I enjoy the song tremendously. It does not "blow". For those who say the emotion is stripped, and it is lifeless - you are entitled to your opinion. I do not share it.
Oh man, this reaaaaaaaaallllllyyyy bllllllllowwwwwwwws. But mebbe for Margo Timmons this would rock.
It just seems like the potential of her vocals were completely lost on this song. The song blandly chain-ganged through to the end. And it ends up segued with Bowie...have not been to Oxford town... okay. :ziplip.gif:
This was ok till they started with the grunts. Thanks very much but no gruntin.
i like Johnny Cash's version from Live at Folsum Prison soooooo much better...i'd say it's easily twice as good...i wish they'd play more older cash...compared to the Cash version, this song seems so emotionless and bland...
I would not torture the people who show up at my funeral with this dreck.
:verysorry: :headshake:  :fever.gif: :headache.gif:

Just had to do it.

Tell us how you really feel.
One of those songs that is persistent -- you're trying to do something else but you're compelled to look to see who the artist is. This is working for me tonight.

agreed. seems a little there trying a little too hard to develop a mood they should just let develop more naturally.
Good gawd... they managed to strip that song of all its earthy, grizzly soul...
Those fake grunts make me want to puke.
Could be Marriane Faithfull's daughter I like it. A nice contrast between the gloomy voice and the cheerful guitar playing and upbeat drums.
Love this, love this. A great take on this tune. Better than the original in my view. Really breathes life into it. Also has relevance in the present day with offshoring and technological changes in worker productivity.
The first couple times I listened to this (as opposed to heard it), I didn't like it. But it's grown on me (maybe like moss!). I'm appreciating the funky/folky reworking of the note durations (am I hearing some Dylan influences in there?). And the story line is more approachable for some reason; perhaps because of the almost spoken vocals.
I myself like it the old way
Another cool twist on an old folk song from a great band.
