A day once dawned from the ground
Then the night she fell and the air was beautiful
The night she fell all around
So look, see the days
The endless coloured ways
And go play the game that you learned
From the morning
And now we rise and we are everywhere
And now we rise from the ground
And see she flies, and she is everywhere
See she flies all around
So look, see the sights
The endless summer nights
And go play the game that you learned
From the morning
Let's Eat Grandma released a cover of this - as a single I think - in 2023. It's excellent too.
That's what I said - "influence on Glen Hansard."
Memo to self - remember your spectacles!
Pretty sure it's Nick Drake influencing Glen Hansard.

I can hear the influence on Glen Hansard in this one. I could listen to Nick Drake all day and never get tired of him.

That may be the reason I always skip his songs as fast as I can. Not that I think they're bad, just something inside of me feels unexplainably alarmed in a really unsettling way. Anyway, thanks for providing a possible explanation to this!
I also read somewhere that he never showed anyone how he tuned his guitar and no one has been able to duplicate. I'm not a musician so this may be off.
There were several other folk musicians in the early '70s who attained similar sounds to this; especially artists who worked with this producer and engineer, such as John Martyn and Fairport Convention. It also has a lot to do with how Drake plucked and strummed the strings. Recording techniques today are quite different, even for acoustic guitar stuff, so I don't know if someone like LaMontagne could truly replicate the sound, even if he wanted to..
Great segue. First get me thinking of Nick Drake on a cover then pull out another Drake song. Excellent!
Did it again today. Nice job Bill
Everybody in my churches loves this song...
..hope yer church carries on..
This album was one of my little guy's lullaby cds for a long time.... it works wonders, and I mean that with all respect and appreciation.

I like when RP educates me as to where these 'commercial' songs originate!
If only there were more love to go 'round...
Agreed.
Not enough painted covers like this these days.

All rights reserved:-) yes, I love this city, still with all its troubles, noises, pollution and conflicts.. I was born and I've grown up here
Just did and erased comment! ;-)
I insist: all the music is world music.. there's not such a genre as "world music", unless we want to mean "rest of the world" music
Felix, you probably won't see this, but I think Kazuma was being sarcastic......Nick Drake's music is effortlessly beautiful.

Please play Pink Moon, soon!?!
(While reaching for the p, to spell pink, I hit the o. Guess what that spells? If you only knew how long I've been typing my way through this life, and it's the first time that that ever happened.)
