They wanted me here just to show you my face
But when it comes to the crunch, I just hide in disgrace
You were calling me mad but I know you're the same
'Cause you gotta be seen to be playing the game
Yes, you gotta be seen to be playing the game
Yes, we gotta be seen to be playing the game
It ain't gonna hurt now if you open up your eyes
You're making it worse now every time you criticize
I'm under your curse now, but I call it compromise
I thought that you were wise, but you were otherwise
A specimen like you I would love to obtain
I asked a tedious guy if he'd tell me your name
I'd love to impress you with a back somersault
I wanna take up your love, but it's locked in a vault
I wanna take up your love, but it's locked in a vault
It ain't gonna hurt now if you open up your eyes
You're making it worse now every time you criticize
I'm under your curse now, but I call it compromise
I thought that you were wise, but you were otherwise
When I open my mouth, I'm so brutally honest
And I can't expect that kind of love from you
When you open your mouth, your teeth are beautifully polished
And I can't extract the pain you're going through
No, I can't explain the pain you're going through
It ain't gonna hurt now if you open up your eyes
You're making it worse now every time you womanize
I'm under your curse now, but I call it compromise
I'm under your curse, oh, oh
It ain't gonna hurt now if you open up your eyes
You're making it worse now every time you criticize

It still doesn't in 2021 ;-)

This piece is almost 20 years old, so I guess you are suggesting that around 2040, folks will recognize its lack. In this benighted era, this appears to be well received by RP listeners. Time will tell. Get back to us in 20 years or so.

Heh, I hate it. Rhyming wise with otherwise is just so... lame.
But I love everything else about the song. Morcheeba is fantastic even when the lyrics are a little bit derpy!

Like bad kareoke
Why don't I like her?
Because I can't sing and her voice sounds like mine.

I'm sort of with you, though I either really like, or am bored crapless, by Morcheeba's music. Much of it is boring lounge music about boring things, yet there are some absolutely stonking tracks, such as the opening track on Dive Deep or the title to Blood Like Lemonade, which go into my all-time top 50. I think it's because so many of their albums have guest artists which add spikiness and originality to the usual bland output. This may not be a top 50 number but it is catchy and engaging.
Dunno... there's a find line between blandness and simplicity, the latter of which can be refreshing and respectable if done tastefully. As with all things, it all comes down to personal opinion. But mine is that Morcheeba nails that pop-lounge sound in a pure and simple way, and I can't get enough

Yes, clearly Arabic violins - thought so too!
Listen up Terry Jones, white trash ass - uneducated-bigot, obscene IDIOT!

Expected to see this was Sarah Blasko (in lighter form) - but no... interesting.

I find I either really like, or totally dislike this bands music. I can't seem to find the in between. Sadly, this falls into the latter category.

She sounds flat to me.
Saw them (well what's left of them) the other night on Anthony Bourdain. He's apparently a friend of the band...

I do like this song, yes. It reminds me of some other song though... maybe it's just a popular sound.
Nonetheless, I find myself addicted. ( ;

Her voice is fine, its the words and refrain I dont like, or "despise" if you will.

well, i'm in california. we listen to "thick as a brick" and "supper's ready."
and the really HARDCORE californians listen to "from the cradle to the grave" and "a plague of lighthouse keepers."
(very long, intense stuff from the 70's by the subhumans and van der graaf generator)
hey bill, how about some subhumans? how about some van der graaf generator or some peter hammill?

Fortunately I found Morcheeba right when they released their Who Can You Trust? title back in 96'. Which I believe is by far their best work to date. Anywho, I have been hooked ever since. I can't imagine my life without a little Skye.

I guess you better not listen to it during any love making sessions then drover. It's only about a 4 minute song. :) Just kiddin, I totally hear ya. I just wish they would do something similar to Who Can You Trust or Big Calm again. Charango is allot closer than Fragments was. Much more adventerous. It just seems like Skye has kind of taken over the creative element which I think was best left to the Godfrey brothers.
wow, new to me, on my list

I Agree!! It is the first time that I've heard this tune. Thank You RP!
