I hope you're sitting comfortably
I saved you the best seat in the house
Right up in the front row
The stars have been torn down
The moon is locked away
And the land is banked in frozen snow
You are a forte of nature, dear
Your breath curls from your lips
As the trees bend down their branches
And touch you with their fingertips
They're bringing out the dead now
It's easy just to look away
They are bringing out the dead now
It's been a strange, strange day
We could navigate out position by the stars
But they've taken out the stars
The stars have all gone
I'm glad you've come along
We could comprehend our
condition by the moon
But they've ordered the the moon not to shine
Still, I 'm glad you've come along
I was worried out of my mind
Cause, they keep bringing out the dead
It's easy just to look away
They're bringing out the dead, now
And it's been a long, strange day
You can move up a little closer
I will throw a blanket over
We can weigh all the tears in one hand
Against the laughter in the other
We could be hanging around here for centuries
Trying to make sense of this, my dear
While the planets try to get organised
Way above the stratosphere
But they keep bringing out the dead, now
It's easy if we just walk away
They keep bringing out the dead, now
It's been a long, long day
Look away
Look away
I saved you the best seat in the house
Right up in the front row
The stars have been torn down
The moon is locked away

Nick Cave ist the Dylan of the darkness to me.
So many outstanding albums.
So many outstanding albums.
See the performance of this song in the recent DVD and thinking again, for me is majestic and beautiful, sure no is the best of Caves and bad seeds ( I prefer songs of The firstborn is Dead or Tender Prey, ¿why Bill dont play this songs?, why?)but seguira siendo Nick cave con sus lyrics, voice and complex instrumentation

I thought the same thing; I wonder if Nick was watching Monty Python when he wrote this.

Meh....Ba...
Don't like RT and am liking Nick Cave less and less because of their separated-at-birth issues. Switched to the Drone Zone for a few minutes until this passes.

Decent
Nice, but not Richard Thompson, for mine.
not mr. cave's best work by a long shot, but i kind of like this song. 7.
again, cool stuff, but a bit too early in the AM for such deepness... gonna finish my tea and roll back over now.
Not my favorit track on this album, but as always...deep.
SHOULD HAVE FINISHED THE REST OF WHATEVER HE WAS SMOKING FIRST.
"I'm not dead yet!"
"Yer mostly dead!"

Did Richard Thompson spend too long listening to this?
Problem is: I still like both!
Richard Thompson was my first guess too when I first heard the song without looking at the playlist. But who copied from whom?
Very good, one of Nick Cave's best song ever.. khm of course that I know of. Still, this is awesome.

It seems like Nick Cave's music may be an acquired taste. I like some of his stuff, but find some of his singing to be a little too dramatic, in an almost schmaltzy kind of way. (Not that I have any talent of my own to contribute...or room to complain).

Hmm. Okay, I know we RP listeners don't all have to love everything Bill plays. (Just check for the lowest/highest ratings on any song and you'll see that we don't!) Just have to say though, I've given him a chance, but I just don't like Nick Cave's stuff. (Although this is probably the track I like the best out of what I've heard played.) Anyway, there -- I've said it! :)

Umm, Tom Waits doing a 70s detective movie theme song?

I can't rate this yet. It's a little creepy 'cause I kept thinking about tsunamis and whatnot.
some thoughts are maybe best left unsaid, sorry.

I agree! It seems like the departure of a certain Blixa Bargeld from the Bad Seeds has not been detrimental, but rather sparked a new creativity among the rest of the band. "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" is their best record in ages, in my humble opinion. :)
Guitar is reminiscent of a Doves song.... if only I could remember which one.

hallel......UUUU...jah.. I'm glad its over.
BRING OUTCHA DEAD, BRING OUTCHA DEAD!
I'm not dead yet!
You're not fooling anyone, you know!
I feel happy! I feel happy!
(Oh, sorry, I thought this was a Monty Python movie!)
When do we get to hear O'MALLEY'S BAR. :D
Different... not bad, just different.
Since Richard Thompson played with Fairport convention in the late 1960s if there was copying done, it was almost certainly Cave. He was 10 when Fairport's first album was released. I really don't like either of their voices; I guess that's a matter of taste.. Both are excellent songwriters. Thompson is one of the best guitarists alive.
