I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy, you don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting, even though I know I should

The cold is biting through each and every nerve and fiber
My broken spirit is frozen to the core
I don't want to be here no more

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away

Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care

You must be joking, you don't know a thing about it
You've got no problem, I'd stay right there if I were you
I got it harder, you couldn't dream how hard I got it
Stay out of my shoes if you know what's good for you

The heat is stifling, burning me up from the inside
The sweat is coming through each and every pore
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away, ooh

Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
The grass is always greener over there
And wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care

I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy, you don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting, even though I know I should

Dont think it is - think its the b-side to the UK Single of Somebody Loves You - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

CD Single (UK Part 1)"Somebody Loves You" (Single Edit) - 3:59"Wouldn't It Be Good" ('99 Acoustic)
As far as I can tell that version's not on any album - tho I did read here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?... that its a hidden track on presumably the vinyl version of 15 minutes. This version - https://www.youtube.com/watch?... seems to confirm it's on the single and not any digital version of 15 minutes

Edit - also here - https://soundcloud.com/ecousti...
Desperately (alright, too much drama) but trying to find this version.
The 2019 live version on YouTube is over the top good
Gotta turn this up ...every time.
Great stuff.

Bumping (meatmike had 41 upvotes as of this) - because meatmike nailed it.

Welcome to the Bad Karaoke Bar
great song, simple, penetrating!

and that is a fabulous album in itself. (Have A Nice LIfe has me in tears everytime)
This is one of those songs that makes me think, "I ought to learn that and play it sometime."
A lot of my friends think he was a one hit wonder.  I listen to to "15 Minutes" and "To be Frank" albums a lot. There are some other good tunes on them.

WoundedHave a Nice Life and What do you think of it so far  are all really good tunes.
It's great to hear an old song reworked.    This is the first time I really appreciated this song....
Great acoustic take but I still prefer the electric full band version with the killer synth bass.  Just sayin' ...

Could not agree more - I loved the 80s album - brings back the walkman memories

If you like this, you should definitely listen to Kershaw's "Oxygen":

Nik Kershaw - Oxygen
This number is okay, but I like the electric version more.
This one always picks me up😎

what a great song, I discovered it just recently on a new album released by Cliff Hillis. If you like this, check it out, there are horns!
2 tracks ago it was "Cold. Cold. Cold" by Cage the Elephant, and I thought, if I was Bill I'd follow that one with this one. And here it is.
One of those album covers you wonder, what were they thinking?
Remember cunning chord changes in pop music?
My friend and I were just discussing this song, 13 minutes ago.. and you played it?!  Love this station!
Nicely maturing musician.
Love Nik's 80s stuff, but when he suddenly returned to the (small) spotlight in 1998 with the album "15 Minutes" I couldn't believe how good a singer-songwriter he really is.

Saw him on his tour back then and afterwards he came out to chat.
Excellent guy!
some people think he was a 1 hit wonder.

all his albums are good in my opinion
I remember this !!!
I loved the original and still do... I seem to be the only one here to not enjoy this version as much?

It's not a cover - he wrote it.
Nice version!
As an 80s kid and keyboard lover I'm really into his inventive 80s stuff.... but when he came back as a singer-songwriter with "15 MINUTES" I totally fell in love with his new stuff as well.

So, Bill - give us something from 15 MINUTES please ;)
I may be crazy but the delivery of "Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes" sounds a lot like "What if I were Romeo in black jeans" from No Myth by Michael Penn.
I really like this version of the song and wanted to purchase for my very own self. Alas, it's not available anywhere. I tried the link here on RP and it took me to the dreaded "Uh-oh, something went wrong" page on Amazon. I searched for it on Amazon and you have to buy the whole CD for $44.
Sorry, I don't like it that much.
Helo time travellers, could someone go back and just delete the whole "unplugged" thing please, it was all a horrible mistake.

Maybe it helps that this is just a different version of the song. It's his song, so not a cover, ya dig? :)

That's enough about you.
Nik Kershaw is a very good songwriter indeed, and a pretty tasty guitarist.  I've seen him a couple of times, and have all his records.  Great to see him on RP.  I would recommend the album Fifteen Minutes - some fantastic songs.

Think Bill EQs the bass on many (most? / all?) of the songs played here

Easy to confirm somethings different -  if you play something you have in your collection, straight after hearing it here - my opinion is the RP version usually sounds better...

Seems this is on 15 Minutes instead of To Be Frank

Divine.  I love this song in its original release, but this takes it to a new level.
Wow. Never heard this before. Immediately rated an 8. Maybe going up if I hear it again.
Wow. I've seen references to this version in comments on the original (which I love) but hadn't heard before now. This is beautiful. I've always loved the discordance and odd syncopation of the original and appreciated the lyrics - but this drives the meaning and emotion to the fore. Rather nicely done Mr K.
The subtlest yodeller
Love this version!
Man, if the song did not bring back some memories in its original form,,, this version, with so much more feeling ,, is bringing me to my knees.
Never cared for the original, but really love this version.  So much emotion, vs. the original with the dead robot voice.
Never stopped to listen much to Nik Kershaw other than this song, but then I heard him sing "The Lamia" live with Steve Hackett from Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" and I was blown away. Great talent.
More NIK KERSHAW!!!

Lost genius artist !!!
Bill - you have the wrong album cover. This is a bonus track on "15 Minutes" (1999).

I own the album shown - "To Be Frank" - which is really quite a good album - and this from someone who preferred Howard Jones to Nik back in the day.

OK, guilty as charged. I have very eclectic music tastes, which is why I'm here ... {#Notworthy}
Nik Kershaw is one of life's gems.
"Bumping this to a 9. Better than the original version."

I have to agree! A classic song, covered better than the original by the original artist...
Not usually big on covers but this one is nice. A solid 7.
very nice !
Nice version, he did well in this work./

Love a bit of Nik.

Nik Kershaw is the sort of performer that I disliked in the 1980's and 1990's but actually when you listen to this song in it's acoustic guise with an objective mind... it is somebody who wrote a catchy tune, has reasonably meaningful lyrics, he can sing and I presume that is him playing the guitar.  Actually I would be happy to have achieved any one of those things :)

Never heard of this guy before - one of the great things about RP.
Your comment was likable, the song more so.

Bumping this to a 9. Better than the original version.

That says something to me. When covers or acoustic version surpass the original that means that there is more going on in that song than what is apparent on the surface. The previous song, Thunderstruck is a perfect example. Every cover I've heard so far is better than the original. Then again, I don't care for AC/DC since Bon Scott died. So there's that.
Damn, that cover photo looks like Leonard Cohen in a Hall of Mirrors.
Ick.  I need to go have a wash and get all the Kershaw off me.

Audiences, such as yourself at the time, thought critics had overrated Nik Kershaw. In retrospect, we were wrong; the critics were right. Nik was an under-appreciated talent that we never knew and wish we had.

Me too! But I'd prefer the "classic" version.

Add my name to that minority.  I like this song.
woldn't it be good if this song had never been performed?

Bit better than the original, very-80s hit version, but still only passable...
Interesting but I only want to hear it about once every six months... and a bit too long, lost interest by the time I had finished writing this.

Does anyone else hear a little Stevie Wonder in the vocals?
Even though RP is defined by undefinable eclecticism...., this song still does not fit the mold.  Too poppy..., and he admits it himself..., He has it bad...
This was a very frustrating song to listen too.{#Doh}
Reminds me of something off the Dan Fogelberg Greatest Hits Album.  Uggg.

The lexical description of Sucko-Barfo.
Holy weird chords, Batman. This one is hard to learn.
He gets a real Stevie Wonder thing going there, especially in this version.

Totally different flavor than the original, but I still love it.
my god.  this floored me.  I had never heard this version.  what a great surprise for a rainy sunday.

Why would it be good if it wasn't played again?  You haven't given any constructive criticism; this is a quite interesting tune, and comes over well acoustically.  I'm not a fan of Nik Kershaw, but really - be fair!  This acoustic version is well played, and very pleasant,

Wouldn't it be good if this wasn't played again.
Wasn't this on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack? By Danny Hutton Hitters? But this is a good version.
Are you kidding with this ? I prefer.."wouldn't it be nice to hit you with your shoe....
Trite lyrics.
Not nearly as good as original. Acoustic hardly ever is.

Wow! That was excellent! Without a doubt my favorite Nik Kershaw tune, and that was an excellent version!
Ok - and I'm all about acoustic music - but I like the original better. Would probably be better with some harmony vocals.
kinda whiney

I dig this a lot (8). Quite nice--I like it better than the original. That doesn't happen very often.

Hm, this song is absolutely _nothing_ without the typical 80's-style of music and instruments.
It\'s too... too... Blessed Union of Souls-ish. Yuck.
Oh man, I\'ve never heard this and it just makes me desperately long for the original. That\'s one of my favorite songs of the very wacky and prolific early 80\'s.

How can this be an "acoustic" version when he's using an electronic drum machine?
He released two albums fairly recently, then swore off of releasing them due to lack of good reception. There were a few really good songs on them though, in my opinion. I will be uploading some of them soon. It looks as though there might be a few new songs in the works for a new "greatest Hits" type release. He also swore he'd never be a part of a 80's concert tour, but now it looks like he broke down. He prolly needs some money. https://www.nikkershaw.net/

the acoustic version is way better than the electronic :)
The lyrics miss for me. Yeah, this song sucks

LOL. Exactly what I was about to say. The original was better. This one is OK. Set list in general this morning has been a solid OK.
I miss the swingin\' horns from the original.
Knowing the original version, this, funny enough, sounds like a pre-production of that one. A lot less catchy, though I like the more intimate atmosphere.
This is the kind of song that depending on my mood it could really annoy me, or I could dig it. Right now, I\'m really digging it!

a good song made better by a slower, less \"studioed\" treatment then is normally the case...where do you guys keep finding all this great stuff?
Yuck.
A version I\'ve never heard of an old favorite of mine. Oooooo!
It\'s hard to say which one I prefer, but my one of my personal benchmarks of a decent pop song is when you can play it without a studio set up and full band and it still sounds good. This one qualifies for me.
Very nice - I also like the original studio version. But I really enjoy hearing how the artist plays his song in it\'s simple/basic form... as in when he was composing it.
Seems like we\'re having a Nik Kershaw revival on this station. This is the third song of his I\'ve heard in the last couple of months. Nice to rediscover a really fun musician.
