Keep on picking the dirt from 'neath your fingernails

Keep on lapping up your chemical duty-free

Keep on dancing dancing, dance with everyone

I first became aware of Gomez back around 2008 thanks to Radio Paradise. This was always one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Maybe, but I expect their parents are of the correct vintage.
This was the song that turned me into Gomez fan. I haven't heard it in years. So much great music here on RP. Thanks for playing it again.

Paradiddled!
Increasingly hard to be a bit different, but Gomez do it like it's second nature to them. You alway know a Gomez tune. This one is just flat out cool. And that bass got my old B&Ws working! 😎

I hear a bit of “fly Trans World Airlines” (Donovan) in this cool groove.

and they really rip into it when they play it live.  the guitars really crunch loudly about half way through.  i miss these guys in concert.

Each song has a I - VII chord vamp (mixolydian mode) in the verses, as do many other songs.
another great album from a great time in my life!

Me too, CoJo!  Something about them does seem so casual and effortless...heck how many bands can sing the lyric "you're not the re-vo-lu-tion-a-ry kind" with enunciation of each syllable and still have it sound good?  I think of them sort of like the Gorillaz with much less hip-hop.  And I like the Gorillaz.  LLRP!!

Upgraded my 8 rating to 9. Brilliant tune and unique band! Long Live RP!!
Good stuff indeed

My favorite Gomez song is from this CD - "Rhythm and Blues Alibi".   I also love "We Haven't Turned Around" and "California" from the same CD.  All 10s (including this one).  The rest of the CD is also very good.  There are only a handful of CDs that have 4 or more songs I'd rate 10.  This is their best CD.

I would say "California" is my favourite from this album, and this is my favourite Gomez album. When I saw them something like 5 or 7 years ago, I really hoped they'd play "California" but didn't hope too hard as it's old, long, and not exactly radio-friendly.

They opened the bleeding show with it!

And I had this song at a 9. What was wrong with me?
Shock and awe.
One of their revolutionary songs. Gotta love their music,true music,love and inspiration... Gomez -they are your friends....

"This guy's voice is as boring as whale s**t... "

Don't quite hear the Mersey connection myself, but yes a bit of "On Broadway"...Loved George Benson's version.

This following Made of Stone, man, the goosebumps just won't stop!

Love that little chord progression they use twice in here, so smacks of the 70's!

The beginning actually reminded me of Ferry Cross The Mersey.
Bought this CD 11 years ago...Still gets plenty of play
I like this.  The melody line reminds me of  how Michael Jackson's " The way You Make me Feel  "  would sound if it was brought down to a near acoustic  place.
the revolution continues...looks like the rain cleared up.  7 to an 8.  I like it...

Gomez comes through again. {#Music}
These guys have such a cool, unique instrumental style and an amazing variety to their compositions.  In addition, of course, to their eclectic vocal styles, too.

This song is freeing. I love it.
Nice!
Love this track, great!
Much to the dismay of my co workers, this is one of the songs that I am absolutely mandated to sing along with!{#Lol}

  {#Eh} Okay, maybe a little on that first bar . . . I always think of the guys in Gomez as having very individually distinctive voices, which is one of the reasons I like them. You must be doing something right if you're sounding like a Buckley!

AAHHH... before the fame. The good old days.
I can see they're trying very hard but it's not hitting the spot for me.
Yep yep!!{#Bananajam}
Love this track.  The middle part is outta sight.
The voice here is quite reminiscent of Jeff Buckley.

gomez is (was) an amazing band.  The new stuff hasn't grown on me, "In Our Gun" and every album before that was outstanding.  As with almost every truly great album, they should be listened to in their entirety.  Glad to hear this song today though.  Thanks again Bill!

I thought How We Operate was very close to the high standard of the early stuff (Split the Difference wasn't).

Naw, thats becasue Bill played the dog out of that album.
Judging by the charts it took four albums before the US took notice, by then they had vaned back in the Old country.
{#Bounce}
Easily my favorite Gomez tune.  Love the spacey dub-ish centerpiece!  8
Not my favourite Gomez track.  Could be my mood...
I saw them recently in Birmingham, Ala., at Workplay Theatre and these guys are arguably some of the best musicians around.  Ben Ottewell sings this song but Ian Ball & Tom Gray sing equally as much without losing anything, just a change of styles.  One of the few bands that sound as good live as they do recorded.  Amazing.
This is Gomez at their coolest. Miss this stuff!!
GOMEZ is Kool!
This is much better.  I like this vibe.

Oh, you are so wrong. This whole CD is awesome.

I love Gomez and this might be my very favorite Gomez song. It has it all. Listen to the CD on a really good stereo system sometime and you can hear a lot of rich sounds, incredible texture.

Er..no. There's green curry, red curry, yellow curry, mild curry, hot curry, volcanic curry, vindaloo, garam masala... there's all kinds of things that are called "curry", and they can be *verrry* different!
joshfm "Curry. Hmm, seems like curry only has one flavor, that is curry." That's what I was thinkin' Joshfm. I found Gomez here at RP. THANKS! I really enjoy their music.

Gotta agree, both musically and in the epicurean sense as well. Try the dishes in Sri Lanka vs. India..."Ring of Fire" to say the least... Gomez, I like them, but playing deeply into "How We Operate" they seem to become poppier as the disc progresses, I like the less-commercially oriented songs...this one qualifies
joshfm wrote:

Nay. As wikipedia puts it:
Curry (from Tamil: கறி) is the English description of any of a general variety of spicy dishes, best-known in Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai, Chinese and other South Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines
Gomez, who at times have sported no fewer than 3 lead vocalists, is most definitely a curry of the highest order. Most excellent tune.
how long has this band been around? i'm constantly grateful that i stumbled into the shady oasis of RP. my new radio, bill, is a genius. thanks again.

Therein lies the confusion of curry...and hence, that's what makes it sooo fun!!

Oh dear ... I'm really liking this song ... does that mean I'll HAVE to get this Gomez cd too?? Damn RadioParadise, can't have anything nice ... no wait, I mean: Bless RadioParadise, GOT TO have so many things GREAT!
what a great song. I caught 'em live a few years back and this song was performed in a completely different way. I almost didn't recognize it. The middle tripped out jam was extended to like 10 minutes or so which made it very choice.

Actually, Gomez has three lead singers.
I particularly like the middle part when it goes into the loopy spiraling sound. Crank the DBs.

Well, I don't smoke, so I'll settle for a drink. Saw them live years ago. They played this great track as an encore. A real fan favourite, and with good reason.
