I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball
Oh I had a million dollars but I'd, I'd spent it all
If I could find that Heina, and that Sancho that she's found
Well I'd pop a cap in Sancho, and I'd slap her down

What I really wanna know, ah, baby, mmm
What I really wanna say, I can't define
Well, it's love, that I need, oh!

My soul will have to
Wait till I get back, find a Heina of my own
Daddy's gonna love one and all
I feel the break, feel the break, feel the break
And I gotta live it up, oh yeah, huh, well I swear that I

What I really wanna know, my baby, mmm-hmm
What I really wanna say, I can't define
Back, love, make it go
My soul will have to

Ooh, what I really wanna say, my baby
What I really wanna say, is I've got mine
And I'll make it, yes I'm coming up
Tell Sanchito, that if he knows what is good for him, he best go run and hide
Daddy's got a new forty-five
And I won't think twice to stick that barrel straight down Sancho's throat
Believe me when I say that I got something for his punk ass

What I really wanna know, my baby
Ooh, what I really wanna say is there's just one
Way back, and I'll make it, yeah
My soul will have to wait
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Never thought I'd say this here but, "this is horrible". Won't even rate it as I never rate songs negatively ( I may have once or twice but I've been here for quite a while.

It was a fun goof Back In The Day but 27 years later it still feels overplayed.
Dodgy lyrics?

The bassline in this song is underrated.  It's very subtle, but if you listen closely, he's doing some pretty smooth stuff.

What a fun song! Always gets me and whomever else is around into a sing-along frenzy. Forever reminds me of being on vacation from Japan in a pub at Seal Beach when it came out. The Japanese gals I was with really got into it too. 'PARTY GONE WILD' TUNE!

Your stories are always great. Thank You for sharing them!

I don't think you're picking up what I'm putting down. The songs are full of misogynies, patriarchy, gang violence but also love, caring, angst, and agony. They just wrote what they lived with all the bad and good that came with it. Long Beach was a tough place in the 90s.

You bet! I am GLAD  that I was not there!  GOOD TUNE! in spite of that.  Thanx RP!
too much drama in the LBC?

Sublime is much more complex than that. Sublime's lyrics and melding of musical styles provides a rich, complex, and often contradictory insight into the youth culture of LA/Long Beach at the time. The socialogical views embeded in it shed light on interesting dichotomies that exist for many of todays kids/young adults. You could make an entire college course out of analyzing the themes presented in their music and how it reflects upon our society at large.

Plus, they're a great band.
this is what we need for this saturday afternoon in aug 2022:

peppy music

The comments for this track and the newly associated "thumbs" bring to mind a truism that I find since RP has switched to this "liking" system after the launch of the newer site. Positive comments, no matter how vapid, rise to the top with all the likes. Negative comments, no matter the level of critism, get thumb downed into oblivion. Personally, I prefer having some discourse...a discussion about the song and/or artist. I'd gladly do away with the "liking" of comments as I think its destroyed the flavour of these boards. Or at the very least allow for a default of "by newest"....

Oh yeah, I'm sure this is going to get pushed down the board since I didn't just say, "this is the best band ever, too bad about Bradley..."

and there it is, a week later, down voted cause I deigned to suggest that not all is rosy in RP land...

I don't care. As long as the negative comments aren't nasty or obscene! Everybody has different tastes, and a right to an opinion. And, people have different ways of communicating their views. Some brief & some engage in a long discourse!
Great!! Overplayed on the radio, but still great.  Even better NOW in FLAC w/ great studio phones, amp & DAC!  Thanx RP!

This song never gets old; play it among young new friends and co-workers and let them see you gettin' into it -- then we get to remind them that WE GOT TO JAM IT AS IT HAPPENED! and they were latecomers to the party, and then just about when they start to rise to the chance to be offended -- and why is everyone nowadays walking around looking for an excuse, any excuse, to get offended?! -- we get to break into song again with yet another impeccably genius, passion-filled Sublime line or refrain. Truly, they seemed like a band destined for a good run, but...heavier drugs take heavier tolls, unfortunately...

I got you perfectly brother, I also lived in that geographic area in the early/ mid 90s, and know exactly the dichotomy of which you speak.
"The West is the Best" is a Jim "Lizardking " Morrison reference to me lol
Long Live RP!!

Great stuff - even if they are playing on stolen gear from the Rodney King Riots - hope they paid the guitar shop back

Yeah, another Sublime on RP!
One of the most overrated bands of the period.

What is this drivel?!!

If ever a song needed Autotune...
I kind of like this funky, off-center groove.

it ain't slick and over-produced.

Nice simple hooks.

Makes ya  want to sing along a little.
.

It seemed like I was always on the fence about the "mid-90's California hipster ska-punk revival".  Still am.

I don't think I could hate Sublime any more than I already do. Ugh...

Yikes
Makes me want to wring a chicken's neck.
Ah, part of the soundtrack of my youth. Lovely to hear it here. :)

The fact that commercial FM has overplayed this band to death makes this a poor fit for RP. Nope, don't like it. Not one bit. Nope.

"Eclectic" doesn't mean "not played on commercial radio". There's quite a bit of stuff played on here that can be heard on commercial radio...the fact that the song also fits the format of your local ClearChannel station doesn't discount the merits of the music. Either the song is good, or it isn't.

Anyway, just my two cents...

I don't get why this song is held in such high regard amongst Sublime fans. It's mediocre at best. I love Sublime, but this is one of the crappiest songs they ever did.

Hmm...I'm completely opposite of you. This is my favorite song of theirs. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Its one of the more accessible songs for a wide audience. The singing seems a bit off key at moments but the un-sterile nature of the band is one of the smaller things that made them appealing. (Unfortunately local radio has played this one to death)

Would like to vote 1 multiple times. Tuneless, offensive, bad singing. Drum the only good thing. None of those guys in the band would exist without a woman. An unfortunate one, perhaps, but one who suffered so that they might be born. How easily they ignore that.
The fact that commercial FM has overplayed this band to death makes this a poor fit for RP. Nope, don\'t like it. Not one bit. Nope.
Sublime is full of FUN music and like nook, I was really sad to find out there would be no more. They covered so many diferent styles of music. I have sooo many memories cooking in my restaurant blaring there music. What a waste If I had a board (or lived by some surf) I\'d go wax too.
just another reason why i hate drugs with a passion. an overdose silenced this group forever by taking out the lead bubba. too sad. these guys were on their way, and songs like this show the cohesiveness and ability that was going to take them to the top. bummer, think i\'ll go wax my board.
More like ridiculous.
Wow a song that my brother likes on RP. Very very rarely does that happen. And I like it too. :)
Sucko-barfo commercial radio crap. Doesn\'t belong on your fine playlist.
Thank you for playing this great song from their monumental self-titled album. Sublime had honed their craft and style to artistic perfection by the time they recorded this. It\'s a pity it was to be the last thing they would ever record.
