That's 'cause he wasn't  a Hobbitt!

Lot of other music from Nickel Creek I'd prefer over this....  almost everything from their last album is awesome.
Saw Chris Thile's new band, The Punch Brothers, recently. Very different from Nickel Creek.

i agree, what a way to start my rp experience today {#Sorry}
so you drop your penny in concerning pawlowian behaviour ...
but take care: It is a short way from Nickel Creek to Nickel Crack and then Nickel Back!

Except that Bela's instrument of choice is the banjo, and Chris Thile's is the mandolin.

I would have thought Chris Thiele

I think someone got lost on his way to eBaum's World. Great troll name, btw.
I give it an 8 for Chris Thile alone. The siblings add the extra 1.

They all amaze. Saw them on their farewell tour a couple of months ago.

Anyone get the time signature(s) for this? Every time I think I have it figured out, I don't.
I believe to have spotted a fast 7/8 and a fast 9/8, apart from the recurring 'straight' 8/8
Chris Thile amazes.
More Tom Bombadil!

OMG...and you SURVIVED!
This River Daughter is a'dancin!
Wow, talk about ask and thou shalt receive -- I was complaining just yesterday about how the only Celticy-music I ever hear on RP is the from the Afrocelts! And here we are today with two in a row? Sweet.
I was UTTERLY shocked when I discovered this was not Bela Fleck.

Not sure about that but I think the key is DD.

Do it this summer, it's the last Nickel Creek tour.

Agreed. Even the 'special editions'.... Had the budget , I'll bet , just too complicated to explain why he was not effected by The Ring. Excellent tune and ref , btw. Strong 9.
amazing to see a reference to ATHF on a bluegrass song with a LOTR title. you talk about a mix of influences! ploafmaster wrote:

Great music to relax on, awesome fingerwork.
One day those kids are gonna have kids and they're going to hear so much grief about the hair on the album cover.

Such a talented group! I get worn out just listening to them play.

Women with large breasts always get an automatic upgrade. Nice mandolin playing here.
awesome play! but really no soundtrack for sleep
Wow, that made me dizzy
Looking forward to seeing them in Telluride next month.
More Nickel Creek, please. Thank you.

Love this song. But I hate, absolutely HATE Tom Bombadil. Talk about a wasted interlude in an otherwise brilliant book!
check out thiele's album, "all who wander are not lost."

Precisely for the reasons you cited. Alright, maybe not precisely. But pretty damn close. All the cutesy stuff - Bilbo's birthday bash, all the idyllic Shire nonsense, and especially that weirdly merry Tom Bombadil doofus - in LotR is, IMO, irritating. I know it's good to have a bit of contrast to all the darkness and drama, but I don't think Tolkien manages it well that often. But that's just my opinion ...
This is terrific.
Great follow-up to The Pogues. Great title, too.
That was DH's and my mantra/criticism about the LOTR series: "STILL no Tom Bombadil"

Why the hell didn't I go see them for free when I had the chance?!! And I totally agree on the Tom Bombadill thing. Yay!
Hey! Great upload! Thanks. Good New Grass... Love these guys (and the Bombadil ref) 9.
I think Nickel Creek could crap on a platter and I'd like it.
I'm sure the artist appreciates the standards by which you judge the music. Enough with the crunchy granola music this morning plsktx.

daaaaaang. fast fingeersss
virtuosinal
I'm happy to report that they are working on a third CD.
There's a lot of good newsgrass / traditional groups out there who are under 30. If you love Nickel Creek, try The Mammals, The Duhks, Hot Buttered Rum String Band, or The Greencards. It's all good! :goodvibes.gif:
I LOVE Nickel Creek. First album especially, from whence this derives. Best live show I've seen in some time.

:nodhead: They are freakin' phenomenal live!

Well, at least they gave some of his lines to Treebeard. Nice nod to the fans, I thought. I think ol' Tom would like this song.

Awesome!
Amazing!!! I can't get over these guy's. I put in this album whenever I just want to feel good. I am also glad to see a nod to Tom Bombadil. Poor guy was bumped from both Ralph Bakshi and Peter Jacksons renditions of LOTR's.
Wow. I own the CD and have heard the tune recently and hearing it now Im really impressed as if I hadn't heard it before.
This is a fun song. Very talented.
these kids are GOOD
I like it. Haven't heard any new grass really since New Grass Revival. Good stuff.

I really wanted to dismiss these kids and their "Newgrass," but everything I've heard, I like. I should never doubt Allison Krauss.
Nice ! I don't get the lyrics tho?
These "kids" have soul beyond their years. Great chops, tasty licks, inspired and meaningful lyrics (on songs that have them anyway!). I find a lot of the New Grass stuff pretty interesting and fresh. Nickel Creek is certainly at the head of that class in my book.
Nickel Creek has an amazing feel for authentic folk & bluegrass. Very talented group.
