The music is simple, the poetry ordinary. Taken in the context of the Irish Troubles and the reason for the song, it is very powerful and evokes a feeling of despair.
Not my cup of tea-ta, chiquita.
WTF!!

There are a great many jobs worse than that of a studio musician, unless one enjoys waiting tables or being an "admin assistant". Interesting song for Sinead to cover - quite likable.
I had two thoughts:
1- I had to look up the song info because I figured their must be a really interesting reason this song exists.
2- Makes me glad I'm not a studio musician.

wonderful!
Despite the reason why this song was sung by Sinead O'Connor, the song is imo an unnessesary one to be played without its context...

An excellent cover! I'm not a big ABBA fan, but Sinead has made me notice a song I've always dismissed. Very nice!

No, the original was bad, or rather cheesier than the Wensleydale Creamery. This is...funny, and very unexpected. It rather makes me think of the wonderful Eurovision song entry from Craggy Island, My Lovely Horse.

Come on, Sinead. Youre better than that.
Testing the "PSD - Play Something Different" button again?
There are quite better Abba covers than this.
For example, Steven Wilson ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UZjXqbNWvQ

the world waited for a cover of this song ...
Covering Abba is always a bad idea.
Oh no, this is bad....
this is just plain wrong. we'll indulge you this once Bill, but that's it!!
Interesting cover.
Like so many (well, so many around my age, and perhaps there was a geographical bias), I grew up with lots of Abba around me, but I'm not much of a fan. I'm not (yet) much of a Sinead fan either, but this cover is helping to convert me (to Sinead).

Awesome cover. I feel sorry for anyone who can't hear what Sinead's voice adds to this song.
i do NOT like the original song, although i must admit there ARE good songs from ABBA, despite the overwhelming hype.
but sinead really treated chiquitita the right way, giving the song a whole new meaning. really good!

Can't see what is the added value of this cover comparing to the original. No new interpretation, no new sound, it's just Sinead O'connor singing Chiquitita.

Rashad, I love this comment... it makes me like the song even more!
just seeing that incredibly funny distribution forces me to give this a 10.
but ms o'connor singing abba at 2am on a temperate australian night is a good time to bring my bandwidth of pleasure theory out of the cupboard.
in short, it's this:
the more you enjoy, the more you enjoy.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!! It's still ABBA, no matter who sings it. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!
She does a great job with this song, and I am not a huge fan of the original. (But I did enjoy Mamma Mia!)
Second, does anyone else notice the resemblance to "Seven Spanish Lovers"? That's the song I thought was playing when this began. Never noticed that before.

Not bad at all.
Bumping this up to nine. Thanks to whoever uploaded this.
What the..?
I like Sinead and I'm perfectly comfortable with Abba and I share Bill's infatuation with odd covers.
However, this one is causing such a neural dissonace that at first listening I can only give it a 4.
Maybe later I will get over the heebie jeebies and rank it higher.

Touching version here by Sinéad from the 1998album 'Across The Bridge Of Hope'

The second poem, from which the album borrows its name, was penned by twelve-year-old Sean McLaughlin shortly before he was killed by in the bombing. It reads: "Orange and green it does not matter/United now, don't shatter our dream/Scatter the seeds of peace over our land/So we can travel, hand in hand/Across the bridge of hope."

Lyrics
Chiquitita, tell me whats wrong
Youre enchained by your own sorrow
In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow
How I hate to see you like this
There is no way you can deny it
I can see that youre oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
Im a shoulder you can cry on
Your best friend, Im the one you must rely on
You were always sure of yourself
Now I see youve broken a feather
I hope we can patch it up together
Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars theyre leaving
Youll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, chiquitita
So the walls came tumbling down
And your loves a blown out candle
All is gone and it seems too hard to handle
Chiquitita, tell me the truth
There is no way you can deny it
I see that youre oh so sad, so quiet
Chiquitita, you and I know
How the heartaches come and they go and the scars theyre leaving
Youll be dancing once again and the pain will end
You will have no time for grieving
Chiquitita, you and I cry
But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you
Let me hear you sing once more like you did before
Sing a new song, chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, chiquitita
Try once more like you did before
Sing a new song, chiquitita
Good cover. At the risk of being flamed, I like the ABBA version, too.
Really? Bill? You've got to be kidding! Abba is really over-done and tired. Sinead has a great voice but doesn't save this.
Wish I could score lower than Sucko Barfo.

Beautiful. Alwahys loved Sinead's voice.
Ummm. Interesting.
