Awesome!
I always thought he was super talented.  This confirms it.
That first chord always makes me think it's Zeppelin
something about this reminds me of this soundgarden song from the singles soundtrack
This was the brilliant talent behind The Cars? Absolutely brilliant guitar work.
Excellent RP! Keep it up! You're on a roll!
I just love how well he demonstrates and celebrates the magical, energizing properties of String Theory!

I already knew,  But, PLEASE PLAY MORE of acoustic Elliot!!  Thank you!

another first for me here... only ** many years since its releace!
Keith don't gooooo
Interesting how this sounds absolutely nothing like The Cars. I guess since Rick wrote all their songs, EE's style may not have had much room to stretch its legs.

Make that 37
I was/am a huge Cars fan and EE has always been phenomenal. This is the first time I've heard him on an acoustic. Nice. Thanks Bill!
I like this. Makes me wonder if he was one of Bonnamassa's influences.
Happily made me think of Shawn Phillips.
This album is 30 years old!

Hey Leo

I literally just had that exact same thought- without seeing this first. slightly amused/frightened...
Hey Leo
young man is most excellent, specially following Petty' Touch
It's easy to understand why Elliot decided against participating in the last Cars album. Listening to this you can hear that he's in a different place now. Nicely done.

How is this effort overall?  If this an indicator of the content, I will put it on the wish list.
Holy cow. Out of print CD, going for $35 used.
Sorry, no!
Boy, he sure got some pretty lips.....
Wow, likin' it.
Dude looks like he's fresh out of Beverly Hills 90210, or something equally despicable, on the album cover but some damn fine gui-tar playing totally lets him off the hook.

Sounds very much like Preston Reed.
A vastly underrated guitarist. First thing I noticed about The Cars way back when was the impeccable timing of the guitar work.
Love this...and really like the echoes of Tommy-era Pete Townshend-style strumming towards the end... Very tasty guitar textures (and I agree, very Leo Kottke-ish!) from the guy who laid down some of the tastiest licks ever and who trademarked those blistering 12-bar solos in such great catchy tunes with The CARS...

Was thinking the same thing...and from 1985 no less.  Unexpected.

nice, Kottkeesque, similar to Euphoria's stuff
Liked him then...with the Cars...like him later too...like him now!!! Great stuff!!
Pretty funny that Bill's patter between this song and the last, Escovedo's "Down in the Bowery," got caught in a digital delay-lay-lay-lay...
What's going on out there Bill!?
First you announced Mavis Staples and played Moody Blues...now you git your echo on!
Tellin' ya man....ya gotta stay away from that wacky stuff. {#Drunk}
really good

I'm trying to figure out if Mr. Easton's work is played over the preview of Ken Burns' new "National Parks" PBS documentary.  Any confirmations or deniers out there?  Thanks in advance.  Beautiful work.

I will neither confirm or deny.

Yes. One of the great, unsung guitarists!! Thanks Bill!!  {#Notworthy}
What a great playlist going on here...

Elliot Easton - Walk On Walden
Spirit - Clear
The Decemberists - Prelude -> The Queen's Approach

...Love RP :)

Is this even on CD?

What a find.

Walk on Walden wasn't on the original, just the Rhino reissue. I think.
Simply superb.

That'd be Steve Earl.

I swear, his guitar solos with the Cars were some of the tastiest licks I'd ever heard. Great guitarist.
Never heard this tune before; one of the great things of RP is that you learn about music each and every day. Thanx!

I might doubt whether he was in The Cars...but that haircut...
Most certainly was.
No wonder he used to teach guit-fiddle at USC!
I used to have this on vinyl, I bought it for a track other than this one but this one is killer, great to see it/hear it on the playlist.

Wow. I've admired his amazing licks for years in the cars. If you listen closely to a lot of their songs, Mr. Easton was doing great stuff. Never heard anything from him alone. Thanks for the head's up, Bill!

I do agree with you. Is the drummer an insane cow? ianguy wrote:

Never heard him before, but I love this, needed to go on a bit longer.
reminds me of Adrian Legg's style
He taught music at USC I've heard, with Lee Ritenour. Dynamite Guitfiddlist, definitely the Ying compared to the Yang that was The Cars drummer
Great song.

Ice Cube loves this song.
keep playing kick ass guitar
Quite impressive, though Leo Kottke has some pretty nice guitar-hands as well =) 8/10

Actually, it isn't that surprising. One of the best things about his guitar solos with the Cars material was how melodic and how vital it was to the rest of the song. Elliot played for the song.... he didn't try to outshine it. Great solo work!
Totally agree. That is one of his great talents. This is really nice stuff.

just stand back and let him play
Sure wish this song would actually go somewhere... It would make a nice intro for something with a bit more depth.
great guitar!
Awesome guitar playing!

Agreed - but I am only surprised by the style -I've never heard him play this style before. He is, however, one of the best and tastyist guitarists around. Whether you enjoy the Cars or not, this guy had the most amazing solo ideas - hook city!
Cool. Hard to believe this is the same guy who used to play guitar with the Cars, though.
