How many lives are living strange
Where were you when we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you when we were getting high?
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky
Cos people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you when we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide

Must be nice to sit so far above the hoi polloi that you can see for miles.
Quite a climb but worth it...
Faster than a cannon ball
That don't make a lick of sense!
awesome isn't it
Definitely an 8, but gave it a 10 just to piss off the haters.
ME Too !!!
Faster than a cannon ball
That don't make a lick of sense!
Derivative drivel by whining whingers.
Nice alliteration.
I'm the right age (old millennial) that this puts me right back in high school, and therefore get warm fuzzies remembering this song. I'm still not sure if this is a 'good' track but it does hit me in the nostalgia centers...
Same.
Oasis were never my favourite, but I did have this album, and this song is just fine.
criminally overrated.
Nope, just rated. The rating is on your left. Can't see any crime. What you've done there is, you've just repeated some words people always say.
Whoops, actually gave it a 2. that feels better!
Same. Don't know why but never cared for this band's music.

These guys are pricks, but they did have a few great songs.
Agreed. But criminally overrated.
You seem very into schadenfruede. Your posting name checks out, that's for sure. The h8 is strong.
How many albums do you have out?
MTV was hardly a force in 1995. It had long since become a reality show network. Your reference is terribly dated. Like your opinion.
You also seem blithely unaware that they were playing off of John Lennon comparing the Beatles to Jesus when they made that quote. A controversy from an earlier rock era that helped the Beatles grow their fan base in the same way that it helped Oasis at the time. Duh.
The Kinks famously feuded to the point of fisticuffs; the Stones came damn close on a few occasions (Charlie slugged Mick once); the Fogertys hated each other so much they broke up the band. Disagreements in rock bands are part of the process. Chuckles all around.
Also, they may be unpleasant characters to you and others (judging from this board) but, they are talented musicians whose careers are now in their 3rd decade. Both have recent albums out with their current bands. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album from last year was one of the best rock albums of the year.
You might try listening to it.

What is a "Champagne Supernova" other than a meaningless rock title/lyric? Gave it a 3.
Listen closely. It's a Champagne Supernover.

Good song, but extremely overplayed.
I agree!
that's what FM radio's for \.

Splendidly put.

Terribly over-rated song and band!
Powerful and sweet tune! This should not be a personality contest.
It only is for those without.

Your comment about MTV being irrelevant to music by 1995 was spot on.
But best was your use of the term "schadenfruede" Ha Ha! I'm sure most read right over that with nary a clue as to what it means.
The brothers, not so much.
Not to mention: what the hell is a champagne supernova?
Lyrics: 2
Songcraft: 8
lands at a 6 for me
The brothers, not so much.
+1 for the epic slideshow pics of stars and such..so I'll leave it at a 5
Long Live RP and hopefully nice responses to this negative post.
I also have to admit Noel Gallagher came up with on of the funniest quotes I've ever heard when he described his brother thus..." he's a very angry man, he's like a man with a fork in a world of soup".

great level headed comment.they have a few good tracks and have brought pleasure to millions which is a damn site more than the cranky shits on here have ever done.
Not necessarily in reference to this song but I love Bart's quote!
However, then why do some of the rockers-from-past, who were documented pedophiles of the 'groupies of the times,' getting a free pass on how their songs might be rated? Bowie, Page, and _______ (there's plenty, fill it in).
It already has!
I'm not at all convinced John Lennon's statement expanded their fan base. That's an unsubstantiated opinion. John appeared to sincerely regret it. It made their lives hell for a while. It was, I believe, a poorly thought out off-the-cuff remark. They sincerely seemed to regret the extent of their fame, and were not trying to gain more. It was even more stupid for these guys to compare themselves to John, which you seem to believe was calculated. There is plenty of evidence to indicate they fall way short.
Lennon didn't do anything without thinking it out. It may have been poorly thought out, but not off-the-cuff. The Beatles at the time were searching for ways to dirty up their squeaky clean image. This certainly worked even if it snowballed out of proportion to their intent.
Lennon certainly did seem to have a strong opinion on the subject. One that would lead me to believe that he thought a lot about it, given the full context of the quote:
"Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I'll be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first – rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."
This original comment was not considered controversial by the English press at the time. It was only when the comments made it to crazy christian America that they blew up into an overreaction that I'm sure surprised Lenon in it's intensity. That said, losing the fandom of folks that would throw your records into a bonfire seems like a small loss.
They once said they were bigger than the Beatles but that was really tongue-in-cheek IMO.
Ryan Adams did pretty good with it too.
Mike Flowers' nailed the cover version; not often a cover is better than the original

I'll tell you how--we were all hoping for another Beatles by then, whether Oasis or Weezer or Radiohead, we didn't care who. It didn't really pan out unfortunately.
I think they admitted the second album included songs that weren't good enough for the first, and the third had songs that weren't good enough for either of the first two - so the downhill bit kind of makes sense. And it took Liam working with other songwriters to have the success he's enjoyed in the last couple of years.
That said, I did love these first two albums. Soundtrack of a lot of people's lives in the mid-90s.
Years active 1991–2009 2022-
And even this was overrated in my opinion.
Yea, sums it up for me.
I remember having a chuckle whilst reading a quote from one of the brothers foreseeing their future legacy surpassing that of the The Beatles.
Had further chuckles reading about the brothers' frequent drunken disagreements devolving into fisticuffs.

John Lennon was famously a prick but you so rarely hear people bringing it up. Probably because it is irrelevant to the music.
I do believe the comments about this song (band) are the most contentious of any I've found on your wonderful station. And rightly so.
C
It's funny you say that. I hated this band in the 90's. Now i think they were pretty damn good. Who knows.
Many more than a few !!
Thanks for giving me the Trump descriptor I've been searching high and low for!
Obviously and admittedly by them they were heavily influenced by them. But any time a band is called "The next Beatles"...is a kiss of death.
There will never be "The next Beatles".
That is about all this song is really good for. It hasn't stood up well to the test of time, IMO. Argh....
Funny, I was thinking along similar lines - grade school kids writing poetry. So then now we know; 5th graders + poetry = stoned 10th graders! Still, I'll rate a 5 for the attempt at expressing....I don't know exactly what.
-whiny snot nosed punkish poseurs.
-Toffee nosed wankers.
-the suckarama music selector must have kicked it.
-Cacophonous wretchedness.
-its a waste of electrons.
-utterly annoying.
-like a dental drill.... ucch...
-This tune is the best definition of ... SUCKO-BARFO.
-that whiney little putz is singing thru his nose again.
Don’t think so! Loutish wankers perhaps but certainly not toffee nosed. I dismissed Oasis at the time because of their antics but with age I’ve now come to realise that much of their music was really rather good.
Wankers - yes. Toffee nosed - well the usual meaning of that is snobbish, upperclass etc which they are clearly not. A variation of the meaning is to be 'disdainful' of those perceived as belonging to a lower class or lower talent than themselves - then maybe yes to that too.
Perhaps, but they put out some very good music.
I think the "some Brits" you refer to are probably mainly English. It's a habit that gets up the noses of us Scots as well (at least a lot of the ones where I grew up). But you get over it, same way as I'm sure most of the English get over the way we speak.
Don't y'all just love RP - where somebody from the land that gave us George W Bush (and what he did for the English language) has a go (justifiably) at the way the English speak English.

Yes, maybe once. Morning glory.

wonder if you're still this stupid after the last 4 years....
