I did a little checking, and believe it or not, it's Cliff Hugo from Supertramp.

Cool!  What was he playing?  A Chapman Stick?

My guess is he's using a Stick.

It could be a Chapman Stick.  I have worked with several bands that used them.

SUPERB!!!  I never heard of them before.  Thanx RP!

I think it's either an fretless electric or electric upright variant.

Thanks, my friend.  You're creeping me out a bit, though.  I used to drive a maroon Toyota Camry, which used to go round corners scraping its sills on the road.  Plus, my dad was born in October 1908 ....  My granddaughter was born on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Lobo hangs out in the Mexican town where I live.  Awesome talent!  Thanks, Bill!

I completely agree. Saw them In Puerto Vallerta about 15 years ago and have seem them three or 4 times since and they're simply fantastic.

In fact, I have this CD signed by them from seeing them in PV.

For some reason had my pea-sized  brain harking back to Cat Steven's Lady D'Arbanville (1970 - boy have I gotten old!)

Me likee!

I'll have to be on the lookout for this group... never heard of them before but this piece puts them on the map for me.
Very nice of them to remember my full name for the album....   {#High-five}
Reminds me of a great sailing trip around the islands of Hawai'i.  {#Cool}
Nice tune for a frigid winter's day ... {#Sunny}

These guys are the best! Had front row seats to see them at the Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA, a tiny, old-fashioned opera house. We enjoyed it so much that a year later we took the kids down to Puerto Vallarta this past December to catch their New Year's Eve show at the River Cafe. Again, outstanding! I'd have to say "Caliente" is my favorite CD of theirs, though we own them all.

Ibid, although it's now three years later!

There's a spaghetti western in here somewhere.
Maybe 1993-94-time is elastic in memory- The Gypsy Kings- CD stuck in the deck in my favorite cafe in Heidelberg Germany- actually boycotted the place for months.

Oh no! Is there any such thing as Ricardo Montalban? Even if not, you gotta admit- that sounded really cool when he said it. JerseeeGirl wrote:

Now *this* is how to express a dislike of a song. Not the typical attack seen we've far too frequently.

I remember hearing this for the first time in Puerto Vallarta watching the Spanish galleon sailing in front of the Malicon at sunset. Pure bliss.

Me too. Had it on vinyl. Need to replace it with the CD if it's available....
I'm a fool for gypsy music- now how about Al Dimeola's "Mediterranean Sundance?"
Why do I have the urge to go fight a bull?
I LOVE Willie and Lobo. :) The one CD I had of theirs was Puerto Valliarta Squeeze...(based supposedly on the book by that name...the book sucked but the CD rocked.) This is not one of my favorites of theirs but it's definatly good. :)
Reminds me of Chick Corea's Spain.

Part of me wants this song to have some Elizabethan poetry or somthin' (like Tenyson or Browning) -- in fact some of E. Browning's "Sonnets from the Portuguese" would fit quite well. I dunno -- I'm crazy.
Hey, me too. Except that those you mention were Victorian poets. FWIW. Cool track.

No you aren't. I was seeing a black and white animation of a bull fighting sequence with a little red blood thrown in for drama at the appropriate times. But now that you mention "Sonnets from the Portuguese" that does seem to fit quite well. And is rather less disturbing.
