Ahhhahhahhahh

She came from Planet Claire
I knew she came from there
She drove a Plymouth Satellite
Faster than the speed of light

Planet Claire has pink air
All the trees are red
No one ever dies there
No one has a head

Ahhhahhhahhahh

Some say she's from Mars
Or one of the seven stars
That shine after 3:30 in the morning
WELL SHE ISN'T

Ahhhahhhahhahhahhahh

Kate Pierson plays the synth bass for the B-52's. I'm sure it's total homage but with a very lighthearted intent. I mean, just look at that red wig she's wearing on the cover!

Saw the B-52's in about 1984. Excellent concert. (The late) Ricky Wilson was a surprisingly good guitarist.

Well, he didn't!
Funny 🤔 every woman I know named Claire is indeed living on Planet Claire…?!
Imagine it's the late 70s and you're in a dive bar in Athens Georgia drinking a beer and shooting pool when some band you've never heard of gets up and starts playing this.
The base line is a complete rip off (or homage) to the Henry Mancini theme song to the 1960s show Peter Gunn.
silly fun tune!

Still one of the best lines...any song, anywhere
top, still 40 years ... lov it
This is my favorite part of the song:

"Some say she's from Mars
Or one of the seven stars
That shine after 3:30 in the morning
WELL SHE ISN'T"

And he SCREAMS it.  Like, "Get it right dudes.  She's from planet Claire!"
Love these guys.  One of my favorite bands.  Unique, unusual, creative, out of the world.!!  Saw them at Fiddler's Green in Denver and as expected, kicked ass.  Took my 12 year old daughter for her first concert.
Great memories of a now passed good friend who loved this. thanks!
Hey...she must be cool...she drove a Plymouth !  I saw them at Magic Mountain,  Valencia Ca.   A double date I won't forget.
1982 Orange Bowl - Not my finest moment! Love some B-52's. As long as they aren't opening for The Who.
It was 1979 folks...?!
Still hilarious!
Had a friend (Clare) who heard this song when she was young and thought it was written especially for her.  She does live on her own planet (in a good way!)

I completely "Second" this - what the Priest said!

This was SO ahead of it's time - note the year it was released. I read an article about how this album had Lou Reed become re-inspired about music at the time.

40 yrs ago or so I had a very narrow mind concerning music.  Now, I wish I had seen them.  Off the wall fun I bet! Gratefully my taste grew as I did. Started listening to RP in '05 I believe... nothing compares... I'm Grateful Bill and Rebecca

Garyalex, you've got a point since the B-52's always went for pure science and realism.
Stay well, my friend!

You're right.  The B52's paper on the possible effects of dark matter on galactic lensing is well-known in cosmological circles.  And you stay well also.
This is one of my favorite songs from the "New Wave" era! It's positively anthemic and anarchistic at the same time :)

Because I can't unhear Peter Gunn bassline, I always wait for sax to start. Massive song anyways.

Love Shack is the least of their songs. Do a deep dive on their early stuff if you like this one. Quiche Lorraine is how I got my kid hooked on the B-52s.

Don't forget Rock Lobster & Private Idaho - Great stuff!
Would be ahead of it's time NOW!
 Grayson wrote:
Anybody I know rate this less than a 10? I know where you live.

Each rating is in its own relative space. It's an 8 because Dance This Mess Around is a 10. This isn't as good as that so it has to be 8. Compared to other songs that I've rated 8, it might be better, but we can't make that adjustment because it would force some songs down that deserve to be 8 on their own separate scale. It's complicated.

Turn it up already!

Makes me want to go back to my junior year in high school again.  So much I would do over! EXAMPLE:  Go to that B-52's appearance in New Orleans that I skipped for no good reason.  I would have "Danced this mess around"!
bye!

I remember dancing to the B52's in high school!  I feel so fortunate to have experienced my youth then with music like this...so much fun! :)

Just gave Franti a "1." But this band elevates campy to the zenith, fun, fun, fun, even also if they are a club band.
To boring.

Lighten up, Francis.

I love Shakespeare, but I'm not so exalted that I can't laugh at the damned Flintstones occasionally.

Sometimes musicians do things for a reason.

Just sayin'
I still remember the first time I heard this song, a good 36 years ago.
{#Jump}

Great tune - and there is a video from back in the day:

Amen....When I dance I usually fall over.  This is good listening to start the day in Florida.

You sound like a tremendous bore.

Anyone who doesn't want to bop their head and move their booty to this song is hereby banned from my kitchen.  Go be boring elsewhere.
The Peter Gunn Theme as channeled by the B-52's. Next up...Art of Noise

This song is classic....  Always reminds me of Claire and how popular she was ;-)

I remember in college when Charise pulled this record out, and the eponymous Marshall Crenshaw, and played them both for me. Man, did I not like them.

Really, I was having a problem with how much I liked her. I liked her a lot. And it overwhelmed me and I drove her away rather than deal with it.

So, when I hear the B52's, it reminds me how life is short and you'd best grab every chance that steps in front of you.

Do all 16 dances.

you were a damn fool ...
Giving it a 1 - mostly because the high pitched sounds hurt my ears.   But I appreciate the individuality expressed in the music.   OK...increasing to a 2.

This is such a classic album!{#Cowboy}
i´d like to live there... on planet claire :-)
Best song in their catalog{#Bananajam}
In my opinion Love Shack is the worst song ever. Bar-none, hands-down, violent and visceral reaction, Voldermort could use it as a curse, WINNER.

Thank you for playing Planet Claire instead...
Cant believe this is only rated 7.1. B52s are brilliant, esp this song {#Dancingbanana_2}{#Dancingbanana}
We saw them at a twilight concert at a winery up in the Hunter Valley during the summer of 2012, they were just fantastic, so much fun and energy.
{#Dancingbanana}{#Dancingbanana}

Bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce...  how can you not be happy when you hear this.  bounce bounce bounce bounce

Inside of the first 5 seconds of this song, it's a 10.  B-52s are the genuine 'nads.

I don’t do dancing, but if I did, this song would be the one I’d do it to!

Yeah baby, stellar and timeless!!! You go Bill!!
NO SHE ISN"T!!!

always cracks me up...
Guilty pleasure? Maybe. Don't care. Love it. Headphones high!

still miss Ricky...
The year: 1979
I saw the B52's open for the Talking Heads at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas.
The most outrageously fun concert I have ever been to.
There is no second really.
It was just that damn good!

how much fun and joy can man put in a song, sooo good for your mood! This makes me happy:-)
needs to be really loud...
Still easily by far one of the best beginnings of any song to come along...love all the ZINGERS Fred throws in this one...and the wickedly perfect guitar work!  I still get the chills at all the same parts.  How cool is that?!  Truly, a rock-solid one for the Ages!
30 years on and it's still fun.

Don't get much better than this!!!
