Yes. And the first line there should settle the question of whether this is a "bolero" or not -- a classic bolero is in 3/4 time. Zumurud is in 4/4.
The other question, whether this is some interpretation of Ravel's Bolero, is not as easily disputed, even though it's clearly not. It may make you feel the same way when you listen to it, but it's just not Ravel's piece at all.
I don't care! I like this tune. EXCELLENT TUNE!! I just listen to it. I do not want to get over-analytical about it! Thanx RP!

Oh, nicely done set ! Delerium followed by Mich Gerber, only Jaël is missing to have complete collaboration circle,
Same set 3 years later - and that is NOT a complaint. If its not broke why fix it?
Totally Cool!
Bolero by Ravel is not what "a bolero" is either. Itself is the creative result of a man suffering from temporal lobe dementia, a specific type of dementia that makes its sufferers obsessed with repetitive patterns. We are all the beneficiaries of someone else's madness.

It is great posts like this which remind me that I really don't know shit...
Strangely, this made me smile. I was concealed on the shore of one of those narrow bends that afternoon as the boat chugged by. Tibi was at the helm surrounded by the three strangers as they all quickly exchanged clothing. That was the day I resolved to find out more about Ab's uncle, Tibi.
I never did.
My nephew, he heard my stories about Ab and found my old maps when my sister cleaned out the cabin after the big burn. My nephew headed out to the Ucayali, promising he'd stay in touch.
He did.
He never did. That was the last that was seen of the three strange travelers and Ab's uncle, Tibi.
I never did.
This may be the tune that plays in the heads of Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers as they assess opportunity downfield. Zen masters ignore chaos and focus on the task.

so hypnotic

Same here. Nice, though.

Exactly!
I'd love to see him live.
Given a choice I Would pick Rockaway because it's got sand dunes, nothing wrong with Coney Island though.
Allegro non troppo - Bolero (1977) by Cartoonzof2006
Sort of a film about evolution. Remember watching it late at night as a filler for "premium" cable channels... Cinemax I think
You drink beer from a glass? Fancy.
An' it's clean too!
I'm not sure why I find that comment funny - maybe it's the visualization.
those Brits have such quaint (and evocative) expressions, don't they? And the music? I think it's fantastic trance and dance
Gabriel isn't fit to smell the undies of this song

Played this on a lot of gnarly back roads, hikes, and solo bar escapades.
It plain does the job.
Played this sat in my office designing on the PC. Works here, too. Thanks RP

Nope. 'Course not. Your original comment was:
Perhaps I misunderstood your meaning. You capitalized "Bolero" and attributed "it" to Ravel in the same sentence, implying that Zumurud is something like a cover version of Ravel's Bolero, which it is not. I agree with you that it's a bolero (lower-case "b"), but it's not Ravel's... different melody, lacks the key change near the end, etc.

What I am trying to get accross is like a conductor of an orchestra he will interpret the peice which may be entirely different to another conductor who has interpreted the piece tottaly different, and yet both are reading from the same score sheet.
Interesting thread. I hear Ravel's "Bolero" but also (thanks to the glass of Sierra Nevada's Extra IPA Torpedo) "When They Begin the Beguine."

bump. Also feels warm in the frozen NE.
