I can feel the heat, no one has to tell me
It's so good, once it starts I'll never let go
I can feel the beat like a Spanish dancer
Under my feet, making the world go 'round, I can't come down
You can't hold me when I get to feeling this way
It's all over, I'm inside that music that's playing
It takes me out across the wall
It makes my life a carnival
I go out on the street and take my chances
Don't even have to ask, I know the answers

By the lack of comments, this has not been played in some time. I snagged it into my favorites list and am glad to hear it myself. I probably wore out the cassette (you young'uns will need to google that term) on this one back in the day.

Oh my, this is godawful. Is that a keytar? Or just a Casio on "elevator funk demo" mode? Here's a guy who did some legendary stuff early on, followed by 20 years of steaming dung. See also: Clapton.

Holds up very well even after all these years

This one doesn't compare favorably - those hokey keyboard accent notes are really starting to irritate me.
Back in the High Life was both uber popular and frequently brilliant...

US Platinum LP, all the way, baby. The eponymous 1977 solo album is quite fine, a little low key.
For those of us who grew up on a diet of Spencer Davis, Traffic and Blind Faith. this Steve Winwood's 80's syntho drivel amounted to nothing more than a Rod Stewart-style sellout.

Agreed!

Excellent - great old school rocker doing techo-pop before it was even imagined, a few years later.
Slowly going nowhere.
"You can feel the street, like a Spansh dancer, under your feet." This album is superb for late nights and deep thoughts.
Remember this album from the time, but not this track. Doesn't work for me – 2.

You guys are so insightful.
I remember playing this album to death when it first came out. He never really followed it up with something as good.

Great album, too.
Oh, yeah...the summers of '80 and '81, riding around with this on the car stereo, the divine Lisa H on my mind and sometimes beside me, though never often enough...so long ago, yet it felt like yesterday when this song came on just now, first time since then, I think...

Thanks, RP, for the incredible flashback!

Wow, completely forgot about this one.
Must be at least 25 years since I heard it... still like it a lot

Too much Steve Winwood the last couple weeks! His voice is annoying with frequent doses.
I never actually owned this album, relying only on radio airplay of its hits.....but this is excellent! I should still get it!

You should check out his 2003 album, "About Time". In my opinion it's as good, if not better.

Great song and best album before "About Time", which is an underrated and exceptional album.
Paramount Theater, Rutland, 30-06-2009. Stunning Blind Faith cover in the closing set on a stellar evening of blues as only Susan can bring it - with her strong vocals and impressive guitar licks - she's in a class all her own.
I've always loved Winwood as a singer and keyboardist. He's also a decent guitar player, and unlike many of his contemporaries, his high-tech stuff during the 80s was actually pretty good. Spanish Dancer's a prime example.
