She came from Planet Claire
I knew she came from there
She drove a Plymouth Satellite
Faster than the speed of light
Planet Claire has pink air
All the trees are red
No one ever dies there
No one has a head
Ahhhahhhahhahh
Some say she's from Mars
Or one of the seven stars
That shine after 3:30 in the morning
WELL SHE ISN'T
Ahhhahhhahhahhahhahh
The base line is a complete rip off (or homage) to the Henry Mancini theme song to the 1960s show Peter Gunn.
Kate Pierson plays the synth bass for the B-52's. I'm sure it's total homage but with a very lighthearted intent. I mean, just look at that red wig she's wearing on the cover!
Saw the B-52's in about 1984. Excellent concert. (The late) Ricky Wilson was a surprisingly good guitarist.
You could have just shrugged and spared us the drama.
Well, he didn't!
WELL, SHE ISN'T!!!!!! (ahem. Just had to say that.)
Still one of the best lines...any song, anywhere
"Some say she's from Mars
Or one of the seven stars
That shine after 3:30 in the morning
WELL SHE ISN'T"
And he SCREAMS it. Like, "Get it right dudes. She's from planet Claire!"
Love these guys. One of my favorite bands. Unique, unusual, creative, out of the world.!! Saw them at Fiddler's Green in Denver and as expected, kicked ass. Took my 12 year old daughter for her first concert.
Public Service Announcement: Please pay for RP. Send them $5 a month or MORE. I give and we should all do so. Nothing stays free. Support Radio Paradise. (I'm not paid to say this, just a fan, who pays for you to enjoy).
I completely "Second" this - what the Priest said!
40 yrs ago or so I had a very narrow mind concerning music. Now, I wish I had seen them. Off the wall fun I bet! Gratefully my taste grew as I did. Started listening to RP in '05 I believe... nothing compares... I'm Grateful Bill and Rebecca
I just bumped this to Outstanding.
Garyalex, you've got a point since the B-52's always went for pure science and realism.
Stay well, my friend!
You're right. The B52's paper on the possible effects of dark matter on galactic lensing is well-known in cosmological circles. And you stay well also.
Love Shack is the least of their songs. Do a deep dive on their early stuff if you like this one. Quiche Lorraine is how I got my kid hooked on the B-52s.
Don't forget Rock Lobster & Private Idaho - Great stuff!
Each rating is in its own relative space. It's an 8 because Dance This Mess Around is a 10. This isn't as good as that so it has to be 8. Compared to other songs that I've rated 8, it might be better, but we can't make that adjustment because it would force some songs down that deserve to be 8 on their own separate scale. It's complicated.
Love Shack on the other hand makes my teeth itch.

god this is awful
Apparently, masonatlas reconsidered and deleted his post.
I know what you did last summer

great line. Delivered perfectly!
No they were not under rated. They were rated just fine, as in, AWESOME! Not sure where you live that enables you to determine for all of us whether they were under rated or not.
I agree very awesome forgot too add that, have always loved them

This song is classic.... Always reminds me of Claire and how popular she was ;-)
Are you suggesting that that's a bad combination?
One of their best, IMO, but the top spot probably goes to Rock Lobster. Different strokes, tho.
Nah. Dance This Mess Around. 100%
Yes, Boring, Oregon. It is located east of Portland.

I remember dancing to the B52's in high school! I feel so fortunate to have experienced my youth then with music like this...so much fun! :)
You could have just shrugged and spared us the drama.
WELL, SHE ISN'T!!!
To Boring you will go, to Boring you will go...
Good call, this is my favorite B52s track too. Ricky was the man!

Boring?!?
Lighten up, Francis.
I love Shakespeare, but I'm not so exalted that I can't laugh at the damned Flintstones occasionally.
Sometimes musicians do things for a reason.
Just sayin'

Note that none of their equipment is plugged in!
I don’t do dancing, but if I did, this song would be the one I’d do it to!
Amen....When I dance I usually fall over. This is good listening to start the day in Florida.
You sound like a tremendous bore.
Anyone who doesn't want to bop their head and move their booty to this song is hereby banned from my kitchen. Go be boring elsewhere.

Really, I was having a problem with how much I liked her. I liked her a lot. And it overwhelmed me and I drove her away rather than deal with it.
So, when I hear the B52's, it reminds me how life is short and you'd best grab every chance that steps in front of you.
Do all 16 dances.
you were a damn fool ...
There is no second place.
I am really sorry I missed that one.
Indeed it does!

This song is soooo good it puts a spring in my step this spring night...
this song is the first song on the B-52's eponymous debut album in 1979... the song that follows this one on the album is one of my absolute favorites called "52 Girls" and it fracking rocks... every song on the debut album is fantastic...
Let me try again—

always cracks me up...
Man, it's hard to believe he checked out almost 28 years ago. I always liked the pink coat (real or not) on the 1st album cover.
I love the album as well, especially "Dance this Mess Around". Fracking A!
I agree... hope you are having a marvelous time right this minute...
this is a great song from an incredible album...
still miss Ricky...
I saw the B52's open for the Talking Heads at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas.
The most outrageously fun concert I have ever been to.
There is no second really.
It was just that damn good!
