Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say
One love
One life
When it's one need in the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don't care for it
Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well, it's
Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one but we're not the same
Well we hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One

Love this.

Somethings don't mix well. This is a great song and REM are an amazing band, but this cover is just ... terrible!!

great post....laughed my ass off.
Hideous. The droning vocals and misplaced bongos ugh sound like something you'd hear from some hipster at the Student Union at some crunchy university...Yes, in case you're wondering, I AM in a crappy mood today.

This version could have used a little Edge.
The guitar sounds a little uninspired... nice track, otherwise.
I could be proven wrong, but I actually think this recordering is half REM (Stipe, Buck), half U2 (Clayton, Mullen).

Stipe's voice lends the tenderness and desperateness needed in this song. I loved this song since I first heard it years ago.

I think after hearing Johnny Cash's take on this song, everyone else misses the mark, Bono should sound that good at 70.
Great contrast to how Johnny Cash does this one. Very nice!

Yep, you're right. This song is also on a bootleg of REM's first MTV Unplugged show (called "Unplugged & More", I think). It's a great disc overall, if you guys have the chance to pick it up.
I think they called themselves "Automatic Baby"-- half of each of the titles of their then-current albums.

Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Bongo drums were a nice touch. Does anyone know if Michael Stipe would need to ask Bono's permission? Just curious.
I saw a show on TV that followed M Stipe around with Mario Battali (iconoclasts). They fly to Vancouver to catch a U2 concert and Stipe is so obviously in awe of them, his jaw literally drops. He also says this song was one of the most beautiful written and he wished he could write like that. I'm sure Bono had no problem letting Stipe sing this.

Very nice!
I try not to complain -but this is truly dreadful. Please no more.
A cover should add something to the original -this subtracts.
I tried to load this, but had issues with my file. Not sure if they were able to use what I loaded or if someone else loaded it. Just glad it's on here.
If it's the same version I have, this is actually a couple of guys from REM (Stipe, obviously, and Peter Buck, I think) and two guys from U2 (Adam was one, not sure about the other).

Wow! Nice take on this.
I've heard Michael Stipe once say that he wished he wrote U2's It's a Beautiful Day. I'd love to hear REM's take on that number.
he's off key - great song but bono can sing it better

More bongo!
What an unexpected loveley suprise! Me likey.
This cover of is worth about a 6, but because I love the song so much, I'll give it a 7.
I hope this is a lead-in to one of Bill's cover sets. Perhaps U2 covering someone? Or someone covering REM next?
This is kind of fun. I like that they've made it their own. Michael Stipe is obviously not Bono.
Had heard of this. Never heard this. I like it.
i read an article on Slate, debating which band is better, U2 or REM. the reader comments were quite passionate. this is a great version of this song. i really dont take sides... I have a soft spot for REM though!!
Hmm.
Not necessary but not bad.
Certainly an interesting listen if not earthshaking.
Interesting
YES!
