I really hope Shawn Colvin is getting a piece of the royalties
she sure deserves for this song...
Love the album cover!
the song will need a coupla plays to work it's way in an' through an' out!
the song will need a coupla plays to work it's way in an' through an' out! The trouble with this song is that it's mediocre. (Though I like the steel guitar.)
This might be fun live, but it sounds pretty mediocre here.

I was thinking the same thing. Does Shawn Colvin know about this??
Black Rabbit (instrumental) and Black Snow from his Rapture album are fantastic.
Peter Mulvey has frequently played in an unusual venue, the Sinks of Gandy, a cave system in the hills of rural West Virginia.

Thank you! I was just about to post the same thing...
trivial.
the trouble with mediocre songwriters is they stretch too far.
never heard of this singer but I like his song! is it too much to hope that the next song in this setlist will be Poets by Tragically Hip?
It was so good to hear Peter yesterday. Need to play more of this guy. Kitchen Radio is a wonderful album. Check it out!
Foof
I saw Peter at a small cafe in Monterey, CA; he put on a great show. Bought this CD, which has a lot of excellent songs. Thanks to RP for giving this young artist some well-deserved airtime. I hope to hear more of Peter here and in a better radiosphere everywhere.

Good catch! Call the lawyers...
"Sunny came home...."
Not normally what i would listen to but love the groove
Okay!
I give it an "8"!
How long have I been listening to RP and howcum this is the first time I've heard this song?!?
I conclude Bill should play it more (please?!?) :nodhead:
Woo hoo! Peter Mulvey!! Now go download a full-length MP3 of "Shirt" from his website!
Don't forget to check out his co-writer/guitarist David "Goody" Goodrich, too.
Goody's "Accidentals of the West" is some beautiful instrumental work.
I like the words- that IS the problem with Dylan, which you just played, who I admire a lot, but I think Dylan would be even more potent if he limited himself to 3 verses per song. Either that, or perhaps expanded his musical vocabulary beyond three chords.

stop banging your head...you'll hurt yourself. 8)
unless, of course, you are "rockin" :)
V*E*R*Y nice backing vocal from Jennifer Kimbal from 'The Story' ...

Actually, the lyrics are:
The trouble with poets is they talk too much
They tell us it hurts them a little more
And we cannot tell if they make this up
We've never stood in their shoes, in their skins, in their heads, on their shores
and I like them a lot. Given that the artist is himself a poet (as are all lyricists) it has a tongue in cheek quality that really appeals to me.Not a bad song but very silly lyrics - "The trouble with poets is that they hurt more than us" (rough paraphrase)? What group of "poets" is Mulvey referring to? Hope you add more Peter Mulvey to the playlist -- his mostly-solo covers on Ten Thousand Mornings (recorded in a subway station, but don't let the gimmick discourage you) are simply amazing. Listen to Inner City Blues: this ain't no Marvin Gaye, but it still makes ya wanna holler.
No, I don't get royalties from this album, just a lot of inspirpation for my own guitar-playing.
First time I\'ve heard this song, but I already know I want to hear it more. Catchy melody, unusual lyrics. Good addition to the playlist.
this is definitely one of the BEST of the new additions to the playlist. I may have to check into this artist some more.
Pretty good flow, good changes.
Nice voice. Lyrics are up in the air though....
