On candystripe legs the spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly!
A movement in the corner of the room!
And there is nothing I can do
When I realise with fright
That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!
Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
"Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight"
And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold
And the spiderman is always hungry...
Would have been a 10 without the 7½ minutes of bell torture in the right speaker.
I gave it a 5.
yeye, one of those instances where once you heard something, you'll never be able to unhear it; have loved this song as longs as it exists and only now that you mention it..... Wouldn't call it torture though, to me it has more of rain dripleaking into a pan effect, i think i could actually fall asleep to it. Still a great song

Your right ear must be oversensitive. Maybe get that checked out? Sounds awesome to me!
I gave it a 5.
9 for the original, solid 7 for this verion IMO.
Such a creepy song - pun not intended.
A solid 9 though.
Is this a song or noise from a road construction project? Sounds like a pile driver on a construction site. Bang. bang, bang.
Ahem. I think it's rimshots on a tightly tuned snare drum with the snare disengaged. Sometimes, if the drumhead is pulled really tight, a solid, quick stick-strike can produce the same "WHACK" sound as a rimshot.
The follow-up song today (Nowhere Again, Secret Machines) has a similar sound throughout.
I look back at the 'boring tracks' comments and smile.
I got hooked on this & The Cure while riding a mountain bike in the desert for hours. Yes it's a mix but I could pedal for hours...
Officially the most boring of the Cure cuts. Blame the mix
Good choice after Pink Floyd's Echoes, RP!
I was thinking "How do they follow this one?". Perfect choice again, RP folks xx
Wow, I've been quite excited about going to Tuscanny someday, but NOW?!?!
Ever been to Nepal?
There are some large ones there....
From mid-January to mid-April of 2005, I rented an ancient two-story stone farmhouse in the hills of Monte Amiata, Tuscany. There are two things in amazing abundance in Tuscany no matter the season, I discovered: cats, and SPIDERS. I appreciate the fact that spiders can dispose of an impressive amount of little crawly critters I don't have time to mess around with, but...when I find mouse-sized wolf spiders everywhere I look every time I go into the bathroom, and when I have to curse and wince every time I go through a doorway because I am running into brand-new tangles of webs dangling there even though I just ripped them all down not long before, well, it all gets a bit too creepy. Unlike insects, arthropods are relatively unaffected by cold. Nor were they the slightest bit afraid of me. They were firmly and resolutely established, everywhere I looked, in vast numbers. It was already rather disturbing. Then, when I began to warm the place by firing up the wood-stoves and kitchen fireplace-oven, and all the pillbugs, beetles, and even little black scorpions that had gone to sleep under the tiles of the roof and woodshed started coming down and out of the walls, and clambering all up and down the stairs, well, that bonanza of bugs sure got all those spiders even more mobilized and energized, and made them visible 24/7. Some nights, it was difficult to turn the lights off and let myself fall asleep, if you know what I mean. This song was played often on the Radio Roma station I was able to pull in, and has always had a very special, haunting meaning for me since then... Lullaby, indeed!
Wow, I've been quite excited about going to Tuscanny someday, but NOW?!?!
If it hasn't been stated already, I thought the first three or four notes were a rip off from the song Shout by Tears for Fears, now I find the Shout song was released in 1994 so THEY did a bit of a rip off it seems.
Similar tempo, two similar chords. I mean.....
TFF Shout was 1984, not 94, and Lullaby originally appeared in '89 on Disintegration.
Songs from the Big Chair (which includes Shout) was released in the UK in November 1984.
Don't know about ripping off notes, but TFF was earlier by some 5 years
Hey cjohn, years ago some pals and I were in the Belize Jaguar Preserve where we stayed in a small cinder-block building, a doorless, window-free, hut where we slept in mosquito-tented hammocks. There were lots of bugs in every crevice, including large long-tailed spiders, scorpions, even tiny bats! anyway, one morning I wake up early to do the coffee and had to shake the bag of filters to get rid of the ants streaming into it, "little fuckers...", hey man, they're in the water bottle, shit ...hey get these things out of my shorts! WHAT THE FUCK!!! There was a writhing pile of little reddish ants roiling around EVERYTHING! "Yo wake up there's an invasion man!!!" they were now crawling up and down the walls, the strings to the hammocks, every one of our bags, our piles of clothes, man in minutes the entire floor of the little shack was black with throbbing piles of ants! we went out the door where you could see an inch wide stream of high-speed little buggers relentlessly directed into the shack, they were coming from the thick bushes about 10 yards away, the thick bobbing line of them looking like a stream of little rolling blackish red ball-bearings spilling out of the jungle and into the hut, Holy Fuck! Another line of them started coming out of the hut, heading back into the bush, on the top of the stream now were the spiders, the scorpions, moths, crickets, a fuckin mouse! they as a team held aloft little bits of whatever to bring back into their kingdom, back to their ant hill, the whole thing lasted like 20 minutes
whoa they were awesome : )
Best story I've read this morning! Thanks!

Holy Christ!
Sexy? You might want to read the lyrics again.
There are several theories as to what this song is about. Smith himself has even hinted at a few different meanings to these lyrics.
"...While Smith most often attributes "Lullaby" to childhood nightmares, fans have speculated that it's actually a metaphor for everything from depression to addiction and abuse. The latter interpretation was further fueled by a portion of an MTV interview where Smith talks about the song.'One particular night, my uncle burst through the window, and he did unspeakable things,' said Smith, before adding with a laugh, 'He didn't really.'"
That incessant hammering is why I dislike this song.

Agreed!
This is the ‘extended mix’ which probably means as much as ‘throw some extra crap in there, like way too many percussion sounds’. I think this version is played too often, the original is way better.
Now three........
I quite like the song, but your comment brought a smile to my face.
Thanks.
me too and I like the song a lot..

We may disagree about this song, but we agree about His Noodly Appendage.

Good luck making the R&R Hall of Fame, Cure!!!
This song is just one of many that have certainly earned you the title!
...and his tongue in my eyes!
I'm too. But I love this album because «Mixed Up» first I've heard from Cure.
Same here...my first encounter with the music, so naturally, my favorite.
