Reggae got soul
Got so much soul
Listen to the beat
Move your dancing feet
Rock your bodyline
Move in time
You don't have to salute
While I'm passing through
Listen to the beat
Move your dancing feet
Rock your bodyline
Right in time
This reggae got soul
Got so much soul
Grandmother can do it
Grandfather can do it
Do it and feel alright
This reggae got soul
Got so much soul
Reggae got soul
For the young and old
Makes me want to sing and dance and do all kinds of crazy things
When I listen to the music makes me want to shout Oh Glory
Hallelujah
Makes me feel alright in the day or in the night
Ooh reggae got soul, reggae, reggae
Rock it to my bones, move me around
Reggae got soul, got so much soul
Al my life I feel so good
Come on baby, come have a dance with me
Reggae, reggae, reggae got soul.......
Got so much soul
Listen to the beat
Move your dancing feet
Rock your bodyline
Move in time
You don't have to salute

Love RP, but, too much Reggae?
What a joy it is to remember seeing these guys at Belly Up Tavern, a fairly small venue in Solana Beach that allows you to step right up to the stage.
Love when RP plays reggae but from the comments I seem to be in the minority. To my mind the genre - roots music from Jamaica - fits well with the ethos of what RP is all about.

Just fab.
Best time of the week, friday afternoon (in Sweden) and RP.
Gawd, I haven’t heard this in 30 years. So fun to RE-connect with it

Glad to see this occasional rotation. Wonderful song off a great album.

For some reason I had only rated this an 8... bumped up to a solid 9+. Would probably be a 10 live.

I've seen him twice. He is alway fun and upbeat. Willie Nelson even came out on stage and played two songs with him during one of the concerts.

100% correct,, great one to start with when you want to see what was going down other the Marley. Jamaca, for small population, contributed dispotionately to the world of music then any other place. They really don't get the credit. From the beginnings of Rap, Raves, remixes, Dub/Bass, rock steady, ska, on and on.

This song is on the movie "Surfs Up." I wouldn't have recognized it without RP!
The title of this LP is eponymous with the title of this song, not what Bill put up there.
I know because I bought it 30 years ago, along with Funky Kingston.

My wife and I bought a compilation album with this song on it while on our honeymoon in Belize. So this song will always take me back to traversing the rutted dirt roads of Belize in our tiny rented SUV. Ahh....

How does this "detract from the genius of RJD2"? If anything, an inferior song should further highlight the so-called genius of the previous song, no?

Toots & The Maytals - Reggae Got Soul
Muddy Waters - Rollin' and Tumblin'
The Blasters - I'm Shakin'
James Horner - Sing, Sing, Sing
Reggae + Soul = So Much Soul.

I'm not much of a Toots fan, but I like this one. This tune kind of reminds me a good bit of Peter Tosh. Hey RP!, play more Peter Tosh!

If there's one person who knows that Reggae got Soul it's Toots!
Just returned north from the Caribbean melting pot, and this song is making my day!
Been into Toots Hibbert since the early 1970s. Even got to see him once. He coined the word ''reggae'' and would have been a bigger force in reggae but for Bob Marley, who had more edge and less dance in him.
I wish my cubicle had a front porch so I could head out there and start dancing!
Thanks for one of those songs that picks up my spirits. When I saw Toots play this in a local club a few years ago, the whole place swayed with so much soul.
The bass is giving my subwoofer a serious workout!
Likeable, but not Toots' best.
Toots has some great stuff. This isn't among it.

I've been to the Carribean, but I rarely partied with the locals and I've never been to Jamaica. I've posted in RP that I don't like reggae - I just don't have the "gene." Funny to think that a trip to Jamaica at the right time in life could have made me a major reggae fan.

I certainly agree that just because I like it does not mean that you have to. I was just trying to explain why some of us like reggae. Yes, it is emotional, but then again emotion is what we are supposed to feel when we listen to good music. So, I guess we can agree to disagree. For me, the volume goes up on this song, and I guess for you, the mute button goes on. Such is life!

People who don't like reggae must not have ever been to the Carribean or to some other place where having fun in the sun and having cold drinks is a way of life. Reggae music helps keep me sane!

Toots reminds me of James Brown. He's the hardest working man in show biz, and he's the guy who invented reggae. I saw him in Portland, ME., and was blown away. They should send Toots and the Maytals to the Middle East to play for all the "leaders"- they'd end up in the same love-fest the rest of us who hear these guys do.
Love RP, but, too much Reggae?
Never!
