You and I
Tempted by the promise of a different life
Time has fled
There's a constant battle running through my head
I don't know what to do
'Cause I still believe
After all the foolish things that we've been through
I will always be a man who's open to.....
Persuasion

Blind romance
There'll be no half measures given half the chance
But we never learn
Trusting in the fire while the cruel flame burns
And we need to rebuild
What was never there
What got left behind
After all the foolish things that we've been through
I can always make a start on something new
And I'll always be a man who's open to.....
Persuasion

And it's written in my heart
So that everybody could see it
And it's written in my soul
After all I still believe it
I still believe it
I still believe it yeah
I still believe

I don't know what to do, 'cause I still believe
After all the foolish things you put me through
I can always make a start on someting new
And I'll always be a man who's open to.....
Persuasion, persuasion

Topic of this tune saddens me. I wish more people were open to persuasion. It requires being heard and understood along with an appropriate amount of listening. Seems these days it's a rarity.

Superb song, timeless and imho the best version....

The lost Finn bro! Not here in NZ - he predates Neil by some years with his work in Split Enz

Tim deserves to be as famous as his little brother, Neil.
The lost Finn bro!
Nowhere else will you hear this song.  Thanks, RP!!!
The comments about Richard and Teddy are right. What an awesome song.
I'm kind of surprised by the large number of negative ratings of this song. I've always really liked it. I'm not as familiar with the Richard Thompson version, but as I remember I liked that as well.

Tim did this wonderful song in the Finn Bros. tour a few years ago. It was smoother than this, very, very nice. But as much as I love it, I do think Richard Thompson's version is better, at least the studio version.

Richard has a bit of history on Tim, but both are bona fide genius'.
Superb rendition!

still no richard and teddy, huh...? :(
Curiously, it's been rejected a couple of times, I think. Don't know why because it's by far the best version.....
the thompson version is so much better
Awesome song...melody by Richard Thompson (from The Sweet Talker soundtrack). Lyrics by Tim Finn. Amen.
Have not heard a song in the last weeks that is so much off target to be worth being played at RP
There's an excellent live version of this.

This one really is too um .. you're right... jangly.

edit, think I'll take that comment back. I enjoyed that second time through.
I hate whining!

Reminds me a lot of Crowded House. Any connection?
Indeed there is. Tim Finn is Crowded House frontman Neil Finn's brother, and was part of the band for one album (Woodface).

beautiful song -- sadly, this particular rendition is NOWHERE near as beautiful and haunting as the duet between Richard & Teddy Thompson. i'll see if i can upload a copy of that version when i get home tonight, because really -- everyone should hear that track. (ps -- this song was something of a a collaboration between Richard Thompson, who wrote the music as an instrumental originally, and Tim Finn, who put the lyrics to it afterwards...)
Too bad I missed it, I know of that great version by R & T Thompson
still no richard and teddy, huh...? :(
I also second the general comments on this version of the song as compared to RT & Teddy's. The latter is soooo beautiful and heartbreaking while this version seems fluffy and jangly; strange to think it was Tim who penned the lyrics. :-k

Great song from the best solo CD Tim Finn has put out. Shows that he doesn't always have to hide in the shadow of his talented younger brother, Neil.
i THOUGH IT WAS MICHAEL PENN

Agreed. This is good, but the Richard & Teddy Thompson version is superior. Has that Richard Thompson wistful ache thing going on.
Absolutely correct. Hope that version shows up soon.
