Oh, people look around you
The signs are everywhere
You left it for somebody other than you
To be the one to care
You're lost inside your houses
There's no time to find you now
Oh, your walls are burning and your towers are turning
I'm gonna leave you here and try to get down to the sea somehow
The road is filled with homeless souls
Every woman child and man
Who have no idea where they will go
But they'll help you if they can
Now everyone must have some thought
That's gonna pull them through somehow
Well the fires are raging hotter and hotter
But the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
Rock me on the water
Sister, will you soothe my fevered brow?
Rock me on the water
I'll get down to the sea somehow
Oh, people look among you
It's there your hope must lie
There's a seabird above you gliding in one place
Like Jesus in the sky
We all must do the best we can
And then hang onto that gospel plow
When my life is over, gonna stand before the father
But the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
Rock me on the water
Sister, will you soothe my fevered brow?
Yeah, rock me on the water
Then maybe I'll remember, maybe I'll remember how
Rock me on the water
The wind is with me now
I said, "Rock me on the water"
I'll get down to the sea somehow
Rock me on the water
Rock me now
Rock me on the water
Rock me now
The signs are everywhere
You left it for somebody other than you

Thanks for the last hour or so of profound social commentary, Bill and Rebecca. It's quite refreshing after the last eight days of following the news on the web. Musicians have a lot to teach us through their art, and an enlightened DJ can put it out in the right patterns at the right time.
Just looked up Jackson Browne on RP's "Artists" tab. On their Popularity measure, he comes in at 186, barely making the list. Yet he has 40 songs listed, more than anyone in the + 150 crowd other than the notable exception of EC. And in the + 100 crowd only Joni Mitchell and John Hyatt have more songs listed.
What to make of that? Maybe it's just that Bill likes JB more than the RP audience.

I've wondered the same thing about so many artists from the 60s and 70s. Dylan was a kid when he wrote A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and so many other amazing songs. There must've been something in the water back in those days.
Or maybe we need to listen to our teens a bit more seriously?

In "Not To Blame" on her 1994 album, Turbulent Indigo, Joni Mitchell accused Browne of beating up his then girlfriend Darryl Hannah. In interviews, Browne called Mitchell "disturbed". And in the biopic America's Prince: JFK Jnr, two scenes imply that Browne hit Hannah. The film was modified after legal action from Browne, who stated: "I never assaulted Daryl Hannah, and this fact was confirmed by the investigation conducted at the time by the Santa Monica Police Department."

Man, how did he capture these images so vividly and be so evocative at such a young age (in all of his early work)?

I guess some people will believe anything they hear, especially if it's negative.
Anyone who has done any actual research knows it's not true.
But hey, I've got some great land for sale down in Florida . . .
If it was posted on the internet, it has to be true, no?
I'm with ya OTB.

You know you are old when you read comments that someone has never heard of Jackson Brown. This shows us the sad state of music radio.
Jackson was great on the 70's and 80's.

Never heard of Jackson Browne before Radio Paradise... A 9 from your pal
does your new website player offer a stand alone player like the one that you had before that plays independant of the web browser? that can me minimize on the desktop?

parody, how? the guy is just as earnest as he ever was.
I saw him many moons ago in an outdoor amphitheater. Only a half-dozen songs in, a typical midwestern bad-ass thunderstorm roared up. As the roadies scurried around killing amps and unplugging everything, the MC told us all to go home, and JB just looked around, bewildered. The look on his face was "damn, these people came to see us play, we can't just quit". It really makes me think of "The Load Out" lyrics.

Even though he's turned into something of a parody of himself in later years, he was quite a remarkable artist when he was younger.

Was fantastic in Santa Barbara last weekend. His voice still sounds great.

There seems to be at least 3 sides to that story. From my limited reading, JB has some credibility when he denies ever hitting or assaulting her. Others support this. Of course, it is dark and weird, but I think you should not assume the worse and convict him. There was never any trial, any police charges, any vetted evidence. Without that, how can anyone support the definitively worst?
