Theres something about your favorite radio station 'constantly' playing a cool song you would never hear anywhere and it becomes a personal favorite of its own...
LLRP brothers and sisters one love
I agree! Love Habib Koite and his band. Actually got to see him at a small venue in Lake Tahoe. An amazing experience.
I have first heard Habib Koite here on Radio Paradise, and I had a great luck to listen to them live in Croatia this summer, it was such an amazing experience, they are fabulous musicians. I love those discoveries from RP!
That is why we come here! Dobro Jutro (Good Morning)!
Marvellous tune! Thanks RP!
I Agree!
Love RP! BUT would be better without the foreign {Spanish) language songs.
Turn to other stations when they play Spanish.
Good for you! Hit the "skip button" ...problem solved!

You Lucky Duck! I wish I could have been there too!
Bill, I think this one is stuck in your play list. Not bad, but please don't over do it.
Minority report.
had to google THAT!
me too - he's also recorded with Eric Bibb
Great venue to see anyone - love that place.

Fantastic!
Thanks for that, tomcool; in fact, I was thinking of going 7→8 and you sold me on the up-vote. And now I know why this song has such a "happy to be alive" vibe to it, which is why I wanted to go to 8 to begin with....LONG LIVE RP and all the music in the world, even if I don't like it!!

No idea...
Another song I first discovered thanks to Putamoyo. Something I also really enjoy about this station - the quality of curation and my exposure to such a wide array of music!
I remember when this was called High Life, loved it then as now. :-D

As always... a wealth of information. Thanks so much.

Yes, I am there, in my mind, and as you said, "Everybody is friendly". Amazing with all the things that happen, bad things in Africa, that all of the people from Congo, Kenya, Ghana, Sierra Leone and many other countries that I have met living in the USA are such wonderfully friendly people. My brief encounters and associations never fail to inspire me to be happier myself and especially friendly to everyone I meet.

filled with gem after gem!
Mali' finest - and there are plenty great bands and singers,
male and female!
Boubakar "Kar Kar" Traore and Rokia Traore for example.
Not to forget "Zap Mama" - though they are a bit of another story!
PS
...and what about "GIGI" from Ethiopia?
Right with you on this... admittedly, not on some other things, but it seems you have a mighty fine appreciation of a good tune. hi 5
Wasn't as irritating to me as, say, misspellings on a public venue.
I may have only given this song a 6, but your post, unclehud, gets a 10!

Playing with a capo?
A kora, maybe? Although, I think it's usually held vertically... I don't know.
You usually sit with the cora in front of you on the floor, neck pointing away from you. Never heard of anyone playing one standing, but hey, it's all rock and roll....
I don't understand the lyrics either, but I like the sound.
Perhaps some kind soul (with the appropriate skills or resources) would be so kind as to post a translation of the lyrics to help us both understand.
English translation: For all the happy fathers, you have just had a daughter who looks very much like your wife. You are blessed now with two wives at home.
Nobody move!Hands in the air!

featuring "Wassiye" from the Putumayo World Music Africa compilation.
I have always understood that the music of African ethnicity, or any other continent, should not be understood or used only to serve as a "tab" of a musical sequence. It is to be lived and experienced as a musical style with greater relevance. No reservations or prejudices.
Otherwise, it's like visiting the zoo at the weekend, to see rare birds.
Habib Koite is one of the examples (there are many more*) of the extraordinary quality of this musician and singer came from Mali, ability to improvise, high sense of the combination of rhythm, capable of competing with the best music that is produced in Europe, UK and the US.
By the way, a word of congratulations to the RP Team, to include regular in their programming music of African ethnicity, and beyond, (not so much as I wanted, but ....) promoting the quality of music coming from around the world, and waking up with some minds addicted to urban music and electronics.

No kidding. Awol-One is the latest I found.
Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Heltah Skeltah, Atmosphere, KRS-One (still kickin and relevant!), Pharcyde, The Roots, Blackalicious, Remedy, Rakim and many, many more!! Some call it consciousness Hip-hop, basically same as any genre, anything that is not commercial.
Stingray!
