I understand your frustration. I thought as you do for a long time about electronic music. First lets create to definitions:
Musician - A person who plays an instrument.
Musical Artist (AKA composer) - A person who composes and compiles the works of other musicians.
Composers are not always musicians and musicians are not always composers. Sometimes they are one, sometimes they are another, sometimes they are both. In the same way when you read the credits of a musical there is Music, by X, Lyrics by Y based on the book or story by Z.
I used to think Electronic music was - I don't know what. Once I started thinking about DJs in the same way i thought about classical composers it allowed me to appreciate the new sounds, soundscapes and music they were creating.
