You take the skyway, high above the busy little one-way
In my stupid hat and gloves, at night I lie awake
Wonderin' if I'll sleep
Wonderin' if we'll meet out in the street
But you take the skyway
It don't move at all like a subway
It's got bums when it's cold like any other place
It's warm up inside
Sittin' down and waitin' for a ride
Beneath the skyway
Oh, then one day, I saw you walkin' down that little one-way
Where, the place I'd catch my ride most everyday
There wasn't a damn thing I could do or say
Up in the skyway
Skyway
Skyway (sky away)
In my stupid hat and gloves, at night I lie awake
Wonderin' if I'll sleep
Wonderin' if we'll meet out in the street
But you take the skyway
It don't move at all like a subway
It's got bums when it's cold like any other place
It's warm up inside
Sittin' down and waitin' for a ride
Beneath the skyway
Oh, then one day, I saw you walkin' down that little one-way
Where, the place I'd catch my ride most everyday
There wasn't a damn thing I could do or say
Up in the skyway
Skyway
Skyway (sky away)

Love the Replacements and the skyways in Mpls.
Great album, but not a great song. There is much better to choose from on this lp. A lot more if you go back further.
ahhh. love.

So, so, tune. Wasn't all that impressed. I know RP can do a lot better...

I love the Replacements - "You be me for awhile, and I'll be you..."

I think they need to be replaced
My favorite 'Mats tune. It has helped me wake up and face the day countless times. Thanks Bill.
Always makes me miss Minneapolis....

Nope, don't have 'em. Sunny and 75 degrees in the winter, and summer, in San Diego.

i live in the Replacement's home town, and a recently had a cousin visit from out of state. Our elaborate skyway system came up in conversation and he had no idea what i was talking about. so, to clarify for those who may not know, a skyway is that enclosed bridge walkway thing between buildings—skyscrapers usually, and usually a story or two above the street. ...not sure about other cities, but they are everywhere in Minneapolis—probably because it sucks walking outside in the winter—and have shops and various vendors along them.

Great album.
It's amazing this is the only cut off of it on the Main.
Bizarre.
Oh. The other ones lean a little Power Poppy.

Sure sounds like a replacement. Gotta give it up for people who know their limitations and name themselves accordingly :)
From Wiki:
After the other band members discovered first-generation English punk bands like The Clash, Dogbreath changed their name to The Impediments and played a drunken performance without Tommy Stinson at a church hall gig in June 1980. After being banned from the venue for disorderly behaviour, they changed their name to the Replacements. In an unpublished memoir, Mars later explained the band's choice of name: "Like maybe the main act doesn't show, and instead the crowd has to settle for an earful of us dirtbags. <...> It seemed to sit just right with us, accurately describing our collective 'secondary' social esteem".
OMG. i love it.

Songs do not get more beautifully simple than this one. No matter what climate you live in.

We usually use underground cities here in Canuckistan... Toronto's PATH and Montreal's RESU are two of the largest in the world.
When I heard Skyway, I thought of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_N._Allan_Skyway_Bridge
Good song, though. :)

Jeez, you'd think you would know how to spell the name of your home city, but that seems to not be your only problem.
Make up your F*&%#@ng mind! Is it good or not?
