Oh yeah
Your one and only life
Ripped from the earth with these bare hands
You dare
Question the ritual
Despite continual
Threats of "gonna get you all"
1 law for the officers
1 for the gentlemen
2 bad you 3 know what it's 4
5 for this awful dive
6 for the genetics
7 for the lucky pricks who went into heaven
Nightmare
We ride for miles and miles
Following the howling of our prey
Out there
Reload our yellow rigs
Scrambling for shelter
Dig a void, decay
1 for the flaming sun
2 for the location
3 for the martyrs and the stars
4 for the wind and sand
5 so you understand
6 for the slips 'twixt the cup and the lips
Come on!
1 for the cockpit blues
2 for the Panzer crews
3 for the vast and molten sky
4 for the failed talks
5 for the knives and forks
6 for forbidden kicks
All the yobbos in the sticks
(Female voice:)
C: ...10011...10011...
R: 10011...zeroes...
L: ...makeaveete, system overload, the ovual engine was not able to process all the required data in tone, tone, tone, tone...

I agree with this... sometimes takes a dozen listens before I feel like I have a grasp on what I feel. But, people who will trash on a single listen aren't (usually) trying to add to the thoughtful discourse OR inform. Very rarely a song moves me to comment on the first listen, and of those, almost all are because I liked the song. But then, this sort of thing is probably heavily influenced by your personality.

Dirge
Nice choice from The Church RP
I used this as my alarm clock song for several months. Mistake... the chiming guitar at the beginning make me cringe now. Once I get 10 seconds into the song its o.k.. though :)
Always happy to here the Church on RP though. Thanks!

I know you are but what am I? (sorry but I didn't think it deserved a response with any more maturity)
Typical teacher - obviously no opinion but yours matters

Boring nonsense

This Church tune doesn't do ANYTHING for me like some of their other tunes do.
Cool. Would love to hear more later-period The Church on RP.
8.

this is a terrible boring song and should never be played at 3:55pm
Mesmerizing indeed! Their live shows are sublime. Musical wizardry and wry anecdotes from 30 years or touring....

So true. . .
The Church has a much deeper catalog than most people will ever know if they've only been exposed to "Under the Milky Way." I think they're one of the more underappreciated bands of the last couple decades, along with Catherine Wheel and The Afghan Whigs.

...bastard universe was the bonus disc to hologram of baal, and while a good listen isn't really a proper studio album, more of a jam session, really...i'll admit that i haven't 'gotten' any of their most-recent albums following after everything now this: from forget yourself onward they sound like unfinished efforts to my ears, demo albums more than finished productions...
...this one, though, after everything now this is an outstanding album...
There were a couple of records I didn't really get... but by far I loved the majority of them. Trying to remember the album that had like 4 tracks, each like 20 minutes long...
Edit: I was thinking of Bastard Universe. I probably should revisit it, but I remember being disappointed, which is rare for a Church album (for me).

The Church is just so good, period. One of the very best bands, ever; period. Too good for commercial radio—thanks Bill—and every lp/cd they have made over the years is solid, period. Check out Kilbey's blog at https://www.stevekilbey.blogspot.com/
Man, I need to change my wake up song... this song that I used to love is starting to give me the jibblies when I hear that guitar part kick in. NO, I DON'T WANT TO GREET THE DANGED DAY STEVE!
Seriously though, cool song... I do need to change my cd/clock alarm track :(

A nice transition away from Coldplay.
Always an avid listener of the Church.
The Church... indispensable, poetic, mesmerizing, creative.
Awesome - another cool, etheric song from The Church
Precede this with Bauhaus or Peter Murphy, follow with Daniel Ash and some Disintegration-era Cure, and the RP goth mini-movement will be complete. Quite likeable tune from the poet Kilbey and mates.
Was that the dulcet tones of Agnes, default Mac text-to-speech voice, reporting an error at the end of the song?
...outstanding album - quiet, subtle, takes quite a few listenings to grow, but masterful...
Steve Kilbey, Robert Smith...Robert Smith, Steve Kilbey...now you two kids go play out in the yard.
Man, The Church is one of the best bands ever. Fantastic track selection....great song.
it seems like a song like this has been coming out every few years for decades,.........
now it's a song.
