Only thoughtful and sincere song artist musicians could craft a song like this. I tune in PJ often on Sirius in my car; they blast, mellow, rage, roar, howl, shred, pound, harmonize, shriek and rock and roll way past most or all of their contemporaries, who have fallen away. At 32 years and counting--almost peerless--they own several or more of the greatest cuts in the genre and they deliver the real deal for their fans.

Our oldest son of two just graduated college. This past year, every holiday break meant so much to have him and his brother who never stops harassing him to sit with the four of us altogether, TV muted, talking, laughing until our guts hurt and tears rolled down our faces. This is what this song means to me. All of the love and thankfulness we tried to instill and it stuck. They are beautiful, loving, strong, and courteous men.

This album came out when I was probably at the peak of my Pearl Jam fandom. I had joined the PJ fan club around this time. They would give fan club members first crack at concert tickets and when I got the email (maybe it was an actual letter in the mail, this was mid-90s, after all) I filled out my form for 2 tickets to their show at the Great Western Forum in L.A. and mailed it back with my check the same day. Man, was I surprised when I got the tickets in the mail showing 2 tickets front row center! Tenacious D was their opening act. The tickets were $25 each.

This past year, every holiday break meant so much to have him and his brother who never stops harassing him to sit with the four of us altogether, TV muted, talking, laughing until our guts hurt and tears rolled down our faces. This is what this song means to me. All of the love and thankfulness we tried to instill and it stuck. They are beautiful, loving, strong, and courteous men.

I have a single of this . One of my favorites. Great tune and sparse lyrics create such a picture that reminds me of one or two of my own old friends.

Not one of the most known PJ songs but for me one of the best - it's amazing how by using so simple words and expressions Eddie can make you almost see and feel this atmosphere, and radio paradise plays this one a lot. Makes my day in the office every time. tnx guys <3
Nice, deep song by PJ which is perfect for Ed's voice. The lyrics are pretty graphic, giving thought to what it's about. Seems like it is about someone who is fighting drug demons.

Kind of a warped vinyl feel to this one. I can't feel comfortable with it. By the way, my singing career bombed when I was about 10.
The band sounds great but Eddie's voice is uneven. Should have done another take.

Pearl Jam does Neil Young...not a fan, but its not horrible.

Pretty cool how RP can foster appreciation for artists that I never paid much attention to.

I used to hate Pearl Jam and as time has gone on I have developed such appreciation, especially after seeing into the wild and hearing that soundtrack.
The story of "Off He Goes" concerns a friend who periodically comes whirling in and out of the protagonist's life. In an interview, Vedder revealed himself to be the friend. Vedder said, "The song "Off He Goes" is really about me being a shit friend. I'll show up and everything's great and then all of the sudden I'm outta there..."<2> It is also notable to point out that in a Pearl Jam performance in Katowice, Poland on June 16, 2000, Vedder said before starting the song that "this is about being friends with an asshole,"<3> and right after he made the statement he pointed at himself.
