Well, I rang up Pantucci
Spoke to Lu-chi
I gave them all
They needed to know

And if affairs are proceeding
As we're expecting soon enough
The weak spots will show

I assume you understand that we have options on your time
And will ditch you in the harbour if we must

But if it all works out nicely
You'll get the bonus you deserve
From doctors we trust.

The Fat Lady of Limbourg
Looked at the samples that we sent
And furrowed her brow

You would never believe that
She'd tasted royalty and fame
If you saw her now

But her sense of taste is such that she'll distinguish with her tongue
The subtleties a spectrograph would miss

And then announce her decision
While demanding her reward
The jellyfish kiss

Now we checked out this duck quack
Who laid a big egg, oh so black
It shone just like gold

And then the kids from the city
Finding it pretty, took it home
And there it was sold

It was changing hands for weeks 'till someone left it by their fire
It melted to a puddle on the floor

For it was only a candle
A Roman scandal oh oh oh
Now it's a pool

That's what we're paid for
That's what we're paid for
That's what we're paid for here

That's what we're paid for
That's what we're paid for
That's what we're paid for here

Nice interpretation. More Eno please.
Very good performance of this song.
We would also like to listen to the originals from time to time, if only to remember the musical story. Thanks to RP to manage this.
Love the squirty thing coming out of the left channel.
Automatic 7 for anyone who covers The Fat Lady of Limbourg.
Like the track overall - but, oh, those vocals.... Delicious!!!

I'm shivereeing all over
All the Geckos are applauding! Shoootz!

All four are brilliant classics
I imagine this is what it would sound like if Elbow had a female singer
Was it the Fat Lady of Belgian Limburg, German Limburg or Dutch Limburg?
Would never have heard this without RP...

Love that laid back groove. Must check out the album

Here Come the Warm Jets (1974),

Another Green World (1975),
Before and After Science (1977)

He came to town many years ago and gave a talk. People were asking questions of him and I said, "Looking back, what do you think of your first four albums?"

"I think they were very strange."

it is not a bad effort. I would love to hear more Eno. But hey Bill plays what he wants. I like Future islands as does Bill but hey apparently it's not too popular with the "classic rock" crowd either. There is a fantastic amount of new music out there and I would love to hear more of that as opposed to more Al Stewart or Steely Dan but Bill gets to play what he wants. The options are obvious.

You're right. Bill plays want he wants. That's okay by me.
'Shivaree' conjours up a fracas with the weapon of choice in certain urban areas...

They need to get out more.

Holy Elbow, Batman! They definitely borrowed this song to create Fly Boy Blue, played earlier today.
Why not play the the Eno version once and a while?
Brian Eno is a master!!!
Brilliant
You don't hear a tack piano every day.

Yeah, thought it was Chrissy Amphlett!
Apparently it's not over until she sings.
I could actually hear Elvis Costello singing this.  Lyrically similar to an EC tune.

Is the singer farting on this song?

What's that strange, erratic sound?
I can't decide whether I like this or the original better.

Thankfully, I don't have to!

This version is quite good, though I prefer the original.

I initially thought this was DiVinyls.
Surprised there are not more Eno covers out there - or maybe there are and I'm not aware - given how revered he is by the indie rock community.
Makes me want to hear some Eno about now!
comments are so eclectic too lol {#Stop}

I would prefer to hear an Eno original, but this is pretty cool.

This really surprised me to hear. Has RP ever played any original ENO? I can't remember. If so, which?

I'm a big Eno fan and appreciate hearing covers even if they often don't live up to the original. "Fat Lady" was off of "Taking Tiger Mountain" and I know "Blank Frank" if very popular, but I'd put my vote in for "Sky Saw" - the opening track for "Another Green World". The fretless bass of Percy Jones and viola of John Cale make this a very interesting blend of psychedelia and jazz.

In any case, more Eno please!
White Stripes "Cold, Cold Night" and now this. I think I get it:

"Songs We'd Like to Hear Sung By Somebody Else"
This is the most boring No Doubt song I have ever heard.
Ambrosia's an acquired taste.  For me she's too cool for words...
God, what an awful voice. Put this out of my misery- Grade 1, the aptly named "Sucko-Barfo." Please play some actual music!
Wonderful! The original is great, of course, but it's great to hear it updated.
I never heard this covered before, I have always loved Eno's version (on Another Green World?).  This is quirky and good.
Cool cover of one of my favorite Eno tunes.

Exactly what I thought - I was wondering - is this new Kristen Hersh?!
Would love to hear some Eno now.

I've never heard a cover of an Eno song before. This is delightful.

Definitely not Shivaree's best...something's rotten in Denmark.

My, never heard of Shivaree but if this is not her best, gotta hear more....
I thought this was the Divinyls!
Secksee!
It's a nice take on the original, but the original was hands-down better.  We don't hear enough Eno on RP.
Reminds Me A Little Of Kristen HeRsch

Made me look. That's worth something. 7
This is pretty cool.
She's okay.  I mainly like it because I loved the Eno version.  Gonna go dig out that album now.

This is not a bad version - pretty cool actually.  I vastly prefer the original, but I doubt that will ever be heard here.

I'll add to the chorus requesting the original. This cover does the song no favors, and considering the influence Brian Eno had on contemporary music and the lack of airplay he received, it's kind of a shame to see it perpetuated here on RP. Now if Bill would play Blank Frank, that would be something!

agreed, agreed!! how could you not love ENO.

Always loved this little ditty, as did my friends pantucci & lucia.  A very nice cover indeed.

I don't know the original, but there is version in Velvet Goldmine that is really powerful. In general some Velvet Goldmine soundtrack would go down real nice...
Amen to that. One of the greatest soundtracks to a fantastic movie. Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ewan McGregor making out!!! what's not to love there????
You don't hear many covers of Brian Eno songs. I have mixed feelings about this one. Part of the enjoyment of Eno is the layering of sound images, and I don't really get that out of this. It emphasizes the lyrics too much, which are basically random words that sound good together.

Tellement fromage. Trop de fromage. Definitely not Shivaree's best...something's rotten in Denmark.
Hate the breathy, little girl vocals.

If the fat lady of Limbourg had a child , would it be a Baby Swiss? Does that make the father a real Meunster? (cheesy jokes are the worst, aren't they?)
Eno would be highly appreciated. This version is not.

You are totally wrong, my friend. The singing is totally souless...same as the music...It is just nice to hear this song again, and the girl is really hot, but does not make it up for the destruction

Ambrosia makes everything better.
I think it's irrelevant to cover a song when your cover sounds too close to the original. This is close, but they might as well have used the sax lines from the original (which make the song in my opinion).
I don't know; the original definitely wasn't Eno's best, and I'd say I even like this better.
Not even close to Brian Eno's original. Let's hear that one. Whaddya say?
Isn't this a cover of an Eno song?
this is just plain horrible.
