The wind turns like a dagger
The rain falls like a hammer
The sky has grown dark
But it's not too late
The weather crashes down
What's lost cannot be found
The night is closing
But it's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
The atmosphere is lethal
But I will fear no evil
The ocean rolls like thunder
The tempest pulls us under
The dogs are howling
But it's not too late
As broken structures rust
False idols turn to dust
All lies in ashes
And it's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
The atmosphere is lethal
But I will fear no evil
In the dark before the dawn
The echo of the siren's song
Dies away like a ghost
As the day breaks
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
It's not too late
The atmosphere is lethal
But I will fear no evil
The rain falls like a hammer

How did I reach the age of 62 and not get to know T Bone a lot better? This is a very cool song.
This one sounds like if Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen was actually intelligible.
Part of me feels Jacques Brel was being channeled through T-Bone in this one.
HE's real cool

Be interesting to hear this followed by The Dead South's In Hell I'll Be In Good Company.
I discovered this album via the excellent Until the End of the World soundtrack. Cool movie.
Just watched and finished season one of Mr. Mercedes this past week. As the theme song, this was a perfect fit.
I'd never heard it before that, and was pleasantly surprised to hear it here just now.
Thank you RP!

love the dreamy vibe and slide guitar...and that haunting violin!
Yes. He should sing a few Leonard Cohen classics.
This style would go perfectly with "Dance Me To The Edge Of Love" or "Take This Waltz"
Probably make them better.
He is channelling my Montreal homeboy, Leonard Cohen.
This is REALLY good and.......it's not too l a t e

Hey, the guy may look like a Doomsdaying Baptist preacher escaped from some 19th-century Midwest apocalypse but he sure can play.

Masterful instrumentals, and I love his quivery, Harrison-ish vocals. He takes chances in this song, which makes me love it more. The lyrics make me smile and shudder at the same time - it's as if he's both good and evil, holding out hope even as he points out the hopelessness.
Dang - for my first listen, this song is far more complex than I'd thought it would be...

Hello RP-Listeners!
I wish all of you "MERRY CHRISTMAS",
wherever you are - whoever you wanna be!
Christmas, for me, is a sweet-naive tradition -
not a religious event!
Weak as I am - I like it. Yes, I do!
Still - I hope that Bill takes the chance
to rock the christmas-tree to pieces tonight!
"Happy Christmas
your "BAD SANTA",
aka STINGRAY
-from Cologne/Germany-
PS
Sermon of the day (promise: I'm serious):
The "Three Wise Men" - Melchior, Balthasar + Caspar
are buried in a golden sarcophage in"our" dome, the famous
"Cologne dome" - the third highest church-building
in the world - right in the very centre of town, next to the Rhine.
A gothic building of extra-class!

I really like the voice...but the SONG isn`t soooo great...
I like everything about T Bone Burnett except his singing. Too much singing through the nose for my taste. But the fruits of his production & playing & songwriting are all first rate!
String in this reminds me of Amy Winehouse, Back to Black.
A great disk. Surprised at the low rating on this one.
I've met and worked with Burnett - unfortunately, not on a music project and alas, after he and Sam Phillips divorced (really really wanted to meet her!)
He's very nice in person, very gentle and easy to deal with. A real Southern Gentleman, same as his hero Chet Atkins.
So, there's still a few decent people left in the music business.

The Master's voice - nice!
hmmm, not hitting me the same way
I like this.
7 years between comments! Impressive!
This guy can sure write and present some intriguing concepts and feeling. Great!
George Harrison is not dead! :)
I really like all of the T Bone Burnett tunes that I have heard here on RP so far. This one is no exception.
The title track off this cd is excellent!
HE's real cool
My first thought too! Also he had Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli in his band.
