Out of the night burning with light
Train shining black, I won't look back, life is running
Hoping some day someone will say I got it made
Pull up the shade, let the sun in

Down on the night train, I feel the starlight steal away
Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day

Border patrol looking through me
Towns without names all look the same, I hear crying
Paris to Spain, countries in pain
Caught up in flight, feeling the sight, Europe dying

Rolling on, hear the wheels singing, fever keep coming on so strong
My ticket paid, trying to fade
I hope I get there not just somewhere I was leaving
Out in the dark all the wolves bark
I fold my arms try to keep warm by believing

Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on
Everybody they're so alone down on the night train

love when psd sets me up with solid gold like this!  : )
You can't go wrong with a disco groove in my book, but Mr. Winwood sounds flat in more than one place in this song.  Yes this was before autotune, but many other artists were doing just fine.  Bleh...
For people of my age this is probably the first Steve Winwood we heard.  It wasn't until I got old enough to control the radio dial that I found out about Traffic and SDG.  Haven't heard this one for decades. 6

That's gotta be the WEIRDEST "Ratings Dist." that I've ever seen on RP.

Are we conflicted?

Personally, I like the song, disco beat and all. Cool guitar solo!

Good call...always enjoyed this one and it's held up well over time imho.  8

Maybe it's my $9 computer speakers or maybe it's a knee-jerk reaction to that quasi disco beat, but found this tune rather off-putting. I've never heard it before so hopefully it'll get better after further listens.

Since the song was released 30 years ago I doubt that it will go into heavy rotation now.

We used to have a bar here in Tucson on 4th Avenue called the Night Train...

Not uncommon distribution with only 21 votes in so far.  Wait until the number grows and you'll see it smooth out like all the others . . .
or perhaps not.

I always thought this album was one of Winwood's weaker efforts but this is a great tune.

Good one.

He's known as an ace keyboardist, but I've always loved his guitar work.
Great album...just listened to it again after years...however, i think it could use a remaster as the version I listened to came off a bit flat.
Been a long time since I heard this-thanks Bill!
Tasty stuff that Night Train.

Great song! Wonder why it has never been played. Gonna request it.

Next to Second Hand Woman this is the best track of Arc of a Diver. Actually the whole album is awsome and it is beyond us all why this has never ever been played on RP. Although very 70ties with a slight hint of Eric Clapton. This is one of the major artist of the era. Just consider that mr. Steve Winwood has played every single instrument heard on this album.  A great artist.
