Well its headlights, and white lights, and Black Tar Rivers
They're dragging me around this country as it withers
The billboards, signposts, standing in the way
Tell of the state of the nations, that we find today
And we play and we play and we play
To every day, every day
To every day
And in the front rooms of old towns far from the city
With beaten up guitars and hearts full of pity
The people gather round singing songs from everywhere
They're torn from the nation, left without a care
And we play and we play and we play
To every day, every day
To every day
And we'll rid the bloody world for a moment in a word
And we'll rid the bloody world cos
The words that you heard when you were young will always stay
The one's that always stay make the world go away
Warm night, clear sky, European town
Outside the bars singing their hearts out to a crowd
With open boots, violin, banjo and a voice
The exiled buskers are happy with their choice
And we play and we play and we play
To every day, every day
To every day
They're dragging me around this country as it withers
The billboards, signposts, standing in the way
Tell of the state of the nations, that we find today

Was thinking just now, hmmm, that's a Waterboys song that I don't know...and yeah, completely wrong...have to dig into these guys a bit more I guess...
I have a vivid memory of listening to this album, sat in a traffic jam (mum driving) on my way back from Uni., somewhere in the roadworks that were part of the M3 Twyford Down extension. It was a scorchingly hot day and I amused myself watching a bunch of protesters making merry on top of a huge concrete pipe (tunnel lining?) Several of the women weren't wearing enough to ward off the sunburn (or much else). Don't think my mother was too impressed...
Sounds like John Lennon.

They're still gigging and ranting.

I prefer the original version, but this is still pretty good.
Kudos to the Levellers for keeping the tattered banner of crusty anarchism flying for over 30 years, to my memory. They're still gigging and ranting.
They really should have recorded this against a click track.
Yes but what a great album. interesting to see from the ratings that you either love or hate this band.
