I guess you don't take to subtlety very well. The rhythm was there... dono how you missed it. I guess for you it was lacking the heavy drum beat or...?
BTW I found it a lovely song, like most of Lucinda's stuff.

Brevity is the soul of wit.
A pretty good working definition of a “lament” is a song with repetitive lyrics. It is not a popular genre but Ms Williams could bring pathos to “Happy Birthday” and I find myself liking this very very much.
