Not to beg or to borrow

In addition to the guitar, Bowie also played a variety of keyboards, including piano, Mellotron, Chamberlin, and synthesisers; harmonica; alto and baritone saxophones; stylophone; viola; cello; koto (in the "Heroes" track "Moss Garden"); thumb piano; drums (on the Heathen track "Cactus"), and various percussion instruments.
Also voice is an instrument.
Bowie described himself as a performance artist.
Why even reply to such a stupid comment from mcgoo!
Never in my life have I understood the appeal of his 'music.' Oh and: he's not a musician. Musicians play instruments. Nina Simone is a musician. Jerry Garcia is a musician. Bowie sang & acted & was a cool guy. But he's not a musician.

This isn't annoying at all!!
Geezz
At least I know how to spell "you're".
I think your fucking annoying for complaining about them

This gif should come with a photo-sensitivity warning,.. please increase the frame delay.
Shame they can't do an idiot test before letting listeners register.
So, in their world, Ziggy didn't play guitar?
oy
I've noticed in myself, the older I get and the more really good music I come across, I like more and more of Bowie's less popular works. I guess I get them now.

In all cases, "was" not "is"
Sorry about that.

as well as piano, and saxophone of course....
This is just annoying

So why not re-post it.

"Neil Young has a worse voice than me"
Too fast.
Sorry it's Bowie.
This is one of the best of those - from the great Neil Young.
His best being Nirvana's "The Man Who Sold The World"
The G-Man!
Fun story - I was a young teen on vacation in this city by the bay when I stumbled upon a CD stand in the market. I saw that cover and had no idea who that guy was - It looked like some goth-industrial album, and it was like 3 bucks so I picked it up.
Imagine my surprise when I realized it's actually that Ziggy Stardust dude.
Love this album, a 10.
I find it remarkable that David Bowie, who is IMHO a far better singer than Neil Young, doesn't even come close to the original. It shows not only what a genius Neil Young is as a composer but also as a performer.
Being a better singer than Neil Young is not much to strive for... Neil's right down there with Willy Nelson and Bob Dylan. In my opinion, my dog could sing better than any of the three.

Maybe covers don't need to be compared to the originals. Maybe, just maybe, they're supposed to go other places with the song. Maybe covers that hue close to the original are a waste of time.
The great Gail Anne Dorsey.
and a YEP! Great cover.
That's a little extreme! Let's say marginal.
Interesting cover of Neil Young.
'Slip Away' will make you cry
'Catus' is better than the Pixies
then there's this one
ya like it Neil?
Yes, and the followup "Reality" was equally good, if not better.
Incredible that he was still producing such strong material so late in his career.
Alas, there'll never be another Bowie.
I just streamed the entire album the other day and it reminded me a little bit of Black Star.
i was just thinking this was black star

in that photo : )
Rejoice heathens!
Mwahahaha!
True, but Bowie at his averagest is still pretty good, I think.
And a consummate cover, for once. He rarely does them full justice.

So it's OK with you if I say, "I agree completely with toterola on this one."
Yeah, This one sort of sucks. 4. But I normally love Bowie.
+ 1
I like it!
So instantly likeable - haven't heard the original, but it's quality songwriting and it's Bowie, so you can't go wrong!
I had no idea that this was a Neil Young song...from the late 60s (hanging head in shame). I prefer the Bowie version, but Neil's ability to write such spare songs with lasting power amazes me.
I didn't know that either, though I can hear his style in it now, especially in the guitar solo. I think this is a great version, in any case.
Heathen!
Good but not great.
Fortunately I missed this one!

Would love to here that to follow Bowie's Neil cover next time.
Follwed by the Beatle's covering say Buddy Holly.
And then Buddy covering.... don't know if he ever covered say —- Hank Williams
Listen to NY following DB, some segue, huh? .......Both have music too good to ignore, no matter how 'out there' some of it might sound.....Love to hear Neil cover Space Oddity !! Imagine the furor then..
And,,Hey,DaveInVA ,how come you'v not told us that your cat could use your computer ?
That's all you need to say. Please leave God out of it, she has enough on her plate.

On this album, Bowie does cover the Pixies though—"Cactus". This ended up being my favorite Bowie album. Not the hippest or the most adventurous or most ambitious — but just very good to listen to.
Great great cover.
If you were Neil Young, I'd have one more reason to dislike you and your silly DB posts!

Album Cover looks like Bowie just found out that Mick Jagger has AIDS.

Thank you for those deep insights, Mr. McGoo. Too bad you forgot to think before typing. I guess there's no point in mentioning that Bowie played guitar, saxophone and keyboards, and probably several other instruments. Oh, and wrote and sang some of the greatest popular music of the last six decades. Keep trying, you may get the hang of this whole song comment thing eventually.
