She plays castanets, she works without a net
I like her better when she walks away
She said she was mine, she told me twice
I like her better when she walks away

Yeah, I like her better when she walks away
I like her better when she never stays
I like her better when she danced my way
I like her better when she walks away

I love the sun when it silouhettes
I like her better when she walks away
I love her hair fallin' across my face
I like her better when she walks away

She plays castanets, she works without a net
I like her better when she walks away
She turns me on like a pick up truck
I like her better when she walks away

I love the sun shinin' through her dress
I like her better when she walks away
I like her hair in a tangled mess
I like her better when she walks away

Yeah, I like her better when she walks away
I like her better when she never stays
I like her better when she danced my way
I like her better when she walks away

I thought this was going to be Revolution by the Beatles at the start.....

Love the way the sun shines through her dress.
Great!

Okay, I can kinda see/hear that similarity.
But come on, that's a great song!
(Also, pretty sure it was a '90s song, unless you first heard them touring it in the 80s before the album release.)

You are CORRECT  (let's ignore that part) OR - consider her walking toward you is really a "walking away"?! ;)

One of my favorite artists.  I lived in Austin for 9 years and went to see him many, many times.  Definitely not the same show each time.  Sometimes solo, sometimes with a rocking band, sometimes with strings and one time a big production event with a host of guest artists in the Austin City Limits - Moody theater.

I saw him a few months ago in Zurich at a very small club, there couldn't have been more than about 50 people there - which is a real shame.  He was solo that night supporting his new CD "The Crossing".  Solo because he sent his band Don Antonio ahead for a date in Italy the next night.  The club was so small I have no idea how they would have all fit.

I got to char for a few minutes after the show with he and his lovely wife about life in Austin.
Got to see him at a small theater in Ithaca, NY last February. He and his band were amazing! Catch his show if you can...
Somewhere Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Gutterball, The Baseball Project) is smiling.

The story I heard goes like this: When Mr. Escovedo learned that this song was in fact in George's iPod the result was a three-year, self-imposed ban on performing the song at his shows. I hope that's true because it's a classic move. And as far as George being the devil, I offer the following line of dialogue from the 1987 movie Broadcast News, as deliverd by Albert Brooks' character: "What do you think the Devil is going to look like if he's around? Nobody is going to be taken in if he has a long, red, pointy tail. No. I'm semi-serious here. He will look attractive and he will be nice and helpful and he will get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation and he will never do an evil thing ... he will just bit by little bit lower standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance ... " Sound familiar?

Wow, 11 years ago and the same conversation is still going on; just with a new republican. Guess this is a good place to continue singing the same tune!
I found out about AE three years ago, through a good buddy. Borrowed a couple of CDs. Couldn't believe that I was so completely unaware! Then we went to see him here at a good intimate venue. Damn! He and his band were all fine. Just excellent musicians and performers. Highly recommended. Oh, the other two bands that played were Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys. What a $&*#! superb concert!!!!
Well, it hit me, this guy sounds like one of my (many) favorites...Jimmy Buffet.
I freakin' love this tune! One of the best rock & roll songs ever. Lyrics are great.

He's so good live in concert.
Going to see AE next weekend at Old Town School of Folk Music!  Great small venue.  Great Artist!

Rock'n song and I love the words 'I love her better when she walks away'.
hot tune  8 )
Rated an 8 by me, despite the fact that I only learned of it by finding out it was on GWB's playlist. If the artist can live with that (and he can, as per comments below), so can I. pxd

First time hearing and thought same - maybe some unheard live version until it was different enough that i realised
More AE please.
c'mon Bill, play the whole album
you know you want to  {#Yes}
First time to catch or notice this one, but wow, yeah, it's pretty funny and cool, with a decidedly different kind of groove going on here...
Pretty excellent jam! Makes me want to form a garage band and play it. Yeah, it is that good.
great rock tune!

As ugly as the album cover. 4 here.
this album is so good
i think it's his best
or at least the best i have heard
i'd rate the whole album a 9
if i had the option
Reminds me a little of the Gourds.
That's a pretty hot kick ass tune.

if you have a chance to see him live DON'T MISS IT!
Freebird Live in Jacksonville Florida... unfortunately named venue for a fabulous place of entertainment

Yes it was a soliloquy delivered by Mary Katherine Gallagher. (Molly Shannon on SNL)

I saw him in Oklahoma City in July. He's very healthy and happy and putting on GREAT shows. I strongly encourage everyone to see him live, even if it takes a road trip to do it. The CDs are great but you'll really be impressed by the concert. His band is great. Each of them makes a big contribution. I usually don't even notice drummers but Hector Munoz is freaking brilliant the way he supports Al's music! If you're willing to travel to OKC next spring, Al will be doing two nights at the Blue Door, one acoustic and one with the band. I can hardly wait.

According to his Wikipedia entry, he was declared free of HepC last year. He's formed a new band, The Alejandro Escovedo Quintet, with former True Believer stablemate Jon Dee Graham. One for the good guys.

Not the devil. He's the Anti-Christ. You may have read about him in your Bible--Check Revelations. It's all there...
This is one repetitive annoying song

Reminds me of a news story I read a couple of days ago. https://www.washingtonpost.com
After a governor's office aide gave a mug of tea to Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer at a meeting, he watched her walk away, appearing to stare at her backside, then motioned for her to return and told her, "Walk away again."
Still lovin' the guitar.

He's well enough to perform now. I saw him a few months ago and he put on a show that was simply amazing. If you get a chance to see him live, don't miss it.

catchy!
Yeah, Alejandro! More please! \:D/
It's nice to hear this again.

Yeah, ignore it. I refuse to believe it's on his iPod...and if it is, it's because he's trolling for more Hispanic support -- or maybe because he thought it really was going to be a song with castanets... And hey, it didn't register before, but every time I hear that guitar riff I'm expecting the Beatles' "Revolution"

No, he wrote it. There is a tribute album to him and Los Lonely Boys does this on the tribute album. The guy has major medical problems and the tribute album is a fundraiser for him.

a good song in an overall excellent album. It would be great to hear some more songs from this cd. :D

If you ask me, it's a 10. Alejandro is a terrific singer songwriter. There is a tribute album that covers his music, and this song is covered by Los Lonely Boys. Alejandro has HepC, and so the album is to raise funds for his medical bills. Buy it, if you like his stuff and if you want to help him out. Thanks for finally playing this, Bill!
