It's a human sign
When things go wrong
When the scent of her lingers
And temptation's strong

Into the boundaries
Of each married man
Sweet deceit comes callin'
And negativity lands

Cold, cold heart
Hard done by you
Some things look better baby
Just passin' through

And it's no sacrifice
Just a simple word
It's two hearts living
In two separate worlds
And it's no sacrifice
No sacrifice
No sacrifice at all

Mutual misunderstandings
After the fact
Sensitivity builds a prison
In the final act

We lose direction
No stone unturned
No tears to damn you
When jealousy burns

Cold, cold heart
Hard done by you
Some things look better baby
Just passing through

And it's no sacrifice
Just a simple word
It's two hearts living
In two separate worlds
But it's no sacrifice
No sacrifice
No sacrifice at all

I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart
I gave my heart

I'm old enough to have, unfortunately I did not hear of her until the 90's.
Oh, the angst, the angst.  might consider sacrificing a plastic knife to cut it. Great chance to check out the other stream here on RP

Plenty of breath taking! Better when her voice kicks in halfway through. True to Elton's pronunciation of sackerifice!
What a sweet voice !

Wow - how have I never heard this one - excellent!

Absoluately gorgeous. Haven't heard this in a long time.  Brought back lots of memories.
This is so beautiful to me.

gorgeous voice  {#Hearteyes}
Really digging the mix this afternoon. varied, just enough obscure to keep me attentive. thank, RP, i needed this.

zzzzzzz....
Another formulaic and rather boring cover.  Sinéad can do so much better.
Good God! Didn't know you could make a sacrament of an Elton John song. Superb!
Strange change to the vocal production part way through.  Doesn't improve it to my ears.  Overall, not a fan of the artist, as usual.  I think she chose the whiney one to do out of the track choices given, as usual.  Perhaps she should have had a go at "Saturday Night".
Had to tab back into RP and see who this was, wow! Sinead, go figure. Then I YouTube'd the original and I do barely remember seeing the video at the time. I do recall that hat. Like so much of Eltons later stuff it's completely forgettable. This cover is completely deserving of it's own praise. I won't even think of it as a cover.

Go back to 70s Elton for the good stuff. Schlock and mall music was all we got out of him from the late 80s on.
beautiful song, gorgeous voice  (Cheers kingart!)
I see folks here talk about songs that reminded them of their ex wife or girl or hot love. Woebegone, heartsick breakups of loss and separation and wtf...
This is that one for me.
Because That Girl just called me a week ago for the first time in 22 years and we had a 12 minute chat.
Jay-sus.
I need to meditate. Big time.

My assessment of Sinead just went through the roof.
The "Two Rooms" record is really good, even if this isn't your cup of tea.

Nonsense!  If it was just an Elton song, you might have a leg to stand on.  But not when Bernie Taupin is also involved.

This one rarely makes it to the list of the "Top 20 Best Covers" and I'll never understand why.

Sinead does Elton John and Bernie Taupin proud.

Tricky Ziggy!  Ha, I see what you did there.

It got my attention, and I recognized the words.  I didn't realize it was an Elton John song until I read the comments.  I don't care for his stuff anymore, but this is amazing.  It immediately calmed me down at my desk at work.

just so absolutely beautiful this version is... {#Music}
jeepers, this is good.
Breathtaking in more sense than one...
My goodness.     That voice.
Wow had to look....what a great cover! Love Sinead!
oh man these lyrics presented by imho the voice of an Angel, has my rapt attention and slows each breath...never would've guessed an Elton song could get me

Sublime! Don't usually like this kind of thing but this is exceptional in so many ways. Thanks for playing.
I refuse to sacrifice my eardrums and auditory nerves, so I hit the "PSD" button.
arresting.

She's singing with such restraint that its hard for me to continue listening.

hmm, cool cover.  cant believe I said that.

Sinead nails it here. Listen to the whole CD for other great interpretations of some of Elton John's classics, as good or better in some cases than the original.

I agree with you on both counts. I recommend to sit in a dark room, turn the volume up to 11, and take it all in. The power of a voice as an instrument, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. This CD is in regular rotation for me, even though I'm not an Elton fan. I'd love to see it revisited. Imagine the interpretations by the likes of Coldplay, the Killers, White Stripes, MMJ,....Beyonce?

Celestial!
Never heard this before... it's haunting!
Made me cry.  Excellent.
Elton's version was so overproduced, but this one is beautifully stripped down and simplified.

Reminds me of Peter Gabriel's remake of "Here Comes the Flood." The first version is unlistenable. The second is amazing.
Just beautiful. I love it when Sinead makes her voice soft and tender.

Wow.  What a great cover.  I am inspired to buy this single and possibly her latest album which has gotten raves.

Elton's original was shite....this is a whole lot worse....mmm nice cliched "Celtic" synthetic harp sound!!
Good version of this! I wish she had not given up singing for so long..................
Painfully over sung. She mailed it from too far away.
Nice!
Pretty impressive. She rarely "mails it in". Lays it all out there.
I don't like either songs... sorry...
Much to dweepy!

I second this motion...Not a huge Sinead fan...but her version is superior to Elton's original.
absolutely lovely

How about playing some of the other tracks from this amazing album?  Bruce Hornsby's "Madman" and Eric Clapton's "Border Song" come to mind.

That's some funny s#!t.

Pausing to turn this up to 11. By far my favorite female singer, and how she remade this (mundane by Elton's standards) song is really incredible.

Well put. A cover, ideally imo, should bring something new to the song and this certainly meets that criterion.  SO does a great job here.

Thanks Bill!
{#No}.. Elton's' song.

Quite possibly the best Elton John cover ever.

In fact, I like it better than the original.
I love this cover. Far superior to the now very dated-sounding original Elton did. Glad to hear it here on RP!

I am BT, EJ fan from way back..this works for me...like it better than EJ's version..

I think this one conveys the emotions better than the original.
though I'm not sure why she gave her hall...
