Wearing nothing is devine
Naked is a state of mind
I take things off to clear my head
To say the things I haven't said
Live inside the elements
The earth and sky are my best friends
Water is the evidence
That washes me from end to end
With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see
It's not a choice I tried to make
It's not a thought I couldn't take
Something told me it was time
To give you yours and leave me mine
My vision started to be clear
I watched the sunlight coming near
I knew the day I knew the night
I knew i could regain my sight
And it feels alright
And it feels alright
With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see
With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye
I saw all if I said it all
I could see
Last night I came into your home
To break some ice and throw some stones
I asked if we could be alone
I had some troubles of my own
Knew I had to say goodbye
To all the old things held inside
If I let the moment fly
I knew they'd all be magnified
And it feels alright
And it feels alright
Came around after dark
You are nothing but a lark
Know I snuck in like a narc
I knew I had to leave my mark
Wanted to be satisfied
I tried to be dignified
Wearing nothing is divine
Naked is a state of mind
And it feels alright
And it feels alright
With my naked eye
I saw all the falling rain
Coming down on me
With my naked eye

1st heard this on a comp cd i ordered (don't remember how); it had a bunch of alternative bands/songs i never heard of: this one, gee angel by sugar, blue eyed devil by soul coughing. my google-fu produced nothing when searching with these 3 songs/artists. times b4 the internet are just memories i guess
Love this. Any kin to Precious?
Haven't heard this in a long time. .
Nice
Nice
A really primo hook. Don't hear it often enough.
Formed in Manhattan, NYC.
the live version on YT has a rawer, stronger drumming presence and none of the unnecessary production on this version

Hitting the PSD ...what a great feature!
LOVE this one
Bill said Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters were up next and I immediately thought they needed to give Luscious Jackson their groove back.
LOTS of memories to this album. It’s very good overall! Very fun to hear it again....
It's fun....
One and done.

Anyone on RP who doesn't think this song a slinky, sexy piece of silky good music officially shouldn't be here. Perfect play. She's channeling lusciousness.

Am I nuts or is this a different mix? Feels more lo-fi vs. what I remember.
I location scouted and location managed a video here in NYC for this artist in this year. I forget the tune. Maybe it was this one? Not a bad bit of booty piffle.

Is this a different mix? It has much clearer lyrics and the off kilter chords are not jarring, like they were in my memory of this song.
just too cool.

Terrible terrible crap!
Bananarama anyone?
Always liked this one but the mix sounds different from the version I have.

That's funny, I share your anxiety. Something about the beat? Either way it's good to hear after so long.

A tolerable track off an intolerable album.
I've never heard a Luscious jackson song, just caught the hype about the name years ago. It's not bad at all, not really my thing.
Groovy track

Me three. Last year I got on a binge and bought every album of every group that every member of The Bangles was ever in . . . and this particular album had few if any good cuts. This is another case of repetition of a poor line of text not improving it.

my god how old is this song? or actually... how old do I feel all of a sudden..hehe. I remember listening to this one on the radio when it was really popular. Not excellent but still sounds ok, and definitely brings back memories!
seedeater wrote:

Their first EP was great! Funny and musically very rich. I was so disappointed when this one came out and was so mediocre. I've never understood why this monotonous song got so popular.
Don't want to like it but I do.
I usually prefer strong masculine sounding vocals...but something about this song does it for me.
I've always liked this song. Sounds like I'm better off thinking it's they're only one....
get your party on! :-)

I dunno, best song on the album, for sure; but it's consistent, and I return to it every once in a while.

So true, unfortunately.

Yes, this song is definitely well above the rest of the tunes on the CD. A great example for using Itunes.

i remember seeing this video back in the day... was it based in an airport or something.. isnt there some sort of investigation or following of someone going on...
(some emoticons for good measure)
Grrrrrrrl Power!
I was just going to ask- they still make music?

Luscious, indeed!
Thanks, Bill!

Check out a "group" called Dusty Trails....mellower, but similar vocal sounds.
Reading the lyrics to this song always reminds me of a bit Brett Butler used to do in her routine, she would poke fun at the Calvin Klein fragrance commercials and the waifs featured in them by saying,
"honey, you don't know anything about obsession. Let me tell you about obsession. Obsession is scrambling around in the bushes outside a married man's house after midnight with a machete in one hand and a jar of vaseline in the other". Presumably in a trenchcoat.
great beat...

Yeah, it's the same with me, as I was thinking of buying this album, but I didn't like any other songs but this one.
So I am glad I am able to hear it in RP

They haven't played this in the UK, so I missed it too. Never even caught it on RP.
Can't decide whether there's some substance here or whether it's just a trite, catchy tune. Either way, I dig it!!!
Saw them open for Live in, I want to say '97? My girl at the time was convinced Ed Kowalczyk was looking at her (huge crush) so I had to counter with phantom glances directed at me from Gabby Glaser (I thought she was cute). Good live band.

i had never head it either (i'm 32 1/2 years old). guess you miss out sometimes when you don't listen to the radio! :D

Kate Schellenbach (drummer for Luscious Jackson) was the original drummer for the Beastie Boys during their transition from punk to rap. Other than that -- unless they really shifted gears after this album -- it's definitely a stretch to say these girls as a group broke any ground for white female rappers.
Elecctric Honey wasn't any more rap than this album... Now their EARLIER stuff may be different, though. I've only heard a handful of songs that came previous to this album, but they didn't seem much different than this. Oh, well, music journalists aren't known for being particularly knowledgable about, well, much of anything. :D
is it just me or are is the singing completely flat?

This song kinda sucked but what a great album. This band was way too short-lived.
I like it.

these girls rock. thank you beastie boys for helping to make them happen. thank you rp for playing them.

After poor sales to Electric Honey, they broke up - most unfortunate.
I love this band, saw them several times during their run. The first time I saw them it was in a tiny club that held no more than 400 people back in '94 (Babyhead - Providence RI) and the openeing act was Ben Harper. BEN HARPER!
I miss them, talented & lovely. Seriously cool chicks!
This stunningly good track belies how mediocre some of their work was, especially on the Electric Honey LP. Too bad they lost steam.
Wasn't there a BETTER, remixed version of this that came out soon after the original?
Wow, first time I hear this again in about 8 years.
I thought Disco was dead. Somebody shoot it, quick!
I would never, ever use the term 'lucious' when referring to Laura Bush!
ewwww!
...and I am not just saying that because she married that idiot!
Phat. Sexy. Cool.
Was, and still is, a very cool tune.

I forgot how much fun this song is! I can't sit still.. ..
I really dig every Luscous Jackson song I've heard. Maybe I need to get a clue and pick up one of their albums, eh?
Great song.
It's cheap, its dirty. I want it..
Not a stupendous achievement, but a sweet riff and a style that lives in the images that the song talks about and sounds about. The singer does indeed seem to be in the rain, marvelling in the sensuousness of life and love.
That's not a small accomplishment.
The RP listeners who can't get past the fact that a particular song achieved popular success - well, I feel sorry for you.
To the poster who really, really, really got upset and posted all those negative smileys about a pop song ..... you may have more ish-shoes than just a difference in music philosophy. <-X

Might work well if you toss it into the mix with some Veruca Salt as well. "Volcano Girls" tends to be a good tune to jam out and exercise to.
i diggit enough, but it was kind of jarring coming immediately after Galactic's soulful "Bittersweet".

Wow! My first time hearing Luscious Jackson here on RP, and a good groovin' song too. Liking a lot, making me happy! :nodhead:
Awesome CD for running.
Not really my style, but it's cool & groovable. I like it. A nice piece of music.
I still like it;infectious little ditty it remains.
BTW--the band's name is based on a misspelling of Lucious Jackson, the former Philly 76er, but then someone here already knew that.

Not the best song on this great CD. I think these women were ahead of their time...
\:D/
Not their best effort IMHO, but I enjoy the groove these ladies are producing. Thumbs up ! and booty shakin'
(pimp)
i caught theses ladies as an opening act several years ago.
Much to my surprise, they did indeed "RAWK"...much more booty shakin than i was expecting.
Thumbs up!
I did always like this song, but I have to admit it does seem a little too main stream radio for RP, of course that does not mean it should not be played.
Great song - love it.
