You burden me with your questions
You'd have me tell no lies
You're always asking what it's all about
But don't listen to my replies
You say to me I don't talk enough
But when I do I'm a fool
These times I've spent, I've realized
I'm going to shoot through
And leave you

The things, you say
Your purple prose just gives you away
The things, you say
You're unbelievable

You burden me with your problems
By telling me more than mine
I'm always so concerned
With the way you say
You've always go to stop
To think of us being one
Is more than I ever know
But this time, I realize
I'm going to shoot through
And leave you

The things, you say
Your purple prose just gives you away
The things, you say
You're unbelievable

Seemingly lastless, don't mean
You can ask us
Pushing down the relative
Bringing out your higher self
Think of the fine times
Pushing down the better few
Instead of bringing out the clues
To want the world and everything your asked to
Brace yourself with the grace of ease
I know this world ain't what it seems
(What the fuck was that?)
(It's unbelievable)

You burden me with your questions
You'd have me tell no lies
You're always asking what it's all about
But don't listen to my replies
You say to me I don't talk enough
But when I do I'm a fool
These times I've spent, I've realized
I'm going to shoot through
And leave you

The things, you say
Your purple prose just gives you away
The things, you say
It's why I love you more
The things, you say
Your purple prose just gives you away
The things, you say
You're unbelievable

Oh!
You're unbelievable

I Agree! Completely!
The “Oh” sample comes from US comedian Andrew Dice Clay, that was released on Def Jam. The band therefore had to get hold of anyone in the Def Jam office to clear the sample. They were flown to Los Angeles to meet EMI.

If y'all don't know Andrew Dice Clay's humor, you may be a bit shocked, 😂 lol

Somehow, I ended up with a CD of his in the 90's that my wife, to this day, still won't let me play when she's around.
😆
He is certainly crass & a dastardly womanizing pig.
It's one of those guys where you go...
...I can't help but laugh, but, damn son.
I *LOVE* this song..  But am I the only one who hears "Only love can break your heart" in the background piano over and over again?
If we're going to use 80s samples I recommend some Mr. T.  "Don't gimme that jibba jabba!"

Amen to that. Sometimes I wish we could add a qualifier to our ratings - Likeable but really annoying.

Interesting comment! I sort of agree. I have to give it more thought. Brings back memories!  PS:  Where is that guy that always comments:  "more cowbell"? LOL!
Love this tune. Brings back memories from an "unbelievable" decade.

O M G this is so frickin danceable. You know are you are girl
I haven't heard this in a long time! Brings back memories. Thanx RP!
This song hits a very specific time in my life that was great and hearing it always makes me happy.
It's a shame that this was their only hit. I love the style!
I remember singing this song when it came out in '91, over and over, as I was removing myself from an unpleasant situation.  I still find myself dancing to it as I recall getting out of that situation to something better.

It seems that those who like this are remembering enjoyable events where this was a soundtrack. However, is this a good piece of music? Not to me. When the standard is "I was high as a kite and yet can still remember the music that was playing", maybe the ratings should factor this in. I however don't see the merits of this piece.
You make too many assumptions. I rate you a 1.

What is EMF? Electromotive Force?

Wiki has a portion on this:

The name EMF is believed to be an acronym of Epsom Mad Funkers, a name taken from a fan club of the band New Order.[2]

The song "Head the Ball", which featured on the remix single release of "Lies," featured the repeating lines "electromotive force" and "ecstasy mother fucker". On the band's 1991 album Schubert Dip, after the song "Longtime", there is a hidden track titled "EMF". In this, the chorus lyrics start off with "E for Ecstasy, M for my mind's in my feet, F from us to you" and then move on to "E for Ecstasy, M for mother fucker mother fucker, F from us to you".

I've always gone with "English Mother Fuckers" myself....

Long Live RP!!

What is EMF? Electromotive Force?

Most Excellent!! The date is wrong though. Should be 1991. I remember the time period very well. I had just gotten home from the Gulf war.

Same here...I'm this close to going 8→9...and while I wasn't in the Gulf War in '91, I was a freshman in HS and this was FOR SURE one of the few non-Rap tracks I liked back then.  I think the date issue comes up though because it was released as a single only back then....maybe it was re-released on the album in 2000.  Still...I say Long Live RP!!

banger
nuthin' wrong with it. not only probably only on RP, but quite consistent - witness shearwater that follows.
Nice! I embarrass my tween terribly by surreptitiously dancing to this whenever I hear it in public.

Sounded like a cross between Nick Drake and Gordon Lightfoot.
On RP, if I reach over and turn up the volume on a song, then I automatically channel a Bill-an-Ted-inspired "Most Excellent"!
The lyrics work just as fine if you substitute "unacceptable" for "unbelievable". Thanks
What the fuck WAS that?
There's Nothing that gets by Bill
I loved the "Rave New World" compilation that this was on ages ago.

Au contraire, Shmelo - I give it an 8. Could have been a 7, but you provoked me. I suspect that this sort of diversity is what most of us come to RP for. pxd
Wha Wah Woah!  Fun song.
Garbage.
Always enjoyed this song, when it was first out!
Over-commercialized , although its not the songs or the artists fault for it. This song is like a screw going into my head reminding me of any crappy car commercial that is made .
Funny (but good) to hear on RP.  Album kind of bad tho...I would prefer Jesus Jones instead.

This hasn't been played on RP in 12 years?
I'm not sure if the transition from the Staples to this is jarring or brilliant. Maybe both...
Haha!! Good ol' days! Thanks for this. :D :D
GREAT SONG !
You have GOT to be kidding me.
I haven't heard EMF since High School. Brings back the memories :)
Used to bounce around in the car to this. Amusing nostalgia now.
