainly has morphed and evolved drastically through time.
Damn then for being popular....

I like this song, but that made me laugh.
A very odd follow on to Johnny Cash's "Hurt"
Such good memories from ATL and last year of schooling and planning a wedding...
Cold play took the world by storm.. I hope they can recover from the slump they're in now..
maybe the only Coldpaly song I can listen to without feeling the constant need to "PSD" it. Because the singer doesn't sing too high but remains within a decent voice level ? It deserves a "3", it's tolerable and there are points for the music which I kind of like.

Chris Martin's falsetto is currently making cats within earshot of radioparadise (or any Coldplay concert) vomit violently. Animal cruelty. Please get a new singer Coldplay. Your music is splendid, but your singer is an artichoke.

I love this song, but it seems so sad for me, it breaks my heart every time I listen to it. Maybe it's because of my personal experience...
I just love this song - very emotional and moving
Don't panic. This song won't last long.
Absolutly good

They used to be good.
Thom Yorke and Chris Martin need to exchange singing lesson gift cards for Christmas.

This song does not suck.

I totally agree. The main problem is that the first two CD's were really good from an INDIE band. After that they turned into a Top 40 Pop Band. Such a shame. They are so shit now.

Isn't Indie just another way of saying "not famous yet"?
As soon as they're famous, they become "shit" by definition?
I think this is the absurd Catch 22 that drove Kurt Cobain over the edge.

He's not implying that becoming famous implies becoming "shit". It was just an observation. For some bands it holds, for others it doesn't. In my opinion, for Coldplay it unfortunately holds…

Yeah, I agree that calling something "shit" simply because it's mainstream is ignorant and common, but surely it DOES happen sometimes.  It makes sense:  A band trying to find it's way looks within for inspiration.  Once they have fame, they can be pressured by their label to produce more hits or by their own desire to continue making huge amounts of money, or whatever.  Now they're looking to more superficial sources for their inspiration (what do the fans want, how can I repeat the success of my last hit, etc.)  These types of influences can and often do change an artist's music.  Some do change (Coldplay a little bit, I think).  Some strong ones refuse (Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc.) and some can't handle the conflict (Cobain, Eliot Smith, etc.)
Small, but perfectly formed.

as in many cases this first album is never being surpassed by the later ones
Everything from Garden State is truly excellent.  Thanks Bill for noticing this sleeper classic and playing the soundtrack.
Really nice song - and a sentiment that is under-appreciated.

Love this song so much; it's one of the reasons the Garden State soundtrack holds such a special place in my heart. 8 ~> 9
Oh, I adore this song. Love the album. We live in a beautiful world...
They got so massive for an Indie band. I remember when they first came through Vancouver, no one know who they were. Such a different story now! Still have a soft spot for them.

Yeah we do!

Nice to hear the older tracks — much more pleasing than the newer stuff they're churning out.  I'll bump this from 7 —> 8
Beautiful song.
Agree with the Canadian comment.  It's a comfort.

Sorry if I'm missing something here but what's to hate about Coldplay?
Well, here's my cue to sign out and go to bed.

Sounds so good, compared to that pop track they released the other day.
a simply perfect pop song. everything a song needs in less than three minutes.

Forgotten? In my country it's a hit as big as 'Yellow'. And let's not forget it was on the Garden State soundtrack (in the "Blue Room EP" version I think).
As a casual admirer of Coldplay, this is kind of a forgotten track. Nice to hear it again.
I was really into this album when it first came out.
But Coldplay seemed to head in a direction that no longer spoke to me.
I never play their music anymore,
But I don't mind hearing the occasional track from this album.
