Here comes johnny yen again
With the liquor and drugs
And the flesh machine
He's gonna do another strip tease.
Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?
I've been hurting since I've bought the gimmick
About something called love
Yeah, something called love.
Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in the ear before.
I have a lust for life
'cause of a lust for life.

I'm worth a million in prizes
With my torture film
Drive a gto
Wear a uniform
All on a government loan.
I'm worth a million in prizes
Yeah, I'm through with sleeping on the sidewalk
No more beating my brains
No more beating my brains
With liquor and drugs
With liquor and drugs.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in my ear before
Well, I've a lust for life (lust for life)
'cause of a lust for life (lust for life, oooo)
I got a lust for life (oooo)
Got a lust for life (oooo)
Oh, a lust for life (oooo)
Oh, a lust for life (oooo)
A lust for life (oooo)

LOL!  Too funny!

I still feel that sting of disappointment when Toyota used this song for a car commercial back in 1998... Well, I got a good 20 years out of this track.

Can't believe this guy covered that Tom Jones song.
It's officially Friday 5 p.m.

He probably didn't have a problem cashing the check for the licensing.

Quite the gig.

Cool story.  Thank You for sharing it!

GREAT TUNE!!  I also like the cover version by Tom Jones w/ The Pretenders!
I awoke to this ear worm.  My 66th b'day is tomorrow.  I'm ready for the next 20.

Makes sense - explains why he is known for bringing young performers up on stage. And stands back and lets them shine, instead of staying in the spotlight. Helps they most often slay it. DG seems like a class act.

This track provides us with probably the most enjoyable yet ironic start to any movie.

"Getting it in the ear" is a English term for being nagged at.
In the context of the song I'd surmise that he and David bowie were getting it in the ear for their constant use of liquor and drugs and living the "high life" due to their mutual "Lust for life"

"Had it in the ear" was an expression that meant one was taken advantage of, screwed over, or otherwise treated unfairly.  Like you were poked in the ear with a pencil...or worse (as that picture in your mind was developing)
ex: "Man, I really got it in the ear from the company when they made me salaried instead of hourly."
I don't think it's commonly used much anymore.

There's an article about Iggy Pop's friendship with David Bowie in this morning's New York Times:

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/14/arts/music/david-bowie-iggy-pop.html?ref=arts&_r=0 .

It provides insight to how Iggy wrote this song. Good stuff.
Oh Bill, you have truly raised the segue bar.  Los Lobos' Good Morning Aztlan to Lust for Life to Donna Summer... it's like canoeing down a white water river — there ain't no stoppin', you just keep paddlin' and watch out for rocks...  love it!

A solid '1'. This tune always struck me as the opposite of its title - quite vapid and tedious.  {#Razz}

I was in a dark place at the time and this tune pulled me out on many occasions.  Thanks, Mr Pop.  And thanks, Mr G. for allowing me to enjoy it again. Best regards from this sunny side of the pond  xx

No Fun!
In April 2013, I visited the studio in Berlin where Iggy and Bowie crafted this great song (and album). If you are ever in Berlin you should check out Hansa By The Wall studio. Lotta history there - Bowie, Iggy, U2, Depeche Mode. All made classic albums there. Very cool studio. You can see some of Hansa By The Wall in U2's "One" video. Also took a tour to 155 Hauptstrasse - the apt where Bowie and Iggy lived while in Berlin.
Oh, I get it!  "I've never had it in the REAR before."  Thanks, Doctor Demento!
Jim Rome bumper music.  I was late to work today.  The benefit was that I got to listen to the first 1/2 hour of the Jim Rome show during the drive.  That guy's the best in sports radio by far.

Used beautifully in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." Loved that movie so much that as soon as the final credits ended, I rewound the tape and watched the whole thing again.
...The "Jets" pretty much copied the intro on that song of theirs "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" IMHO
That is one great song for the early morning!
Awesome fekkin song!
Good segue from Louis Prima, but I can't shake the sense that "hey, Bo Diddley" is buried in these grooves somewhere.

In 1980 Paul Simon turned 39, Elton John and Iggy Pop turned 33 and Stevie Wonder turned 30 (and of course he started his career as a teenager.)

Make a list of your 25 favorite rock songs and my bet is that the vast majority were written and performed by someone who was 25 or younger at the time.

I could never really afford to buy CDs or records until around the time the movie Trainspotting came out.  I was driving a beat up old car with a giant dent in the side, and I could barely make the payments.  What little spending money I had went to whatever social life I was able to scrape together in Wrigleyville, Chicago (great times).  So, I bought the Trainspotting CD, mainly on the strength of this song - they had just started playing this in heavy rotation on XRT.  It was a life-changing CD for me, because Brian Eno's Deep Blue Day is also on that CD...
I think I'll spend the day hypnotizing chickens.
