A laugh for the way my life has gone
A laugh for the love of a friend
A laugh for the fools in the eyes of the world
The love that will never end
Ha Ha Ha...
Let's hear a laugh for the man of the world
Who thinks he can make things work
Tried to build the New Jerusalem
And ended up with New York
Ha Ha Ha...
A laugh for the sun redballing
Through the thermal inversion haze
A laugh for the nuclear good-time boys
Numbering all our days
Ha Ha Ha...
A laugh for the newsprint nightmare
A world that never was
Where the questions are all "why?"
And the answers are all "because."
Ha Ha Ha...
A laugh for the dogs barking at our heels
They don't know where we've been
A laugh for the dirty window pane
Hiding the love within
Ha Ha Ha...
Tapping our feet to an ancient tune
A laugh for the time gone by
A laugh for me and Kitty in the delivery room
Waiting for the child's first cry
Ha Ha Ha...
A laugh for the love of a friend
A laugh for the fools in the eyes of the world
The love that will never end
Ha Ha Ha...

One of my Absolute Songwriting/Guitar-Playing/Song-Singing Heroes!
So nice to hear this old gem on RP :)

Just saw him in Victoria BC. He came out hunched over with a cane.
This was one of his most popular audience sing alongs because, lets face it, if you don’t laugh these days, you’ll cry.
If you’ve never seen him, I strongly suggest you go. Aging like fine wine but with a best before shelf life. Underrated guitar playing.
..wow the first time I skipped six songs in a row on RP especially Fleetfoxes my all time most disliked band , too early in the morning for even a mild tolerance for that schlock!

I like several of his songs, but this one sucks. PSD

Never really "got" Cockburn.
Nice flute!
RP: this needs more airplay, please.
His voice sounds so young in this song. Love BC.

Sublime.... outstanding... thanks, RP.
Bruce's new disc comes out Tuesday, July 18th. I've heard some snipits and it sounds great.

He's got a funny last name, to say the most.

I find that getting older does that to one.
Nice to hear the younger, more innocent, naive Bruce, though.
He said "thermal inversion haze" in this song!
Yeah, he's good with the words.
Anyone who refers to humans as "busy monsters" (in If a Tree Falls), thus quoting e.e.cummings (pity this busy monster, manunkind) is okay by me!

Automatic rating of 8.

Good to hear some early Cockburn, back in the christan folkie series of LPs. So many of his newer songs don't reflect the joy he once found in the everyday events of life.

Bruce Lives in my town. Wonderful choice of his offerings.
Thanks
Haven't heard any Bruce for a while. This was a pleasure.
Any Bruce is great Bruce. This album is very over-looked. Feast of Fools is my fav on this album.
VERY recognizable, and pleasant... Go BC.
Ah, I was surprised to hear this song! I enjoy the 70s Bruce Cockburn material, and this song is a particular favourite. Many thanks for playing.
A great songwriter and performer who deserves more airplay in this country. Some of the edgier political stuff from his 80's albums, which is quite different from this, would fit in nicely here also.
Nice selection from a wonderful songwriter.
Never really "got" Cockburn.
Your loss, i'm afraid.
