The way things go, you get so low
Struggle to find your skin
Well hey ho, look out below
Your prayers will never be answered again
Phones still ring and singers sing
Speakers are speaking in code
What now, well anyhow
Our prayers will never be answered again
You know it's all beginning
To feel like it's ending
No love's as random as God's love
I can't stand it, I can't stand it
The way things get, you get so high
Funny how we make new friends
Well hey ho, I gotta go
My prayers will never be answered again
You know it's all beginning
To feel like it's ending
No love's as random as God's love
I can't stand it, I can't stand it
Speakers singing, speakers speaking
Speaking in code
Speakers singing, speakers speaking
Speaking in code
You know it's all beginning
To feel like pretending
No love's as random as my love
I can't stand it, I can't stand it
Your prayers will never be answered again

I saw Wilco on stage last year. Very disappointed. Some band are better on radio than live. Whatever it still good on RP.
This gets an 8. I like most of Wilco, the hook and I just downed a Chopin martini
Pretty solid band! Yeah!

It's a good album...still kind of trippy and edgy. However, I think their most recent albums have gone too soft.
Best Wilco album? Underrated anyway.

Sounds like the-second-sort-Kinks. 4.
SOLID SOUND THIS WEEKEND!!
My intro to Wilco was with this album. A neighbor had me listen to Summerteeth (and Queens of the Stone Age). Thank GOD for good taste and old fashioned music sharing. My fav was We're Just Friends.
not my favorite Wilco song...that guitar bit gets stuck in my head and I can't chase it out
Just saw them at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown NY — great outdoor show, great beer, great music, great time!

Most bands can only dream about writing and performing songs that are this good. A solid 10!

A lessor Wilco song is better than most — a good Wilco song is on another level. Hail Tweedy.
Sounds like Cake except that it rhymes.
Blech!

Good band, good tune.
I thought I had this CD (I did not). I just bought it
Don't tell anyone they're good
Nice!

No loves as randon as god's love, I can't stand it.
This was the cd my friend gave me to become familiar with WILCO in 2003...Played it til the sun came up and then went through their whole catalogue...now my favorite band of the last 20 years...Tweedy is in a class alone.
sorry ~ had to

Amen. We canceled our sat subscription partly because of that. Muchmusic has gone the same way; not much left out there for a music lover.

The baseline makes me think of Savoy Brown.

You left out the part where, having demanded a single, Warner absolutely buried it. Do you recall seeing the video on MTV?

As dull as Jim Lehrer on the Colbert Report.

That's truer than you might think.
When Wilco submitted Summerteeth to Warner Bros., "Can't Stand It"
wasn't on the album; the album was otherwise as released,
with "She's A Jar" batting leadoff and all else following.
The company rejected it, saying it needed a grab-you pop song,
something that could be released as a single (they felt it had no singles).
Wilco whipped up "Can't Stand It" out of nothing, pronto, on demand.
The company approved, the album got released, and when
the whole stupid dance happened all over again with the next album,
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Wilco bought out their contract and left Warner.
Great pop history lesson -- appreciate it.

Yeah, the guitar riff before he says, "Can't stand it," is similar.

We can all be thankful for the great li'l pop song Wilco produced out of nothing but it's also a a fascinating insight into the industry - and, as you say, what ended up happening with Wilco's next album.

Wilco knows how to work the suits .... give them what the suits think they want, make it a hit and laugh all the way to the bank.
Wilco is very fresh, very dedicated, very important and very good ...

Simply put: one the best contemporary American Rock bands... period... smart, fresh, innovative, It really doesn't get much better.
Yep, aptly named song - does what it says on the tin. Nice instrumentals, shame about the voice... :(
Wilco and out.
Wilco and out.
I have not been able to become a fan of Wilco despite many attempts, but I really, really like this song (and a couple others off this album).
Dammit, I love this...
Does anyone here the beginnings of "You're so vain" in the chorus?
eelsy too...

Just piggybacking to recommend that for some red-blooded U.S. of A. fare, you should seek out the album "From Hell to Breakfast, a Taste of Sugar Hill's Texas Singer-Songwriters." Some truly amazing tuba and banjo playing, but especially the little-used tuba. Or is it a bass horn? Some poignant lyrics, great ballads, inventive tunes, and lots of change of pace. I recommend that everyone own this album and send Sugar Hill a clear message!
The catalog review: From Townes Van Zandt, generally revered as THE Texan music poet, to some of Austin's best recent live acts, The Bad Livers and the Gourds, this compilation covers all the bases of the Texas singer-songwriter tradition. The renaissance man Terry Allen, the witty Austin Lounge Lizards, the current dean of Texas songwriters--Guy Clark . . . this compilation is the perfect introduction to the wealth of great Texas-style music on Sugar Hill Records. Fifteen tracks, a truly TEXAS-sized helping of good music, are on this sampler. With Sugar Hill's incomparable stable of Texas artists, this is one of the best Texas music compilations available anywhere.

I hope everyone enjoys!

Not a big fan of this band, but I REALLY like this song!
This CD is one of those rare discs that, when inserted into my player, lives there for days and days and days. I just love it. Gimme this and The Jayhawks Hollywood Town Hall, Greatful Dead American Beauty the new Scissor Sisters albums and I could drive from here (Chicago) to L.A. and back and never be happier.

a good song from a GREAT album, "Summer Teeth" !!! Try listening
to Shot In The Arm......powerful !! Each Wilco album seems to eclipse
the previous one for me, anyway, but after hearing this song again I'm
reminded of how good the album really is......thanks RP....
I'm lovin' listening to you!!
Great song, great record, great band.
More Wilco!!!
Great album...
Easily the most pop song on this record, and a great opener. Bells add a nice touch.
