In the bosom of europa
Little liza was caressed
By the music of the angels
Playing underneath her dress
She saw the great caruso
And that's when she fell in love
She'd think of him as elvis
If she knew who elvis was
Spinning round and round
You can hear her moan
She's all by herself
But she's not alone
Wonderful things happen to me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
Wonderful wave - wash over me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
By the shores of the gitchee goomee
She was floating on her bed
She was deaming of al jolson
And what she thought he said
He was looking in the mirror
He was putting on the paint
Said the hardest thing about this job
Is being what you ain't
Just an old white man
In a strange new world
Can you come out tonight
Little buffalo girl
Wonderful things happen to me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
Wonderful wave - wash over me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
From the loins of the liberace
Sprang a million little tunes
And they whirled around eliza
Like so many little moons
Every jewel held a secret
Every flourish held a clue
As he held her in a rapture
Singing I'll be seeing you
Wonderful things happen to me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
Wonderful wave - wash over me
Whenever I sing that white man's melody
Little liza was caressed

"Gitche Gumee" is the Ojibwa name for Lake Superior. It literally translates to “big, great sea.”

I was thinking Mike Campbell.
First few notes had me checking if this was Sonny Landreth.. alas no. Not bad Cyndi, but I DARE them to use this exact one a pharmaceutical ad.
Oh, no Sounds like Cyndi is channeling her inner Yoko at the end of the tune.

And 15 years earlier she had just about the biggest hit in the history of recorded music with 'Girls just wanna have fun' !
I think it's a safe bet that her phone no longer 'rings in the middle of the night.'

Never heard this much soulful blues from Cyndi! Was never a fan but this ROCKS! Love it.
Was hearing "Wonderful" as "WTF" before I saw the lyrics.
Great stuff

Cyndi is cooking with gas.
WHAT THE WHAT?!? This is AMAZING!
edit: Well, maybe not those vocal gymnastics at the end, but whatever. Cyndi can do as she pleases!

Funny. Was gonna ask if this was Stevie Nicks ................ Nevermind. Cyndi Lauper can do whatever she wants. Not bad.

I liked it up to the point where she broke into a Yoko Ono imitation.

Lauper has become a fabulous blues artist. I recommend her recent solo material.
Just a little bit, erm, dreary.

"From the loins of Liberace"? What the....???

Too bad her goofiness in the 80s effectively prevented audiences from taking her seriously, because Lauper has a great voice. I might also add that I saw her interviewed recently and she has aged quite gracefully.
Right on! She's a fine singer.

if the leather cub I happened to be waiting for when I posted that had shown up looking like early Cindy ! with or without a bodywax.
I can relate to a hot and joyfully low-down sister
cause I'm in touch with my own inner slut
I love me some Cyndi.

I\'ve seen Cyndi do many guest appearances and think she\'s just fantastic and talented. Met her back in the 80\'s in Daytona where I was bartending at the Plaza Hotel.
Thiis is great stuff....TY RP

Irka, if you're still looking for it, I bought it at a Chapters in Toronto.

Btw, I think, at least a song like Time After Time is a very nice classic (Miles Davis even covered it!)
Yes. Yes, he did.
In one of the most bizarre A&R moves in the history of the record business.
That cover actually got Miles added to the rotation of at least one major market Easy Listening station in the mid-80s.
I know this for a fact 'cause I was doing time there when it happened. Highly weird.

i agree, "time after time" was a great song. by the way, wasn't it the hooters who backed her up on her first l.p.? of course that could be bad if you didn't like the hooters.
isn\'t she white?
Dot
That\'s cyndi Lauper !!
Wow, I would never have known,
I always think of the girls just wanna crap
Wow, Cyndi Lauper sounds great! This is the first time hearing this & it makes me want to hear more.

Nice,
Cindy\'s voice and the guitar underneath create the perfect tension throughout the song.
As somebody here mentioned, too bad her WWF and cheesy 80\'s pop days will alway overshadow how really talented she is. I heard her do this accapella thing in the studio at a local radio station... absolutely amazing.
This is a great track. ;)
