Bruce nails it, notably the 16th notes. Clapton and Baker more than hold their own.
Perfect Cream.
Props to uncredited Starr.

So real now after all these years.

One of the things I love about the old surf music is that nobody really knew what 'rock and roll' was supposed to sound like. For example, hearing a sax on lead seems odd to us now, because the genre has been codified into bass, drums, two guitars. But at the time, those 'rules' were only just being written, and there was a tremendous diversity in the sound of what we consider 'rock and roll'.

Morphine disagrees about the sax.

I used to work with a guy who played lead in a surf band, The Sandblasters. Made a couple CDs too, worth looking for if you dig surf music.

I love when genres of music are so specific that they yank you out of your chair and bring you somewhere else...

Thought this might be of interest.  Bought a long time ago at a surf shop.  Has great tunes on it.

Pulp Fiction {#Clap}

Almost a DIck Dale but more subtle and better for the flavors.

Hit the surfing websites and watch/listen all day....
Endless Summer like Bruce Brown did it wayback when. More surf, more music, less yak-yak-yak-yak-STFU already
The guitar and drums are so perfect!!! They do an amazing Christmas album!!!

Love this song! Also on soundtrack for Pulp Fiction.

I used to work with a guy who was obsessed with blue grass. Based on his behaviour, I suspect it's a cult.

Diggin' this music, though {#Jump}
Can't hear this without thinking about the ending of Pulp Fiction.
Ah, that was soooooooo pleasant and enjoyable! Thank you, Bill, for some music from my (our?) younger years! {#Clap}

Watch the video to this track with the sound turned down. Trust me, I'm a Poacher.
Love the sax!

all of these "surfer" tunes sound the same. . .

Generally, most music genres are largely defined by similar sound, subject matter, and structure.  It may sound even more alike if one only grudgingly listens.  The same can be said of blues, R&B, gospel, big band, klezmer, funk, bebop, etc... They can all sound alike from a figurative distance.

I commend to you Bruce Brown's "The Endless Summer," a lyrical and often very funny tribute to surfer dudes everywhere. If you like the flick, you'll get surf music.

Around '66, when I was 6 years old I had an uncle that got into blue grass and swore off rock & roll. He gave me a stack of 45s which had some Beatles and some Elvis and several surf instrumentals.

Love surf!

I would have thought with a name like 'Stingray' you'd be all over surf music. I love it, from the old stuff to the out-there stuff like Man or Astro-Man?

I caught a bit of this the other night on cable. It sounds like Brad, but www.imdb.com has it Brett in the cast list.
Could Samuel L. Jackson have messed up his line, saying Brad, and they left it in?

Oh my Dog...some sick puppy actually made toys for this scene!

Hiya,

Maybe you are crossing it up with "Rocky Horror"?

I really thought this was The Shadows on account of the bell guitar, though when the sax hit I knew it was someone else. Nice stuff, though the film sucked the big one, IMO, despite the excellent soundtrack.

My name is Hugo Montoya.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Saw Dick Dale a few months after the movie came out. Bunch of folks were yelling 'play Pulp Fiction'. Philistines. He recorded 'Misirlou' in the sixties! I think it's based on a folk song from his ancestral Armenia. Could be wrong though. His version of 'Hava Nigila' (sp?) is really cool too, although I can't hear it without thinking of a Jewish mother hoisted up on a chair at a wedding. And bashing her head on the light fixture. Happens EVERY time! More SURF indeed! c.
