Quickly, follow the unknown
With something more familiar
Quickly, something familiar
Courage, my word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Sleepwalk, so fast asleep
In a motel that has the lay of home
And piss on all of your background
And piss on all your surroundings
Courage, my word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, your word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, my word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, it couldn't come at a worse time
There's no simple
Explanation
For anything important
Any of us do
And, yeah, the human
Tragedy
Consists in
The necessity
Of living with
The consequences
Under pressure
Under pressure
Courage, my word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, your word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, my word
It didn't come, it doesn't matter
Courage, it couldn't come at a worse time
It couldn't come at a worse time
No
It couldn't come at a worse time
Courage
For anyone that likes this song and want to hear more by the Hip, I highly recommend this album (Fully Completely). All but 2 songs became Canadian rock radio staples. It's really one of the best front to back albums of the 90s IMO.
I recently rediscovered two latter day Hip records: Music@Work and In Violet Light. Try them on again for size, they were and are both terrific.
Thank you! We love Americans who don't vote for Trump.
Biden worked out great eh, WW III on the doorstep
10!!!!!!!
!!!!!!
Sadly, outside of the song Bobcaygeon, I was late to discover this band. Man would I have loved to see them LIVE. RIP Gord!
Their very last show in my city was show #40 for me. Their live show was second to none.
Peace
Thanks eh.

Ahhhhh Gordie and the boys!!
Peace
thanks, eh
There's some other great songs on other albums too. 'Ahead by a Century' on Trouble at the Hen House is one of my favourites. Damn good band....
Fuck your God .... they made cancer ... didn't they?
Agree completely. Just re-watched the film for the first time in years last night.
Polley, Holm, and in fact the whole cast were excellent.
Still amazing after all these years, and even more heart wrenching, to use your words, now that I am older and have a different perspective on the fleeting nature of life.
Such a great movie. So very sad. I was choked up and trying to hold back tears the whole time. Gord Downie=Courage.
Peace

REM does the Hip passably.
No more pain.
No more confusion and suffering.
Only love.
An entire nation's worth.
Just saw this in my feed this morning; shot in Feb of this year at a Blue Rodeo concert. Stunned by how weak and gaunt he looks. Everything we saw in the media was from before his apparent decline.

RIP Gordie.
Sadly, Gord has passed away. Was a pleasure to have seen the Hip a few times over the years, they are good ones. Will be missed up here in the north.
RIP and thanks for the tunes
Wishing all the best to Gord Downey. There's no way we can repay what he's given us in his lifetime.

I think the band's final concert is this Saturday. The circumstances are so sad, I don't know if I'd want to see it.
But, then gain, I might tune in and listen... If anyone's interested, you can watch or listen via links contained in this article: https://www.cbcmusic.ca/posts/12179/how-to-watch-tragically-hip-concert-cbc-aug-20

"not the next Guess Who?" Why would anyone try to shoehorn these 2 bands, a generation apart, into even the same genre?
They are not the next anything, they've been around for 30 years and have been consistently popular the whole time.
Not a big fan. And not this is not the next Guess Who by a wide margin but the Hip has some good songs and a cult-like following in parts of North America (starting with Ontario).
Yes. Absolutely. I fly fish for steelhead and trout in the area where the The Sweet Hereafter was shot. Where the Nicola flows into the Thompson River. It was a terrific movie.
Incidentally, the Thompson River has been used to portray rivers from Ethiopia and other parts of the world. Sage brush and rattlesnake country.

Excellent song from an excellent album. Why did American radio stations never catch on to this Canadian band? This is a great set to start my day, RP!
I actually did hear them on the radio in Chicago, though I know what you mean. Their tune "Ahead by a Century" and another off of that same CD prompted me to buy it at the time.
Actually they sound better.
Much better than ezra.
Actually they sound better.
True but they filled it for 3 nights. They could have played the local hockey arena and filled it but this way it was way better for everyone.
One of the interesting things they do is that their song writing credits are for the whole band so they all share royalties.
When one considers how many successful bands end up breaking up & suing each other over who did what, and who was "allowed" to do what, because of royalties, it's a refreshing attitude on the Hip's part.
Great tune!!!

I'm in an emoticon mood. LOVE this song...
I totally agree!! Bill should look into playing Sarah Polley's version of this song on here too! (Especially because Bill seems to have a fondness for covers.....). Her version is beautiful, and very different than this original.
As for the rest of you....Seek out The Hip & avail yourself of their music...they seldom disappoint, especially live.
"It's better for us if you don't understand"
I just watched that movie not too long ago. Sarah Polley's version of this song was gorgeous. So beautiful and haunting. Totally go check it out. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrpaoC_-Wk8
The Hip.... hip hip hurrah! Thanks Bill.....
ditto and jealous
COURAGE!!!
You couldna come at worse time!
Saw em in Chicago opening up for a wildly big jam band and they blew everyone AWAY!
Thank goodness for the cult-like following the Hip enjoys among the American friends to occasionally remind some of us snobby Canadians just how good the Hip really is.
