Cat Stevens — Lady D'Arbanville (Live)
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why do you sleep so still?
I'll wake you tomorrow
And you will be my fill
Yes you will be my fill
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why does it grieve me so?
But your heart seems so silent
Why do you breathe so low?
Why do you breathe so low?
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why do you sleep so still?
I'll wake you tomorrow
And you will be my fill
Yes you will be my fill
My Lady D'Arbanville
You look so cold tonight
Your lips feel like winter
Your skin has turned to white
Your skin has turned to white
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why do you sleep so still?
I'll wake you tomorrow
And you will be my fill
Yes you will be my fill
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why do you greet me so?
But your heart seems so silent
Why do you breathe so low?
Why do you breathe so low?
I loved you my Lady
Though in your grave you lie
I'll always be with you
This rose will never die
This rose will never die
I loved you my Lady
Though in your grave you lie
I'll always be with you
This rose will never die
This rose will never die
Why do you sleep so still?
I'll wake you tomorrow
And you will be my fill
Yes you will be my fill
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why does it grieve me so?
But your heart seems so silent
Why do you breathe so low?
Why do you breathe so low?
My Lady D'Arbanville
Why do you sleep so still?

And you will be my fill
Yes you will be my fill
My Lady D'Arbanville
You look so cold tonight
Your lips feel like winter
Your skin has turned to white
Your skin has turned to white

Is this song actually about... anything? It's like he had heard of the book "Tess of the D'Urbervilles", didn't actually read it, and got the title wrong. He then just started a meaningless riff, a la Dana Carvey's "Broccoli Song" on SNL.
He dated Patty D'Arbanville for a while, and wrote this about her. Fictionalized, of course--she isn't really dead, or at least wasn't when he wrote the song.

I love the Cat, this live version is not nearly as good as the studio version. It makes me sad that he no longer feels the same way about his music. He had such a good message of love and understanding. I am not up to speed on his "terrorist" activities, but regardless his older stuff is fantastic and has been a large part of my music library sine I was in the 4th grade. I want to live in a wigwam too baby! oh yeah and Harold and Maude is my favorite movie and my all time favorite movie soundtrack.
Oh he's been very busy with his terrorist activites. Just read the following and you'll understand why he's on the no-fly list:
"Three distinguished figures are being awarded with Honorary Doctorates at the University of Gloucestershire's graduation ceremony at the Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse this November.
They are Sir Donald Curry, Yusuf Islam, and Judy Ling Wong.
... Yusuf Islam was formerly known as the singer Cat Stevens and was one of the biggest selling artists of the '60s and '70s, writing such classics as Matthew & Son, Wild World and Father and Son. In 1977 he converted to Islam and has since dedicated much of his time to education and humanitarian relief. His charity, Small Kindness, provides aid as well as social and educational programmes to orphans and families throughout the world, including Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Indonesia.
In 2003, Yusuf Islam was awarded the World Social Award for his humanitarian work. More recently, in November 2004 he was honoured with the Man for Peace award by a committee of Nobel peace laureates.
Mr Islam's pioneering work in the field of education resulted in a landmark decision by the British government to certify and support Islamic education throughout the UK. He has founded three schools in the London borough of Brent, which perform consistently well in the borough's league tables. He is closely linked with the Association of Muslim Schools and he is a supporter of initiatives between the Association and the University of Gloucestershire to provide Initial Teacher Training in Muslim schools."
who cares what his political views are? He's wimpy, and he sucks LOL

Since you chose to quote me, just be sure you realize I was mocking the hypersensitivity to "terror" (or was it a justification for war, I forget...) and rediculousness of turning his flight away, not condoning it in some bigoted, self-righteous façade. The rolling eyes should have given it away, but just in case.
Sorry dude,
It didn't across that way at all.

I am tired of this mindless swallowing of news-media and government propaganda that has infused the pseudo-political pop-culture of this country- and people are being hurt by it, and it sucks. If you want to be a bigot, fine, just don't blame it on someone else's perceived bigotry and pass it off as some kind of snide self-righteous truth.

Well said but its to be expected from a nation that has been conditioned to reduce human expression down to a Jerry Springer tabloid sensationalist 'thinking' process.

Nothing but good works? Like his affirmation of the death sentence for Salman Rushdie?
Anyway, I like some of is pre-1970 music but don't care for anything since then.
Hopefully some clarification on that particular issue.

Was Cat a supporter of Hamas?
Cat Stevens was guest of Canadian Hamas front
Former Cat Stevens Denies Hamas Aid
I'm still undecided.
What I do know is his music sucks.

The charities must not have been on Bush's own special "faith based" approved charities.
A good example of the perception game, and how anything foreign/Islam must be bad. Cat/Yusaf has done nothing but good works in his life, dedicated himself to love and peace and people, yet is villified here in the States. hah - only in America! Or should I say, only in George W's America!
Back to the music - this is GREAT STUFF! So there!

I suspect not all listeners like this song the way I do.
I also think I would prefer the album version over this life version that not adds any value imho
word
(up to the "8" rating ;) )
"That's very nice, Mr. Islam. Now, please turn your Peace Train around and go back to wherever you're from."
Cool tune from the Cat.

Depends, are you talking to the FBI? You may not want to say on airline in flight or at the security check point at the airport.
