I still feel that sting of disappointment when Toyota used this song for a car commercial back in 1998... Well, I got a good 20 years out of this track.
He probably didn't have a problem cashing the check for the licensing.
Went to the Iggy Pop gig at the student union building on the UC Berkeley campus back a ways when I was living in Berkeley circa the tear gas days surrounding the legendary peoples park conflict.
Iggy got onstage with his minimalist band (drums, bass) and as he launched into the opening tune the power was apparently intentionally cut in the building and the emergency lighting came on. Iggy was unfazed, said FU and continued to play acapella until the fire department and the police forced him off stage to loud boos. The crowd refused to leave and a skirmish ensued with Iggy leading the charge. UC Berkeley publicly apologized the next day.
Quite the gig.
Cool story. Thank You for sharing it!
Funny, I forgot about that commercial until now. Thanks for nothin'!

Yea, he fulfilled that promise with his new wife:
Good for Iggy.
I'd like to see him and Tom Jones do a duet of this.
Me TOO!! The Tom Jones cover is on the RP playlist. I love it!
i read somewhere that iggy noticed that egyptian emperors were always depicted with no shirts, so that's why he never wears a shirt
If I was in as good a shape as he, I'd go shirtless more often too.
Dave Grohl tells an interesting story of being a pick up drummer for Iggy Pop at a random gig when he was just starting out. It was his little boy fantasy come real.
c.
ah, at last something good after having clicked 5 or 6 times to PSD
You surely mean 'something you like'?
The seeds of punk (Velvet Underground, Stooges, MC5, NY Dolls) were really a response to the overproduced prog rock, stadium rock, and the big money that was flowing into music. Basically a big FU, I'm going to do what I want. This in turn inspired the Brit scene (Sex Pistols, et al) who used to vent their frustrations about Thatcher's Great Britain and utter lack of opportunity in the depressed economy. That was parallel to the Ramones and CBGB scene in NY which eventually had a parallel scene in Los Angeles with X, Blasters, and so many more. All of that splintered into the hard core scene and "new wave" (as labelled by the media) and latter into industrial, speed/death metal, electronica, and a host of other subgenres.
The late 70s to late 80s was probably the most diverse the music industry has ever been however, aside from MTV, most people in American never heard any of it.
Sex Pistols predated (the start of) Thatcher's Britain by 3 years.
Prescient stuff
These guys could've been brothers.
We need to think about the ecological choices we make and think about what kind of planet we're leaving for Iggy and Keith Richards
Too Funny! These guys are like the Energizer Bunny! They just keep on going!!!
Yea, he fulfilled that promise with his new wife:
When James Newell Ostenberg, Jr. was not a modern guy...
This track provides us with probably the most enjoyable yet ironic start to any movie.
what exactly did he have in his ear....?
"Getting it in the ear" is a English term for being nagged at.
In the context of the song I'd surmise that he and David bowie were getting it in the ear for their constant use of liquor and drugs and living the "high life" due to their mutual "Lust for life"
It's easy you just put their head under their wing, and swing gently from side to side. Presto they fall asleep.
Then you line them up with their heads still under their wings and scare the grandchildren. Great fun.
He was 63 in the photo. Just sayin
True...though this one's great and I have to re-rate my 8's not enough...it's a 9...now all's fine...Long Live RP and the LUST for life!!
Life for some may have a been a Johnny Mathis song or a JohnPaulGeorgeRingo jingo, but that seemed like a load of horse _ _ _ _ to others. If you don't "get" the music I'd say you fall under the former category and not so much the latter.

Looks so wholesome, doesn't he?
My 6 pack abs are Budweiser.
LOL! And I used to say I had a 4 pack, like wine coolers....now it's just a keg! This one's still an 8 though I love the passion that comes out in this song....guess that's required in a song called "Lust for Life" eh? Long Live RP!!

"Had it in the ear" was an expression that meant one was taken advantage of, screwed over, or otherwise treated unfairly. Like you were poked in the ear with a pencil...or worse (as that picture in your mind was developing)
ex: "Man, I really got it in the ear from the company when they made me salaried instead of hourly."
I don't think it's commonly used much anymore.
she's gonna do another strip tease
looks like he has a skin shirt on.
Stated without evidence ... dismissed without evidence
Dumb as a sack of rocks

Plenty of people have - the practice is over 350 years old. Apparently, his use of the term in this song is to a character in a William S. Burroughs book.
Really?! Consider me gobsmacked. I must know more. Thank you!

Bill, I can't get any work done at all while you keep playing this quality of music... and my coworkers don't seem to appreciate my singing along either.
the first Stooges album was good in a different way (now I wanna be your dog!)
Yeah, he'd probably be into it.
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/14/arts/music/david-bowie-iggy-pop.html?ref=arts&_r=0 .
It provides insight to how Iggy wrote this song. Good stuff.
That's one hip, rockin' cat
Where did you find that!
I need this.
Bill - I hear ya and I love yer programming but I bet you can find a mood and a place for I Wanna Be Your Dog. Check it out.

Sucky.
The power of suggestion!

Used beautifully in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." Loved that movie so much that as soon as the final credits ended, I rewound the tape and watched the whole thing again.
Yeah, this song always reminds me of this cool movie... love this song...
I don't know, these guys weren't that old when they started their downward slides, all of them could be said to have started losing their touch in the 80's, even Iggy. I don't think it's a matter of getting older so much as a matter of getting comfortable in a niche.
In 1980 Paul Simon turned 39, Elton John and Iggy Pop turned 33 and Stevie Wonder turned 30 (and of course he started his career as a teenager.)
Make a list of your 25 favorite rock songs and my bet is that the vast majority were written and performed by someone who was 25 or younger at the time.
Well,
I'm just a modern guy
The only thing that happened to each of the trailblazing, amazing, genius (in their own ways) artist that you mentioned is that they and their audiences got older. Rock and roll, r&b, pop & punk are games for young men and women to remake every generation and thank god for that.
Love these guys all - also love great and near artists of the '00s and '10s - mostly thanks to hearing them on RP
Keep 'em all coming Bill

Sorry. The Stooges just never did it for me.

Yep...and my neighbours might say just a bit too loudly!
LOL! Too funny!
