There's a fog upon L.A.
And my friends have lost their way
"We'll be over soon", they said
Now they've lost themselves instead
Please don't be long
Please don't you be very long
Please don't be long
For I may be asleep
Well, it only goes to show
And I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street
There's so many there to meet
Please don't be long (don't be long)
Please don't you be very long (don't be long)
Please don't be long
For I may be asleep
Now, it's past my bed, I know (know)
And I'd really like to go (go)
Soon will be the break of day (day)
Sitting here in Blue Jay Way (Way)
Please don't be long (don't be long)
Please don't you be very long (don't be long)

An actual street in L.A. where George was renting a house when he wrote the song. Same house where Paul Simon would later write the first two verses of "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
I drove up into the hills looking for it the other day. Fun.

Worst ever Beatles song? First time I've heard something from them I didn't like.
Let me first say that I love this entire album. It was the first record I ever bought. But, listening to this song on headphones now, I see how odd the production is. Maybe the mono mix was better as was usually the case at that time since most people didn't have stereo record players in 1967.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. They were all great! (though I haven't heard enough of Ringo's work to judge him fairly, but I've liked everything I've heard from him so far)
George was underrated during the Beatles years. When he released All Things Must Pass he poured out three discs full of material, much of which he wrote when he was allowed only one or two songs per Beatles album. In retrospect, George was a magnificent songwriter. Think of Abbey Road without Something or Here Comes the Sun.
Awfully annoying. Turning the volume all the way down didn't help. Made me want to turn off the radio completely.
Another one of those off-beat, rarely heard Beatle tunes that are absolutely awesome! Merely the fact that you don't hear it very much makes me like it even more. Yesterday it was "Hey Bulldog" on RP, today this one... I'm liking it!

Hear Hear!! I sure can't!!

No
This is the longest, trippiest song I've heard in awhile.
alwyas thought this was a toss off by George. Not one of his better ones.
I think it's amazing that they could sound this "trippy" in the mid to late 60's. Thanks to George Martin, the "fab four" stayed WAY ahead of their time.

Another statement I need to disagree with. You can never get enough Beatles!

Yet another illustration that George was the best songwriter of the bunch.

Hear hear.
This song sucks? No way! Some of the comments below sound like they came from a Britney Spears fansite message board. Its the Beatles; even their worst song contains more talent that just about every other group\'s entire library!

\"Classic Rock\" seems to translate to 24-hour Pantera...
I requested this on the local \"Classic Rock\" station once... got a few seconds of confused silence on the other end, then, \"That\'s a Beatles song?\"
Oy. One of those yet moments...

Why, when they put their mind to it, they can suck with the best of them. (This is a good example)

Huh?
Even a "marginal" Beatles song is light years ahead of most other songs :D

George is on another level of the Magical Mystery Tour...
