Oh come on! I upload Tower of Power "You're Still a Young Man" and it gets nixed, but this little ditty is accepted!? Where is the justice?

Come to think about it, I've never heard anything by them here on RP.  WTF?  Who would nix Tower of Power?
Every once in a while I have to stop what I'm doing, go over to my computer and make sure I'm still listening to Radio Paradise.  Every once in a while....
From the "Never thought I'd hear it on RP" file.
Gotta say it's not my cup of tea.
Looks better with the gatefold jacket open.
the blurry edge between funk and disco
Makes me chuckle. I was there then. And still all these years later, a pretty bitchin' song.
Probably a half dozen local funk bands in my town if I wanted to hear this music. Not against funk (or any genre of music) but why this?

Haven't heard the Chili Peppers' version, but I am sure that Flea could make the baseline soar.

Oh does he ever! I knew a cover band that covered this song, and you could tell they were covering the Chili Peppers cover by how much fun the bass player was having. {#Guitarist}
I seem to remember this being used in the Beavis and Butthead movie
There was a brief time in my young days when I lived about 2 blocks away from Ohio Players, in Dayton, Ohio, and they had a BIG, cool party house along my walk to the local library.  As a 4th grader, I walked past their house because they parked the band's big 'ole bus right there on the street, and that bus had a much larger-than-life mural of the most awesome bare-bosomed Nubian woman reclining down the bus' entire length!!  Wow, just what young lads love to gaze at, LOL! {#Hearteyes}

Now I really enjoy their music, thanks for the play RP.
I love how RP helps me catch up.
This band was hot. Skin Tight was my jam!
Based on the gap since the last commentary, I'd guess this hasn't been played in some time.

Oh and it's definately a generational thing. When I want an non-anemic, power house feel to a song I'll take a big, fat, horn section over an overly processed guitar anyday.
Problem is, that horn section isn't enough to overcome the low energy singing, etc. This song should be groovier, funkier, more Sly & the Family Stone-ish. Just my $0.02.

If Bill is aware of the "alley rape" urban legend, then this segue is a little stroke of genius: reference the "Pepper" lyric re: "football-player rapist." Or maybe this is all in my head...
The urban legend, concerning this is in fact that of a murder, not a rape, and has been denounced, numerous times. The UL goes like this: Disgrunteled girfriend of (insert band member name here) breaks into studio control room during recording, with a knife, intent on murdering previously mentioned band member. In the struggle that ensues, she is stabbed by producer, engineer, gopher, in control room and her dying scream can be heard in the song. Bollocks. Oh and it's definately a generational thing. When I want an non-anemic, power house feel to a song I'll take a big, fat, horn section over an overly processed guitar anyday.
Maybe it's a generational thing but the Chilli Peppers' version blows this outta the water. This original is anemic sounding by comparison.

Funny how certain songs can instantly transport you to a different time and place. This one took me back to the local skating rink of my pre-adolescent youth. The disco ball lighting up the floor, and the whole place singin' at the top o' their lungs ..... like any of us actually knew the first thing about love, much less the rollercoaster it can be .... ahhh, the simpler days. :roll:
Like a wise man once said: "Free you mind and your will follow!" 9/10
I'm curious how "Love Rollercoaster" follows "Pepper"... hurm.
Why? Why? Why?
Junior high slumber-party lore has it that a rape took place in the alley outside the studio where this song was recorded, and that you can hear the victim scream during this song... ...pure stuff and nonsense, of course. But it scared the bejeezus out of us 12-year olds at the time, lemme tell ya!
Yow.
OH YEAH!!!
Horrible horrible! What were you thinking?
Get this CRAP off the air.
